A true innovator, sensitive musician and composer. He was an inspiration to all young artists of all instruments. Do your homework and you will be pleasantly surprised. Happy listening, Renee

  • wonderful tone here in the lower registers...no Al Hirt?

  • mil respetos para todos ellos y q viva la musica y porsupuesto la trompeta

  • NO WAYNE BERGERON??

    NO PATRICK HESSION??

Maybe you haven't seen the video "Gonna Fly Now - Maynard Ferguson Tribute" the account name is MitchellColvinTpt

  • No me parece que Luis Armstrong haya sido un buen trompetista, y no me parece que sea necesario catalogar a los mejores. Viva la música.

  • Sorry, just want to know the name of 1st song in this video you have.

    Thanks!

  • @diogo1990fernandes Arturo Sandoval - Maria

  • falto o claudio roditi!

  • does anyone know who's playing from 5:00 - 6:00. Holy shit on stick, that was awful sounding. He might as well record himself juggling three trumpets if he's just trying to show off how obnoxiously he can play. THAT IS NOT MUSIC.

look at me, i'm an obnoxious trumpet player that doesn't have an ounce of soulful music flowing through me!!!!!!!!!!!!! well, you made your point. who is that anyways????

  • @tpstrat14 That's Maynard Ferguson with the Stan Kenton band .

  • @vanman243 Oh. Am I supposed to apologize now that I found out it was Maynard? He sucks. That isn't music.

  • @tpstrat14 That's what my Dad said also when I brought the album and played it. Back then it was called "progressive Jazz"

  • at 1:06 i stopped listening. There's music and then there's sounding like a fuckin retard who wants to show off. why doncha fuckin juggle three trumpets and call it music, ya putz

  • You left out the Candoli Brothers, Chuck Findley, Steve Hofstetter, Lee Morgan, Blue Mitchell (how could you do that? He is one of the greatest of all time?). Thad, Art Farmer. WTF. How high up your A is your head? Man, this is criminal to omit some of the greatest jazz players who ever lived. I guess it is in the ear of the listener. How about Jack Sheldon? He is one of the greatest ever in case you didn't know his playing, check out the Sandpiper film with Burton/Taylor soundtrack.

  • @ocnoreen the music that's playing is NOT good trumpet playing. so i'm pretty sure I can completely count out anyone you've mentioned on this list. PLaying screeching high notes so that you can show that you can play screeching high notes IS NOT FUCKING MUSIC. god damn that pisses me off.

  • @tpstrat14 I think that you did not read or listen to the ones I mentioned. Sorry to make you use such invective and God's name to express your displeasure at what I wrote. The trumpet players I mentioned are and were accomplished trumpet players. You obviously have a closed mind so we will leave it at that. No more cursing at people who have something to say. If you don't like the comments, at least be courteous about it. Block the comments.

  • cool

  • First song is "Maria" from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein

  • can anybody help me out as to what the first song in this compilation is called? I can't seem to figure it out on my own.

  • Harry James was the best who ever lived

  • Where is Daniel Clemente!?!?!

  • Excuse me, where is Bobby Allee?? You forgot him again?

I would like a match between him and Arturo, hahahahaha

  • WHERE ARE: HAKAN HARDENBERGER, FABRIZIO BOSSO, OLE EDVARD ANTONSEN, THOMAS STEVENS, PHILIP SMITH, VINCENT PENZARELLA, CHRIS MARTIN, BUD HERSETH, ECC....you forgot many trumpet players!!!!! BE MORE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

  • @trumpolta

and where are Lee Morgan, Dave Douglas, Jeremy Pelt, Fabien Mary, Nicolas Folmer, Nicholas Payton, Blue Mitchell, Thad Jones, Art Farmer....and so on

  • @spafful

and Shorty Baker, and Doc Cheatam...where the hell are they??

  • Comment removed

  • Haha where is Vlado Kumpan?:P

  • @Bartjee0201 Vlado Kumpan is a beast!!!

  • @mexijew

    You're right!!:P

I've been to a concert of him!

His sound always is great!! my goodness!

HE can do everything I think!:P.

and if he plays high.. his sound is still great!!

    He sure is a beast!!

  • what the hell is that 8 valve trumpet,

    it looks fake

  • @pacman80500 I'm pretty sure it is fake.

