  • why does everyone dress in gray?

  • nice pompadour!

  • Ricky Nelson was both a bona fide teen idol and a legit rockabilly cat (he was a big Carl Perkins/Sun Records fan and collector.)

He was great, because he loved the music he did.

Slightly off topic, Dorsey Burnette did the demo record for "It's Late" on Imperial Records before Ricky decided to record it. Worth a listening to if any of you get a chance.

  • I bought the boxed set of The Nelsons. I like the old advertisements as well

  • @Alikah1 Pretty diverse crowd. Do you think the public would go for it?

  • @coolconejo It was a white neighborhood. If you show a Black neighborhood, you would not see any White people.

  • @1tchavey And yet if the same video was made today it would contain blacks, Latinos, Asians, at least two gay couples, one or two with Down Syndrome, and if the money was right, Chaz Bono!

  • Happy Days!!!

  • hi am 9 yars old and em, why are not any black people?

  • Ricky Nelson was so cute, not to mention, this song is great!

  • RICKYbilly !

  • so innocent compared to later years. Facing her dad for bringing her home late was big trouble then (although he usually forgave you later) Now too many parents couldn't care less.

  • This isn't fair. I grew up in the worst time period. I was born in 1990. Great music Ricky!

  • Great Music. Go to Butcharts Gardens Summer 2011 for Believe what you say by Rukus..

  • I love the way his brother and his parents supported his achievements. So glad I got to be part of this generation. So glad I wasn't too late!!!

  • I love this song!

Going to be revived any time soon when I learn to play this here guitar.

What a tragedy Ricky bought a dodgy DC3.

Rock on in heaven Ricky, surrounded by pretty girls.

  • was singing this to school this morning, knowing I would have no chance of getting there on time anymore :P

  • So dreamy :)

  • What a great old track - thanks for share appreciated

  • I sing this in karaoke bars.

  • love it thankyou x

  • You gotta be involved to know who the lead guitarist is on this song - any quesses?

  • @JohnGee1977 That'll be none other than Mr James Burton.....

  • @JohnGee1977 yep, the great James Burton, still out there doing it today.

  • @JohnGee1977 Hey! Thanks! You're the MAN! Is James Burton the same lead guitarist that played for Booker T. & The MG's?

Do you know a youtube that demonstrates his skills? THANKS for your knowledge - you must be an "old" guy (like me).

  • @JohnGee1977 Yep. James Burton played with everybody.

  • I never seen this version before! I'm use to the one with him singing this song up on the stairs and Ozzie eating a big piece of cake while he's watching him lol!

  • At 39-40 secs is: Judy Lewis was born and raised in Los Angeles, the love child of actors Loretta Young and Clark Gable. At the time of her birth, Gable was married, ...

  • At :40 secs is Actress Judy Lewis: Judy Lewis, Actress: General Hospital. Judy Lewis was born and raised in Los Angeles, the love child of actors Loretta Young and Clark Gable.

  • the song we had and still have the 45

  • i had this memerized for most my life

  • @missaloveselvis..he IS tired...he's obviously up past his bedtime and trying to let everybody know it's late and he'd better get on home, that he's been gone too long...but no one gets the hint, they just keep sitting there with those goofy smiles on their faces, without a clue...and then he's going to have to face Ozzie...

  • 0:55 john deacon??

  • How many of the back up group played for Mr Presley?

  • Probably the best of all "TV stars turned singers"

  • The girl at 39 or 40 is an actress named Judy Lewis. She is actually the daughter of Clark Gable and Loretta Young.

  • @juddcreek2 ...Yes I can see the Touches of both Clark and Lorretta...

  • Great footage!!!!!!!

  • this is one man who was always extremely handsome but somehow got better looking with age!

    rip Rick

  • Great song AND great harmonies too

  • @mollymitch1 Agreed!! And the lyrics: "Look up, is that the moon we see? Can't be, looks like the sun to me."

Witty and very clever interior rhyming. And it kicks like rock-a-billy should. Great is right.

