Lol social engineering is funny, I just got a call today saying my computer was infected and had malware and viruses that are sending out information, I played stupid as was like "oh my, what do you suggest i do about that?" they tried to get me to give my bank info, lmao, i was like "You know, that would be a good idea, if you werent calling from a 000-000-0000 number, dipshit." and hung up lol.
Also against someone dedicated and talented as Kevin Mitnick, this "two channel" strategy might not be enough.
Mainly because he used to hack pbx systems in the company and hack on the internal voicemail of employees.
Then he would request the password or whatever information to be left in his supposedly voicemail because he is out.
Once the information is dropped, he would access the hacked voicemail, get the information he needed then delete the evidence. This is social engineering 2.0
Defending against a social engineer attack is nearly impossible. Mainly because one video could go through thousands of scenarios and would still not cover a scenario that will occur.
Social Engineering and presence go hand in hand. You have to appear to know what you are doing to convince your subject that you are not out of place. This speaker has no presence and an annoying shoulder twitch. I can not pay attention to what he is saying because I am watching him wiggle around in his shirt. He has no presence and I didn't hear half of what he had to say. You don't take investment advice from a bum do you?
Dr ? In what ?

The only way to defend it is to know every trick in the book or shoot the person before speaking to them.
