This may be an funny question but does these things bite if you're about "handle" them? I guess they're having some kind of jaws because they're able to bite off the flesh from corpses... I'm not trying to touch these "filthy" critters but I'm just interested. :)

I "handled" an bush cricket once and that bastard gave me actually pretty nice bite... Never thought that they're willing or even able to do that for human but they are... And I must confess that it wasn't a nice feeling... :D

as for bush crickets, they eat other bugs as well as leaves.

it hurts when bitten like by a praying mantis.

the truth is, i am such a rural person that i have no idea what kind of snakes live in tokyo.

post a vid of the snake next time.

Well, after checking pictures I think it might have been a shima-hebi (Elaphe quadrivirgata), not venomous!
