Im a 44 yrs old enginner of IASI ROMANIA. Unfortunately these were GOOD times compared to Romania of God s year 2008. This country has been globally "privatized" by a gang of mobsters and almost 60% of the populace is now living in harsh poverty (compared to a percentage of cca 25% in 1991).
My wife is a doctor and we have a 6 yrs old boy. Three persons, we live very hard with cca 1000 euro a montha.

Do believe me that things have changed radically in 17 years! Altough there are still poor locations around the country, the conditions are much much better and there are actually many foreign investors that want to open bussinesses in romania.
Buna Duminyatza! (spelling??!) Thank you for your comment. I'm not involved with Romania - I shot this film in '91 and then went back to Iasi as a driver in Dec '94 with another group - thru the Carpathians in the depth of winter - I have never felt the cold since! Fascinating trips and incredibly generous people. all the best.
believe a romanian - the situation now in Romania is not that bad as it shows this video. After the collapse of the regyme that made Romania look perfect the interest was to show the actual misery. This is what the west saw. But NOW many of the problems are solved- poverty and unemployment are not a problem now (it's like in other countries). Romania has arisen from its own ash like a phoenix. Thanks for the support anyway.
the video was made in 91. i believe things have improved but poverty and unemployment 'not a problem' i cannot believe. As recently exposed by the BBC, why is your government still keen to hide the orphans form the eyes of the western media?
There were problems with international adoptions as I remember.countries offered help and support in theese 15 years for the poor children. We have now good orphanages. People finally understood that they have to do something to live , not to stay and wait for the government to resolve things. The ones that didn't understand that basic thing, are poor and unemployed-. But anyway - if our perverse media discovers Anything bad about the orphans it flares immediately
To hell with governement! Here's to self-help and people taking control! Good luck though with entry into the EU which surely can only be a good thing for Romania.
happy easter mate!
