Had you thought about complaining to some sort of complaints commission about it? I've never had a problem with my camera on my bicycle helmet, and I've passed and been passed by plenty of coppers...to be fair...it wasn't a waste of his time, as ultimately, he gets paid either way. Do you really think he could care about stopping crime? I've complained about some moron's driving a few times and been completely fobbed off. My Dad has complained to the police too (motorbike) and had no luck.
I am reasonably tempted to make a short DVD for the local coppers, who a year later still haven't gotten back to me after I spent about an hour giving them a statement for dangerous driving, of the worst shit I've had to put up with and ask them to confirm that it was acceptable in their mind - because their attitude may as well be that it is. I had the same prob wilst photographing and filming football violence outside a pub. Cops told me i was aggrivating the situation. They told me if i was recording sound and picture without permission i was breaking the law??? I was a fair distance away too??? Muppets. They hate being filmed yet they now film everything...

Yeah, I put my car on a curb where nobody was walking or anything, to pick up my near 80 year old granny. I did so cause the parking lot was stuffed, she lives by a shopping centre and it was on a saturday. So when I came back, TICKET. Went to tell my story, she couldn't think of a solution either but there had to be a solution and it's my problem. I like the German cops, I got caught by an undercover car, doing 70kmh above the limit and he just wanted to see if I had any drugs on me lol.

Same thing happened to me, only they took 5 hours to come out, told me they thought someone had already seen me. Throughout the interview i was treated as if i had arranged the theft, as did the insurance company. They eventually caught the guy who got a caution. Great and theres me £1000 out of pocket with no personal transport. Ohh and under the terrorism laws and video evidence i may have had would be illegal.

1) The camera is attached to the side of the helmet, not in front of the face and so cannot impact it.
2) There is a difference between "seemingly taking surveillance" and simply "having a camera".
3) The police officer saw what was being recorded because he followed Sven. Also, in public, you have no right to privacy. If I can see it, I can make a record of it. You don't like it; stay at home.
4) "Vigilant"? I'd say "oppressive"... stopping people with no reasonable cause.

I drove trucks in England and being from Ireland everytime there was a terrorist attack you were guaranteed to be pulled over and hastled over your load tyres lights etc even though you were no where near where the attack happened and just because you were Irish.This was a long time before these new laws came in. After a while you get used to the B.S and although very annoying the first time the next time you get stopped for your terrorist camera it will not be so frustrating.

Had you thought about complaining to some sort of complaints commission about it? I've never had a problem with my camera on my bicycle helmet, and I've passed and been passed by plenty of coppers...to be fair...it wasn't a waste of his time, as ultimately, he gets paid either way. Do you really think he could care about stopping crime? I've complained about some moron's driving a few times and been completely fobbed off. My Dad has complained to the police too (motorbike) and had no luck.

I am reasonably tempted to make a short DVD for the local coppers, who a year later still haven't gotten back to me after I spent about an hour giving them a statement for dangerous driving, of the worst shit I've had to put up with and ask them to confirm that it was acceptable in their mind - because their attitude may as well be that it is. That would include lorries trailers missing by inches.
I'll be honest and say I don't really have much respect for the police & their attitude.
