  • She stimuli my pecfect deep deep emotions

  • You should be able to upload the whole first movement now, since Youtube no longer restricts uploads to 10 minute chunks.

  • I agree with many: This has to be one of the best interpretations ever of this concerto. Yet, you should upload the complete version: The introduction is fabulous and essential to the understanding of the pattern of thys lyric concerto, from the very first three muffled beats of the drum.

  • @wollin20 5 beats, sorry.

  • Thank you for this post but could you PLEASE post the introduction? There is already so little of Tennstedt's conducting on film that it would be a real shame if we couldn't hear and watch that as well! Thanks again!

  • I think I've just found a modern Beethoven Concerto recording to add to my collection, and a new violinist to follow.

  • I like Kyung Wha Chung very much, but what about Beethoven? Why don't you respect him and omitt the very betinning of the concert?

  • Yes, your point is valid indeed; but with the time limit of youtube, the first mov should have been cut into 3 parts and thus uploaded shoul I included the opening. It is not out of any disrespect to Beethoven, but for the sake of economy because, mind you, to transform, cut, edit and upload files on Youtube is by no means very easy business. If you'd seriously listen to this performance in its complete glory, there's CD from EMI of the same live performance. Happy New Year!

  • Awesome to listen to Chung's interpretation of this piece! Thanks for sharing. I can understand why she was famous.

  • I would imagine this would be one of the most difficult works to interprete.

  • Wow, I'm speechless- absolutely pure, beautiful tone, and perfect intonation. It's my favorite interpretation of this piece which I regard as the most difficult concerto by far in the repertoire.

She has done justice to this most noblest of music.

  • Seems like you're enjoying leaving disgusting comments. What is use of telling you more if you choose to be disgusting. Go away and don't come back to my page.

  • I'm outraged with your cheap racist comment, but I won't delete it because it shows what you are. And indeed, Ms Chung is respected not only as a great player but also as one of very first Asian musician who won her stauts more than 40 years ago over all sorts of discrimination for her being a woman and non-Caucasian.

  • Such comments are designed to fuel outrage and garner attention. I LOVE this woman. I love her for how she plays; I love her for the discrimination that she bore in behalf of ALL female violinists--she paved a hard road! She is the GRAND EMPRESS of the female violinists in my book and any educated person realizes this. Discrimination is a symptom of an extremely limited mind and heart. I thank you again for sharing these wonderful postings twofinedays.

  • Stop being such a racist. The fact that you call her a chink shows your ignorance. She is not Chinese, but a beautiful Korean., who plays superbly. The world would be a better place without a scumbug like you. Brava Kyung Wha Chung.

  • She has excellent technics. Really wonderful......

  • I think Ms Chung is even better than Mutter...in passion.

  • Mutter's interpretation is a bit much on the romantic side. Beethoven is from the Classical period. Playing a piece from the Classical period with a romantic-styled interpretation does not work.

Remember this is technically not difficult, however musically it is. To play such a piece with lack of the right musical sense literally ruins the piece.

Kyung Wha Chung definitely has the right musical interpretation, but still little off on maturity. Comes with age unfortunately.

  • How wonderful!

  • which year was this recorded? anybody knows?

  • It says in the info, filmed in 1989 with the Royal Concertgebouw conducted by Klaus Tennstedt.

  • so this is the song juliek play before piles of dying jews, after the death march to Gleiwitz. this is a lovely song.

  • This is NOT A SONG! This is Beethovens Violin Concerto from 1806!

  • Wonderful concerto and performer :D

  • It is such a shame that ahe has had to retire from performing in public. A finger injury I believe.

  • Muchas gracias !!! Realmente un ejemplo para seguir...Bravo!

  • 古典音樂的第一場震撼教育!

  • Je, I don´t know because once I found a video of Resident Evil of about 1 hour long...

  • Muy bueno , gracias !!!

  • this is it, my favorite beethoven, a perfect performance, didnt even hear 1 missed note

i was convinced id never see the video of this, i used to love the francescatti recording - then i heard this cd paired with the bruch and later i saw the lazer disk for sale on ebay but never the dvd

7 years later here I am watching it thanks to you cant really thank you enough

  • You're welcome. I myself only had VHS of this concert, and recently converted it into DVD format (that's why the video and audio aren't at their best). I just hope more people to learn about Ms.Chung and her great art.
