Why is it all the episodes that have a focus on Fry have amazing emotional depth? Because Fry is a character that is a blessing to the world of animation.
cause fry does have a tragic story to the character. He was taken before his time. On purpose by leela's pet. 1000 years to the future where all that he knew is gone and he'll never see them again and being a stranger in a whole new world. :(
Careing for the people who past away ( friend, family who we will never forget), this episode does it, I miss you grampa and i will never foget the lessons you learnd me ;'(
Futurama is still good to this day. I know it has some episodes that were rather mediocre, but you've got to admit that they've still got the greatest writers on the show.
No, most of the writers from drawn together now work on the comedy central verson of futurama, only a handfull of the people who originally worked on it are still there, because the other people work with fox.
@Wurmo Well, aren't you the modern day Mary Whitehouse. I don't really care for the rating or if I got owned. In the UK all Futurama seasons are rated 12, even the oh so adult newer series. The fact is, Futurama has always had adult themes, regardless of the rating, so your fragile mind is just going to have to get used to it
It's ironic how Fry never suspected to be his nephew, yet this scene made me relize to keep on loving my younger brother forever, which there been times we fight. But in the end, we make up for it. So far I get goosebumps for watching this, and the feeling of sadness.
This and Seymour dying were the two most tear-worthy moments on this show. This one really got me not just because Fry was emotional about Phillip J. Fry II's true identity but Leela's quote did, too.
I remember i was watching this episode in the middle of the night, then this part came up and i started thinking about my siblings.I shed a few manly tears
This is something you would never expect from a comedy, crying because it's sad, not funny. Bravo, Futurama, you built up my opinion about this character just enough for me to be saddened by the truth of it all. That is excellent story writing.
@Rougamaru I meant that some people are a bit more tenacious than others. I've got big plans of my own. We just go about our lives and damn the odds when they start to annoy us.
@Rougamaru Actually one of my favorite parts of Bender's Big Score was that it shows him living his life and eating dinner with his mom and dad and continuing with his brother. Besides i think fry sure got a little sad sometimes but for the most part was too stupid to really care. he sorta just went on living his life happily in the future plus his endless pursuit for leela occupied his time.
@Rougamaru The ending of the latest movie should have been the ending. The new series sucks ass so hard. Matt Greonin had to pull another Simpsons again.
@SCOTTpilgrimist12 Many of the new episodes are pretty damn great. The one with Bender and Hermes is practically Luck of the Fryrish / Jurassic Bark levels of good. Pretty much all of the episodes have gotten amazing reviews too whereas the newer Simpsons ones get hacked down. So yeah, not really :P
Amazing. I think what makes this scene so emotional is that it takes what we know and expect from Yancy, being the always mean cousin, and adds a completely unexpected layer of complexity. It shows Fry that things are not black and white, that Yancy didn't hate him and he wasn't an enemy. Doing these kinds of things with the characters, first describing them as basic stereotypes and giving them some unexpected human traits, is something "Futurama" was able to carry out exceptionally well.