  • The guitar solo is something else in this record

  • when i was littlew and my mom wanted me to go to bed she would sing this

  • he is a great singer i love the song he is sexy forever

  • He was such a great singer

    Ricky Nelson RIP

  • Before the Beatles, Rick Nelson taught Americans what being a rock star was all about. I always waited 'til the end of Ozzie and Harriet to hear Rick sing. And the girls screamed and sighed for Rick. But Rick had class, being backed by a very young guitar wizard named James Burton. Rick had it all, good looks, perfect voice, class, great songs, and a kick-butt back-up band.

  • @dougalmac54 I always thought it was very interesting that when ELVIS started to tour he picked Rickys guitar man (James Burton) to head up his band. I always thought that Ricky was just a wee bit better than Elvis. Perhaps the King did to!

  • @code2high Don't agree with you about Ricky being better than Elvis. I'm a huge fan of both. I'll never understand comments that pit performers against each other. They was both absolutely superb in their own right...

  • No, the guitar is done by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer James Burton (he's on the right). James' session resume includes most of Ricky's songs, along with playing with many other musicians. He played on Arlo Guthrie's "Running Down The Road" album (which had "Coming Into Los Angeles" on it)

It is lip-synched to the recording, like most of the videos on "Ozzie & Harriet" were.. But whereas Ricky's lip-synching to his own vocals, the other three are lip-synching to The Jordanaires.

  • Great song.

  • What a great song. Ricky was adored by a huge percentage of mostly white folks in the late 50s early 60s. He was marketed squeaky clean, and that fact alone may have led to a fall from grace before making a big comeback before he was tragically killed.

  • AWESOME ARRANGEMENT. LOVE RICKY .

  • turns out the guitar part I like isn't even Ricky, bummer

  • My favorite Ricky Nelson song.

  • Ricky - R.I.P. - thanks for all your wonderful songs - the nowadays idiots should listen to your songs - a n d - . . they should . . . better I say nothing !!

  • Why didn't he use his cell phone?

  • this 45 had as much influence on me as any Beatles 45

  • R I P

  • that was me on lead guitar

  • I was -3

  • this was actually when he was 17 so this is from 1957

  • He makes my Ovaltine boil...

  • All his songs were DIAMONDS for me - thanks !!

  • Happy Days

  • i heard this song playing while waiting for a film to start at my local theatre. love fifties music :)

  • YEP, Ricky was one of my favorites too, loved his smooth voice & great music!!

They don't make them like him anymore !! Sadly missed when he died.

  • @pinkgogiver I liked his attitude,he saw the attention Elvis was getting and he said why can't I do that,he nearly did,yet we know, there is One Elvis

  • Isn't that the late Richard Mulligan in the back at the window??

  • OK this used to be my faviort song by him=) I was 13 years old when I was intrudesced to Ricky Nelson and I am now 28 years old and a Mom of 2 little girls and still Love his Voice=)

  • hes a babe

  • What a lot of people don't realize is that Rick Nelson made rock and roll acceptable to many parents once he started performing on the show. It is no secret...Rock historians all agree Rick Nelson made rock and roll acceptable and paved the way for many singers and musicians to perform on TV.

  • To all of you who post these video's a big thank you, Rick was a great singer and a even nicer person, Rick took karate with my instructor Bruce Tegner, And on a couple of occasions I got to meet and help on his lessons, I was a punching/kicking bag, Twisting/choking/throwing dummy, And even though Rick just took karate as a hobby, Just as he did trapeze work, Played tennis or anything else he did he was pretty good. Rick, Thank you for all of the pleasure you gave us.

  • If you look at the clip when it hits 39 and 40 seconds that girl who looks like she had a face and smile lift that is my grandmother... Billy Jo Winters... She has told me time after time, that she loved Ricky as did a whole lot of girls and to this day, she has a picture of them together at the shoot and if she did not marry my grandfather, she would have married him instead

    Mike

  • @myanelli wow that's awesome! and...why didnt she marry ricky!?

