I always thought this song is a bit too bright with the AT.. I play my stereo copy of this with my mono Denon cart and it sounds magical. I have a theory that the AT would sound better loaded somewhere between 37 and 43 K. I'm going to pick up a phono stage with variable loading this year and experiment with it. I'll let you know if I come up with any mind blowing results.
Hi, great song.. I had the 45 posted and later had the video removed and a strike against my account... just saying. You have great posts and great sound too, just wanted to say thank you!
hey 45spindle !!! nice to hear from you !! Seems like you and I both love our colored vinyl . I have over 210,000 records in my collection . Sadly most of it is in storage since I moved not too long ago into a smaller place , and it's maddening as hell that I don't have immediate access to them but I have all kinds of colored vinyl, picture discs, and shaped records . Maybe one of these days when I get what I need , I'll start posting all my unusual records so everyone can enjoy them CHEERS !!
Just to fill in one BIG , BIG blank about this 12 inch single , I got two copies straight from A&M records and when I opened them up , they WERE ACTUALLY SCENTED !!! I could smell strawberries for almost six months before the scent vanished . And to confirm SLAYD5K 's remark ,, yes the flip side was MONO ! Just thought you'd like to know . CHEERS !!!
Yeah, when i bought the 45 when it first came out, the picture sleeve was strawberry scented. Just to enhance an already magnificent recording. Still...a Masterpiece!
@davidwalach The 12" was cut a half tone higher than the LP version. Probably to speed up the BPMs slightly for the dance floor. Nothing to do with it being 45RPM. The odd part was that I owned this single since the late 70s, and only just heard it on a compilation CD a few years ago and....it was lower in pitch! Never realized this one was sped up slightly until I heard the original version.
@rudy1964 - i prefer the original, untampered-with version, even if it is slower...now u can change the speed without changing the pitch...one of the conveniences of the digital medium. like magic, man!
@davidwalach It's funny you should say that. I noticed the slightly higher pitch and have a slight preference for it. I wish the pitch could be adjusted as well the digital medium.
I wasn't sure myself, but I guessed he may have commented on how it sounded (faster than the album version) rather than how fast it was spinning. If you spun this 12" at 33-1/3 RPM, it would sound more like a Barry White single. :D

@juggdj1 Someone else told me that the original 7" single version was also strawberry scented! I bought mine new, but it was a few years old and there was no scent to it by the time I opened it. There were red promo 7" 45RPM singles, but I don't know if the commercial 7" singles were pressed that way.

@davidwalach That's because this 12" plays at 45rpm.

@rudy1964 Since he said "speed", I thought David was asking about the rpm of the vinyl on the platter, not the actual pitch of the song.
