    thx 4 watchin!

  • 野外プールで良く見かけたが

  • 小学生の頃にワラジ虫のボスだと思ってました(笑)めちゃくちゃ恐かったです(笑)

  • This may be an funny question but does these things bite if you're about "handle" them? I guess they're having some kind of jaws because they're able to bite off the flesh from corpses... I'm not trying to touch these "filthy" critters but I'm just interested. :)

I "handled" an bush cricket once and that bastard gave me actually pretty nice bite... Never thought that they're willing or even able to do that for human but they are... And I must confess that it wasn't a nice feeling... :D

  • no, it is not funny but a good question.

but i dunno if they bite u.

i do not love to touch them! lol

as for bush crickets, they eat other bugs as well as leaves.

it hurts when bitten like by a praying mantis.

  • these are very common now in our campus, adults and larvae!

  • cool!

so, ur campus must be full of dead bodies. lol

    just kidding.

i have recently posted a vid clip featuring different species of carrion beetle.

they were mating beside the dead animal.

    check this out.

    watch?v=eCYCSnqe-yM

  • Hahaha.

My campus is in suzukakedai and everyday it's an orgy of sex and death!! But things seem to have quieted down recently. Btw, do you know how long they live?

  • Hey, today I saw a big snake near my house! Are there any poisonous snakes around Tokyo?

Sorry for the out of topic question, but maybe you might know... thanks

  • well, maybe the snake could be venomous.

    what was the colouration?

u had better ask ur japanese classmates (or colleagues) about that.

the truth is, i am such a rural person that i have no idea what kind of snakes live in tokyo.

post a vid of the snake next time.

or a slideshow movie would do, too.

if u can read japanese, visit websites on japanese snakes witten by an expert.

  • Well, after checking pictures I think it might have been a shima-hebi (Elaphe quadrivirgata), not venomous!

  • good for you!

  • no, i dunno their life-span.

how about breeding them to study that for yourself?

u have to give them stinky dead bodies. lol

  • what song is this?

  • Enjoy your lunch !

  • yeah, free lunch on the street!

speaking of the carrion beetle, females of some other group are known to take care of their babies for some time.

(guard their larvae and feed them on rotten meatballs.)

  • 良くは分からないけど 昆虫好きなのでありがとう。

  • オオヒラタシデムシですね。今頃は成虫になっていることでしょうね。

  • thank you!

  • Interesting body, it's the first time I see one of this species. I find it amusing how it's segmented and armored.

  • yeah, its cool armor reminded me of ancient trilobite.

it was my first encounter, too.

  • Awesome!!!

  • thanx. few people appreciate these precious scavengers.

the half-dried carrion stank terrible and i held my breath during the macro shots....
