Is there is a way to keep the fur?

How long do you soak to loose the hair? What do you put in the water? Hardwood ash, softwood ash, potassium hydroxide, or sodium hydroxide? what ratio of ash/chemical to water?

its like three pounds of ash to every pound of water i think i am not sure but i believe thats what it is

Is your draw knife sharp or blunt? Is it the same one for the flesh and the hair?  Is the hair shaved off or plukced out by the draw knife?

I hope you can answer these questions for me.

salted? i am confused? when do you salt, and why?

he salts the hides to store them but I would suggest freezing them in a roll, they will be good forever in a freezer.

when you salt the hide it preserves it like cure in jerky is just salt pretty much

the salt pulls out all the moisture and the fat in the hide