  • @omarskats3000 cos he was mine.lol

  • @omarskats3000

She met my grandfather before she appeared on the show, this was the only show she did and after that the rest is history..

    Mike

  • @myanelli mike...that's a great story....hope grandma is well and happy...i think i smiled just as big....really...nice story.... :)

  • @myanelli Dear Mike: Thanks for sharing that piece of info about your grandmother. She was a very attractive young lady. She had the looks of a promising actress. Did she do any other guest spots? How was she chosen for this show. It's people like yourself who share their memories with all of us so that we can appreciate this clips from our collective past with more appreciation. Thanks again, Mike Newton.

  • @myanelli oh no she's cute, she just looks like she's in love!

  • @myanelli Another post further below claimed the woman in the picture is of an actress named Judy Lewis and is actually the (formerly secret) daughter of Clark Gable and Loretta Young. I GOOGLED her name and found several links about this...and also looking at Google Images....there's no doubt that Judy Lewis and the woman in the video at 39 secs are the same person. Either you had a very famous grandmother....or grandma (or you) told a little white fib.

  • @myanelli

Very talented lady @.Burlesque If you google her name you'll see what I mean ;)

  • @myanelli Thats a great story. She can't be very *old* today...only in her late 60's ??? I'm only a couple of years younger..and remember Ricky very well..

  • @myanelli Hey Mike, beautiful grandma, man!

  • @myanelli That's a sweet memory to share with your grandmother. I am glad you got to experience something so special with her. How cool.

  • HIs (often covers) had influence. This was his best but so short. His voice sounds exactly like his father's, a singer too. I once went to the San Mateo Co. Fair because Ricky was headliner. We'd have done well by a number of songs I wrote, "his" style. At the fair he had a pretentious country-licks loud lead guitar, hurt the songs. RIcky sang a LOT of his songs, yet NEVER this one, the one I'd specifically gone to hear him sing! A year later, he was gone that very eerie way . RIP.Ricky Nelson.

  • STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE ROCKABILLY SONGS EVER WHICH IS WHY MY BAND COVERS AT SHOWS !!!!! THANKS RICKY FOR HELPING ME TO FIND MY MUSICAL INFLUENCE,YOU!!!!

  • No need to smile much - with the looks of10 film-stars,the voice of a God and kickass backup to die for !

  • I wish that the teen idols I grow up with nowadays were as respectable and well-mannered as Ricky Nelson... It really saddens me to see the state of our society, and values.

  • @jezebelmisunderstood It all comes and goes in cycles.. In a few hundred years the teen idols will again be respectable and well-mannered.. and the gift of Music will again be rediscovered by the mankind..

  • He looks tired, but soooo adorable! =)

  • his eyes are soo sad :(

  • I love Ricky more than any artist and I wasn't even alive when he was. I will show my children his music cuz he is amazing!! I love him and I love his sons Gunner and Matthew. Especially Matthew

  • on my record it has a little skip at the end and it's weired to here the song without it. lol. I had my dad convert the record to a CD, so I got all my ricky nelson songs on my ipod! ♥

  • great song

  • Ricky Nelson, you set the mold for pop. I wish yiu were still around with the many fans that you have. Some smart folks are getting bored with the 'New Music of Today, Gaga, Miley, ect. Your old gutair player, James Burton ar Making New Music. With all respect and admiration.....

  • @claudekingclaudeking u still got sam, he looks just like his dad!

  • One of my favorites.

  • Ricky's lives on AMC with John Wayne in Rio Bravo , and his name was Colorado.

  • Hello Fans I have always Loved Rick.. My name is Claude King.. I have a new album, The Cajun Cowboy on Amazon. Love You All ....Claude King

  • @4321claude Are you the Claude King who sang 'Wolverton Mountain'?

  • @4321claude Are you the Claude King who sang 'Wolverton Mountain'?