  • Why is it so evident that lead trumpeters must be in the top 5? .... Play that squirring with a normal size trumpet mouthpiece. I prefer much better the classical trained or the normal jazz trumpetists..

  • @isisbigband If Arturo was using his regular mouthpiece for the

playing in this video, then it would be considered a fairly normal

size piece. A Bach Mt. Vernon 3C with a size 24 throat.

  • 4.40 aplauso de pie

  • I would have liked to see Roy Hargrove and Lee Morgan in there.

  • Where was Chuck Mangione?? (kidding)

  • does anybody know the title of the 1st song played?

  • @swimmerguy33 maria played by arturo sandoval

  • listen to David Longoria with Ottmar Liebert A Castle In Spain!!!

  • I think this is a great list to start with! Many other greats gave been mentioned by others here too! Personal preferences would have put Al Hirt high on that list. Maurice Andre too! A couple living guys should be up there too. the truth is this list needs to continue and have many more talented greats included! But kudos to all on this list for sure!!! I learned much from many of them! David Longoria

  • The Timofei Dokshizer it`s not good ?

  • Comment removed

  • arturo who else

  • what about Claude Gordon???

  • Who ever tried to play Maynard Ferguson at the end did awful =/

  • who's playing in this video???

  • I love hat you included Bix!! he is one of the "too often forgot" trumpet players. Three in the Jazz spectrum are Buddy Bolden, Joe "King" Oliver and W. C. Handy.

Now in the Classical world I would argue two living trumpet players you should consider are Alison Balsom, and Tine Thing Helseth.

  • You forgot Chilo Moran

  • Love that picture of Maurice with the Picc!

  • Derek Watkins? :-(

  • Chuck Mangione

  • wheres al hirt???

  • louis was the greatest, Bix close 2nd, Muggsy Spainer 3rd Charlie Shavers 4th George Girald 5th, Red 6th, Bunny Berigan 7th, cootie williams 8th, Cat Anderson 9th Billy Butterfield 10th.

  • Carl Saunders?

  • Is it me or are my headphones not good enough to reproduce sounds this high? It got all crackley and poppy on me O.o

  • 0:21 angel martín xD

  • bud herseth?

  • @gemusic- Harry James was noted got the trombone not the trumpet.

  • amazing

  • R.I.P. Maynard Ferguson

  • i believe you have forgotten Thomas Gansch

  • What serious list forget Harry James? And what about Roy Eldridge? A l Hirt? That's a joke!

  • @LEDinardi I guess he should have said "some of the greatest trumpet players in the world"... I agree...Harry, Roy, Al (and others) should have been included, but it's still a very nice tribute.

  • Where is Addie Rosner?

  • Jon Hassell

  • chris botti?

  • I thought this was very accurate, except you forgot Harry James and Roy Eldridge! Escpecially Roy!

  • amazing trumpet players. could also include Wayne Bergeron, but thats just me

  • Glad to see Rafael Mendez & Maurice Andre mentioned...

  • @rogerstill71

agree with you. but if Eddie Calvert had been included, would have been perfectly

  • Song and artist please?

  • @theaws0m3guy maria from west side story - arturo sandaval

  • Arturo Sandoval has gained many awards all over the world. Very seldom you will find a complete musician like him. He can compose all type of music, not only he played the trumpet so well,of course a great ability for improvisation, but he played the piano and drums as well. Finding a guy like him with such a great personality and love for music is not that easy.

  • That's a very nice list of incredible trumpet players, however, you forgot Harry James and Al Hirt.

  • i myself am a trumpet player........im first chair in 8th grade but oh my gosh this is awesome!!!! but the senior trumpet player that just graduated is just as good as this..e i mean the sound...maybe he cant hit like the highest notes and make them sound pretty, but his sound is just as good as this and he does have most of the range...and awesome music...=))) luved this

  • NO LEE MORGAN?? WHATSAMATTAWICHYA?

Really, he played more beautiful music that many of those other guys ever have or ever will.

  • Best trumpet players, okay. But that's not the same thing as 'best creative jazz geniuses who played trumpet as their main instrument." that would exclude a number of the players shown here.

  • i agree completely with this list. i have to add All Hirt, Pete Candoli, and Don Ellis to the list

  • guy at 1:08 has the hitler-stache

  • @unholyftw No he doesnt. Hitler has a smaller one

  • Al Hirt ...

