there is an alternate ending to the series. they didnt animate it but in the manga, after Light dies he becomes a Shinigami. he begins to suffer and go through the pain of every singal person he killed, during that time, he decides to find the shinigami king and get his own death note so he can continue to kill from the shinigami realm so he would live forever. if he kept killing, he would keep going through pain, during which time, he would keep killing.

What Light did was for the greater good. He wished to live in a world of peace. Although i disagree with his ideas of becoming the "God" of the world, I still support him and his actions twords peace. Yes, killing is bad but what other way is there? In the anime Naruto Shippuden, Naruto tried to change peoples hearts with words but not everyones heart can be changed JUST with words. Light couldnt think of a better way, the opportunity to change the world was right in front of him.

In the end, I was on Kira's side. He was an asshole to everyone who followed him or opposed him, but he had his ideals, that are somewhat close to mine, and probably close to some of you out there. The ending was sad, and Light had to face the consequences of his doing.

Anyways, the anime was brilliant! I liked every character in the series (Light and L were the best, imo) And as EnXh94 said that it changed him, it did the same with me. :)

Also, the Death Note does not forbid a human becoming a shinigami, it leaves this open. Considering this two points and Light having maybe the strongest Bond to a Death Note human ever had, him becoming a Shinigami isn't that unlikely.