  • the way he blinks in so sexy! i just wanna bite his bottom lip!!!! and dip it in chocolate! god, you're crazy to not watch that twice. i dont even need the volume, to watch this. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

  • @omarskats3000 DITTO!

  • What's the deal with that woman @ :40? Looks like somebody with a mask on.....yikes!!!!

  • The look in some of those women's eyes... you'd think he was made of diamonds and chocolate.

    Great man, Great song.

  • I wish we could go back to the 50s again.

  • if i was there in his time i'd rock his worrld! ; )

  • @shootinthetube- I was there, too, and I recall one Rockabilly cat who had least three tombstones tatooed on his arms, with the names Eddie, Elivis, and Gene writen below one each. I suspect that his next one was going to say Ricky...A very sad time for many of us.

  • at :40, possible ricky nelson cougar?

  • The woman in the close up was Clark Gable and Loretta Young's daughter.

  • @sharonkayb

Oh yea, wow... she looks exactly like Clark when she smiles. Freaky!

  • ABSOLUTELY AWESOME ROCKABILLY ARTIST, NOT TO MENTION ROCK, AND COUNTRY ROCK. MY FAVORITE ALL AROUND ARTIST OF ALL TIME

  • 0:43, guy beside Ricky becomes Elvis's lead guitar from 1969-1977! James Burton

  • I was a huge fan, and ironically, I was at his funeral, a small gathering of family and friends. I think they wondered ....who was I. I was just led there, thats all. My tears flowed with theirs.

  • I agree that the guitar licks on Ricky's records were great - of course the record bosses didn't publicise the fact that it was James Burton. As most of Ricky's publicity photos had him holding a guitar and his videos had him 'playing' a guitar, I think they were happy for us to believe the guitar work was by Ricky himself.

  • @TOMBANCROFT You mean he did not know how to play guitar! I am shocked, I thought Ricky played guitar.....??????

  • Gosh he was so darn Purrty!

  • great homeshow video, i like it !!

  • its more pop than rock. but good. shame how he died tho. i belted him out of my zephyr mkII window tho

  • this is cool and new to me

  • If I was a teenage girl in the 50's I think Ricky Nelson would've been my celebrity crush =). my mom wasn't even born during that time WOW.

  • Just about my favorite stuff in the world. Ricky with James Burton. Can't get much better.

  • The dude standing next to Rick reminds me of Crush from Finding Nemo...

  • When Elvis met Ricky Nelson, Elvis was in awe. He couldn't believe he had met Ricky Nelson. Documented.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE And Ricky was in seventh heaven for 6 months after the meeting.

    Documented.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE I love stories like this about the early days of rock, especially when they are about the greats such as Ricky and the King. Actually, I heard something like this in an interview, and that afterward they remained friends. Can you imagine being in company like that, with all that talent and charisma and the high of success? I actually spoke with Fabian once, and he had some great things to say about Elvis. What a time--what incredible songs in the early stages of Top 40 R&R!

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE That sounds like Elvis. I don't know that he understood how big he really was. Didn't they hit the charts big at about the same time?

  • Comment removed

  • @seonfox Congragulations!!!.....you're the first person to leave an ignorant comment here.

DING DING DING!!!! You're the big winner!!!

What does he win, Johnny?!......Thanks Bob! This contestant wins an all expense paid tuition to some comprehension classes held at his local primary school. And when he is finished with that we're going to throw in a free course on how to shed the sack of stupid he pulls from. Back to you, Bob!

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE what constitutes ignorant I want to get in on this

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE what did seonfox say to win all these prizes. The website took the comments down so we can't judge for ourselves whether the comment warrented this criticism. Did she prefer Elvis to Ricky or did she think that Ricky was usurping Elvis' style. Personally as a guy, I liked Ricky but his music had a beat I could dance to and I was able to sing his slow ballads to my girlfriend.,

  • @MrFrontrowkid I can't even remember. But whoever it was went on the attack towards my comment about Elvis being in awe of Ricky Nelson when they met in the 50's. And I like Elvis better by far.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE hey give me a chance :)

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE <--- Retard. Documented.

