My dad sang this (decades ago) and mom played; the piano sounded exactly like this, just a little out of tune, but it is wonderful! Thank all of you for singing and posting.
I thoroughly enjoyed this choir's performance. Perhaps it did not have the polish of one of the well established major choirs, but the diction was clear and the members put their "All" into their music. Yes, they were Korean, I would surmise - so do not be super critical. Can some of you critics sing in the Korean language I think not.
I believe the singers practiced this song and arrangemnet for some time, but the voices had a very noticeable oriental accent, which made the whole piece sound amatuerish and plodding. More emphasis on diction is needed. It did get better towards the end. The piano playing was heavy and tinnish. If you're going to sing a song like this publically, lose the sheet music. People use podiums, microphones and sheet music like a crutch or security blanket.
the voices were superb. The arrangement was good... the song was rushed in places.. needed to be more accent on the crucial message.. i agree they needed a conductor to slow them at times.. but overall, a great piece of music. Want our choir to do it w/ an orchestra!
I think they are Canadian with Asian ethnicity. But they are great even without conductor. I like their expression, you cannot get anymore expression from their eyes that is max (like mine). I like the arrangement as well. I just hope that they name their group and do more postings. Thanks for posting John
Hey, for nine people singing not in their native language (I assume), they did a darned good job. Yes, the pianist was stodgy, but the voices were good. Sure, they could have used a conductor, but still an admirable job. Thanks!
Im only a senior in high school, and i had this for a solo, and they are singing this wrong. And alot of them are out of tune. I dont even know if the guys are singing forte at all
To LAETSPITS: No, they're not "singing this wrong". Neither are "alot of them out of tune". I'm fifty years old and have sung/played/taught this song for thirty years. This ensemble is excellent, with fine intonation, good blend, exemplary diction, and sensitive expression.
Some day you will learn to better recognize genuine musical excellence. It takes time to develop an appreciative "ear". Keep singing and keep learning! All the best.
I've heard countless interpretations of this song, most of them better than this recording, which sounds amateurish and mechanical to my ears. There's barely any musical expression from the "singers" or the accompanist.
Jimmy Sin! I have discovered you finally - by accident. Please contact me, Cathy your old teacher - just google my name. I'm now in Sydney and it would be wonderful to make contact again. Douglas is at UTS so if you can't find me - find him!
Have been meticulously looking for this song and run over your exceptional performance. My mother would love my promising pianist lil' brother to play this piece. Would it be too much to ask for it? If it is, please direct me on how to get the piece online... Who is the original artist?
Spirited, sincere, and delightfully competent rendition. It's easy to wallow in the potential sentimentality of this piece, but that's avoided here, and I must agree that the lead soprano is especially good, though I can't really fault anyone. Thank you for posting this clip.
God bless you my friend.I look forward to the day when I go home to be with the Lord. This hymn is awesome and accurate.I have had an out of the body experience when wounded in Vietnam and I know for certain the glories of the "New Jerusalem "
It will be my Mom's funeral Saturday, and this will be sung. Mom played piano, often to accompany her own beautiful voice. Dad (who died several years ago) would sometimes play cornet obligatto, with her. All the best to you, Tom.
Fantabulous, seounds like angelic singing, I am very, very impressed. My choir sings it but I wish we sound like this. Can we have more of this choir. What's their name?
I´m practicing this to play for a choir presentation .. I hope it will be a little like yours !!! It´s perfect !!! I agree when people say that you have a nice female voice !!

Oh My God... Perfect. It's the only time I could listen to and understand the lirics, even without reading it. Amazing. The best one I've heard.

I'm not 50. But I have friends who are.
I am a professional music type.
I've never heard of known of this lil sugarstick being in SATB form. Usually a solo for high voice.
Not a perfect ensemble, but they sing the music far more artistically than it could ever beg.
The piece is dated, grossly emotional, and full of far to much bravuity.
The Romantic Period gone awry.
