  • I was on a Constellation, No comm. jet aircraft was doing anything but flying over this rock in 1966. I will never forget the approach. A hard bank out of the mist . I swear the wing tip almost touched the water. End of the runway was a fall of rip-rap.

  • Another was an F-14 that went right into Barometer Mountain, straight ahead.

  • It was an F-15. Crashed November 8, 1988 inbound from King Salmon.

  • What is the missed approach to Kodiak? Hard right climb?

  • Yep. Two planes have crashed doing missed approaches into Kodiak but went left instead of right. They both impacted Old Woman's Mountain. The first was a PBY-5A Catalina in 1945 and the second was a P2V-7 Neptune in 1962. The wreckage of both can still be found.

  • Left turn climb back to VOR