  • @modejazz IT'S A NEW ORLEANS THANG BUDDY

  • Very nice! But Al Hirt wasn't too shabby either.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH amazing

  • Im 22 and starting right now to play I just love the sound till now nobody told me that i can make it can yall motivate me :D

  • @behinddacurtain you can't make it. You started to late.

  • @Lchsmb2009 you are such a nice guy :D thank you very much haha

  • @behinddacurtain im joking. Rofl :D my teacher started trumpet when she was 19 and now she is a wonderful musician, its easier to teach children ow to learn but you will own someday.

  • @Lchsmb2009 thank you very much for the comment really very nice :) from you

  • Omg...awesome!!

  • Go to 3:00.

That's arturo sandoval playing maynard ferguson ^.

He completely trashes the entrance, plays with unclear tone and with an uneven tempo. Maynard Ferguson played the song way faster, with better tempo and cleaner notes...on ONE take. Arturo clearly isn't in Maynard's league.

  • Where's Lee Morgan, Woody Shaw, Hakan Hardenberger, Wayne Bergeron, Vince DiMartino and Roy Hargrove?

  • Are they ranked at all?

    And where is Håkan Hardenberger?

  • I miss Mr. All Hirt and Mr. Hary James!

  • mmmm Vince DiMartino!!

  • Mwah.. 't gaat..

  • wel geinig..

  • Leuk

  • I think Wayne Bergeron beats everyone there....

  • absolutely stupid ! music is not sport

  • Booker Little wasn't good enough to make the cut?

  • Wonderful video, but I miss Guy Touvron.

  • you forgot al hirt...

  • whats the name of the song

  • @IDanceInTheSky

1st song is - "Maria" - From the musical "West Side Story"

2nd 3rd etc song - ???? Don't know the names but sounds like James Morrison!

  • @army455439 2nd song is "maynard" check the video of maynard with Stan Kenton's band.

  • @army455439 the second song is called Maynard Ferguson. The one playing both of the songs is Arturo Sandoval

  • Sensational Trumpets-all But GREAT !

  • Check out Nicolas Folmer. He's pretty good

  • I can't believe Chris Botti is not included in this group. If you've heard, "When I Fall in Love," or "Italia" you might agree that he's one of the best.

  • Forgot Hakan Hardenberger?

    McFly!!

  • the second song is "maynard ferguson" by arturo sandoval

  • Please. What is the second song. First is by

Arturo Sandoval. The second I think is Maynard Fertuson but I'm not sure.

  • Mexican !! Rafael Mendez, THE BEST

  • Some comments...No Harry James? This is blasphemy.

Look at the pic of Chet Baker....this is really sad. That is what a lietime of drug use does to you.

Not one principal trumpet from a major symphony,no great lead man such as Conrad Gozzo or Buddy Childers....this is incomplete.

  • Bud Herseth?

Yeah, Harry James was a freak. There is some great footage from a movie with Harry in an army uniform. I don't remember the movie. Some great chops.

And Chet Baker was just so sad to see, although he stil had some great lyrical chops after prison.

What about alll those great session players like Jerry Hey?

  • lovely...

  • Sergei Nakariakov

  • rex richardson? chris martin? ryan anthony?

  • You're overlooking one of the very best, Ole Edvard Antonsen....Ronald Romm too.

  • adam rapa

  • So ya leave out Harry James and his "Flight of theBumble Bee" with "Valve fingering majic" and Al Hirt with his New Orleans style renditions and ya mention many we never heard of or heard playing.I thought your title on the album shoulda been" A Few Great and Many Good Trumpeters"

  • ronald rumm?

  • should add wayne bergeron, roy hargrove and probably adam rapa, who all are my top 3 fav. players.

  • your forgetting about Greg Wing!! hes definitely one of the best!

  • u forgot eric miyashiro hes really good 2 808 represent!

  • at 2:36 what the hell kind of instrament is that???????????? o.0

  • Who plays these pieces? They are GREAT!

  • Who else - both are by Maynard!

  • Chris Botti? You serious? He's a clever little devil with a great jazzy tone, but not "one of the best", and he'd happily tell you so. (I love his music, don't mistake).

Harry James for sure though...hard to omit that one.