  • @seonfox You tell 'em, retard.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE <-- Biggest Ricky Nelson fan. Documented.

  • @seonfox You tell 'em, retard!!

  • the 50's and early 60's where amazing! parents and kids could listen to music together and like it...Ricky Nelson, Pat Boone, Everly Brothers and the list goes on and on!

  • Ricky met the great James Burton op leadgitaar. 25 mei 2010 kun je James Burton in levende lijve zien en horen in het Paard van Troje te Den Haag!!

  • He was a PRETTY man!

  • Comment removed

  • Ricky Nelson Is SOOO HOT!! OMG! <3

  • OUTSTANDING!!! Ricky Nelson is one of my all time favorite artists!!

    Thanks, ~Matt~

  • Today my aging mother asked me about Rick Nelson. This is such a great entertainer. You left the earth to soon. I'm a big fan now!

  • love it<3 he was amazing

  • AWESOME!

  • Few people realize that Ricky was actually an "Eric"....I am also an Eric who, at 57, is still "Ricky" to old friends and certainly to family........when Ricky Nelson died, a part of me died too, as I always felt a connection with not only him, but to the 50's that I so wish we could go back to now, as a country!

  • @silverwbky Im 27 this is all the music me and my friends listen to. We are sick of the current norms in todays society. This is great stuff i wish I lived back then.....the country was strong then.

  • @silverwbky ....... I am also of the same generation but have a little closer connection as I grew up in the same town as "Eric" (Teaneck NJ) but being 10 years behind him I never got a chance to meet him or his family before they headed to California and stardom. His loss was definitley a major tragedy for all of his fans and the music world as a whole. I covered 2 of his songs, HELLO MARY LOU and LONESOME TOWN, the latter song being my all time favorite love ballad. Check them out if you can.

  • @silverwbky yeah..seams long time back america won war..and the war profits filled the chests...

  • @srang12345

sometimes you just listen to the music and take a break from corporate greed polemics and Obama (either way you feel about him) and just rock 'n roll.

Give it a rest and enjoy music. You can be miserable the rest of the time. Ok?

  • @silverwbky Never better said.

  • Ricky Nelson is underrated and glossed over by Rock History. In his day Ricky was a super star. He was a teen idol. His image was in all the teen magazines. He ranks fourth as the most rock hit record sales.

  • @nelsondowney yeah they have him as like # 90 something on the rolling stone top 100 immortals list....they're stupid aren't they!

  • @nelsondowney I totally agree. He was one the first to really bring a strong emphasis of Country & Western into his music. It is often said about other artists, but he really is under-rated.

  • @nelsondowney he's bad ass!! i dont know about 4th tho? but he's bad to the bone!!

  • Memories.

  • cuteeee

  • That's why I love YouTube :)

  • GREAT ONE OF RICK - GREAT SINGER.

  • yea thats who he looks like....and i think chris evans is sooooooooooooo hot! after johnny depp though

  • I'm at a loss here....every so often they play Garden Party on the oldies station...but the voice and music doesn't sound the same. Is the more popular version of Garden Party the one done by John Fogarty...who is whom I think I am hearing on the radio??

  • @Emeraldknife

Garden part was much later than these TV shows, 1971 or 72 I think. He sounds very different. The song was about his disgust with people who only wanted to hear his old stuff.

If mermories were all I sung, I'd rather drive a truck. -

  • @samantcha What specs are you wearing ? He looks like Ricky Nelson ! Chris Evans looks like Terry Wogan Jr.

  • Comment removed

  • he was so cute i was 6 years old then

  • Ricky to me was what elvis was to most people..I loved Ricky...and so damn cute

  • he is cuter than his sons

  • Garden Party made sense. BUT; MY 20 year and 35 year H.S. re-unions were AWESOME!!!!

  • @greattools Awesome. I don't remember what it said though. I wish more people could do that. Happy New Year

  • @greattools Probably thumbs down for using the F word. What is so wrong with being a lady?
