@drmoonrat "You're sure you worked with Jerry?" Dean had been Jerry's straight man in the Fifties - and Bob was thrown by Dean's inability to stop laughing. Dean countered with, "Yes - but our stuff wasn't this funny." Jew joke? Don't see it.

@eocarcharia Like several bits he did with Dino, it was one of his stage monologues, where the audience has to IMAGINE the other half of the conversation - usually from the other end of an imaginary telephone - but Dino PLAYED the other half.

To understand, you need to hear some of Bob Newhart's monologues. There are several on YouTube - including some I've put up myself.

My favourite is the bomb disposal one - but more popular are The Driving Instructor and Intro Of Tobacco Into Civilization.

I love Bob Newhart comedy. I got the Bob Newhart Show on DVD a few Christmases ago. My next endeavor is to get these Variety shows (I've been wanting to purchase these for some time). I either need to save up some money or throw a few hints for my upcoming birthday :)
