I always thought a man should cover this song. In the lyrics she says something about possessing Heathcliff so it makes sense that she is speaking from his body.
this makes me think of Cathy's perspective more while listening to Kate Bush makes me think of Heathcliff's perspective. Heathcliff always looked like Timothy Dalton until I read the book when I was 14 and then I decided he'd look more like Ashmit Patel, John Abraham or Mohammad Reza Golzar. Now I can only think Tom Hardy! *sigh*
people can complain all they like, but this is damn good and i have no problem with it, both pieces are creative and interesting so whats with the hostility?
I absolutely love this!!! I never thought there would be an acoustic version of this song...it is WONDERFUL!!! I never did like the Kate Bush version of this song. I liked the Pat Benitar version. Wuthering Heights is one of my all time favorite classic movies! Thanks for making this!
I'm addicted to your music after hearing this on Radio 2 last year.. just wanted you to know.. that you opened my ears to a lot of new artists.. Very brave to tackle such a classic ..and my lord did you do it justice!.. flipping awesome!
I guess you'll stone me, but I think this version lacks wicked quality of the original. It's just another sexless, guitar indie song. It's not ruined, but doesn't grab any attention.
I listened to this version intending to rip on it b/c I love the original with all of my heart and soul... but i can't.... not even a little bit. Beautiful.
while i love this cover and i think his voice matches the guitar it doesnt work for the song you need the higher notes in it for the song to have real power like when it is sung by Kate Bush
Has somebody analyzed what he did to the chords? Especially in the beginning of the song he's doing some pretty arcane stuff. Send me if a message if you transcribed them.
He covered a great song, he has the damn right. You can't expect him to sing like a woman. That's what this whole album is. A comparisin. Excellent job I say.
That's rather a thick-headed comment from someone whose profile says he's an aspiring composer. Kate Bush has fans ranging from Tupac Shakur and Johnny Rotten to Coldplay and Natalie Cole. She's one of the most respected singer-songwriters of the last 30 years. You won't develop as a musician if you don't recognize quality when you hear it.
I really think this conveys the melancoly much better than the original. I really get a feeling of resigned desperation from this, but also a bit of hopefulness towards the end. What a fantastic cover this is.
In general I prefere Kate Bush's version (somehow her unusual voice seems to match it very well), but this cover version doesn't fall to far behind the original. I really like the mellow tunes and the chorus is very nice.
I love Josh's voice, singing this song is such a perfect combination. He's really made it his own. I was dreading hearing him sing the chorus three octaves higher! haha.
I'm a diehard Kate Bush fan form way back..and i think any artistic tribute to her is awesome..i see complaints that its not as good as original or whatever...but its not trying to be! Lets face it, no-one could really copy Kate Bush!! Good onya Josh..Beautiful!!
I will add this along with Pat Benatar's version as my fav versions. I appreciate Kate Bush, her music is beautiful but I have a hard time taking her singing of this song as anything but cartoonish and way too busy.
Unusual version, but good version. I personally prefer the Kate Bush, and even the Hayley Westenra version since I feel that it really captures the freaky and haunting qualities of the book and of course the song. But this one has a soothing, somewhat dreary quality to it.
this song is about passion. Its a plea from the heart. Its spiky, its a hoare frost on a cold morning. Its snorting horses. Its a love hate relationship. Its fierce. Its two ghosts walking together at last. It Wuthering heights. Its kate Bush. This version lacks all of this. The very essence of the story and the song.
EVERYBODY should read Wuthering Heights it is an awsome novel. This version sounds much better in my ears than does Kate Bush's version. Not that shes bad, just not my thing.
This is a truly beautiful cover. Always found Kate Bush a little bit much but Josh's stripping of this down to its simplest form just made this song so beautiful.... can't stop listening to it!
Thanks for the posting! I found this song a bit strange at first being covered by a male when it is from a very female pov, but after multiple listens, I have found that although Josh hasn't meddled with the original lyrics, he sings the chorus "Heathcliff, it's me your Cathy, I've come home" to sound like "Heathcliff it's me, you're Cathy you've come home". So it becomes from Heathcliff's perspective. I found that really romantic and beautiful!

@tablicakorkowa I agree. The theatrics of the original matched the content of the lyrics. This one's nice, but not as powerful.

Listen To 'Angra -Wuthering Heights' The guy who sings it pulls it off heaps better than Mr Pyke.

What planet are you from???
Toby11222 2 years ago 3
yes, i agree comopletely with you. angras clip is way out of the range of the person singing it, asd they are singing falsetto
