Does anyone remember from the mid 90's the late night move one they would run? It showed an Owl sitting in a tree, in the background was a house that was all dark except for the living room window that had the flickering light from the TV. It played audio clips from different movies. I would love to see that again, such great memories.
No disrespect and don't mean this in a negative way but Larry's voice always sounded "geeky" to me.lol But yet, it was so unique. It stood out to a lot. Made the station more fun to watch! So, look at my first statement a positive because he has a friendly voice. But I'm trying to look for the news theme this station had in the early 80's. KMPH has an very interesting history. (-:
I honestly believe this is later than 1971 because of the Steve Miller music being used as the underscore which is from 1976 or 1977. And yeah it does look like the WGBH logo.
@eljefe247 No. It just showed the words "Creature Feature" on the screen, and it played a song that I believe was the beginning of the Elton John song "Funeral for a Friend," or at least I think that is the name of the song. It was just the opening of the song, played on a synthesizer. I remember it well from the mid and late 1970s and the very early 1980s. The same voice that you hear on the above station ident was the voice that announced "Creature Feature."
That is such a weird ident there. That looks more like an early 80's ident with synth sounding music to it. I have never ever seen an ident like that before from the early 70's.
I grew up in the Valley and I vividly recall that they were using that same "Star Wars" type station ident with the Steve Miller music in the summer of 1979. Does anyone out there have the KMPH 26 Ident from 1977..."Our world is your world on TV 26...it's where you belong, my friiieeend..." That was the station ident they were using when I first moved to the Valley and I have never forgotten it!
I believe the voice over is that of Larry Howland. For many years, he was the voice of the station. He was still working at KMPH in 2006 when I quit, and may possibly still be there. A really nice guy.
This had to have been from 1977, not '71. The song "Threshold" was from Steve Miller's "Book of Dreams" album that he released in '77; the animation looks like it was Star Wars-inspired anyway. '77 fits a lot better.
@KodyBoy555 I remember them using this ident beginning in the summer of 1979. I don't remember seeing it before then, and I was in grade school at that time and watched Channel 26 a lot.
That's so 1970s, the sound quality, the logo font and reminds me of disco music videos. In the words of '70s soul pop diva Gloria Gaynor: "And I'm back...from outer space" an excerpt from her trademark hit "I will Survive". (brainstorm...somebody please make a vid of the ident, but make it run slow and repeat through the soundtrack.) Don't forget to give me credit. +

I wish someone had a clip of the old "Creature Feature" intro from KMPH from back in the 1970s. Anyone?

@KodyBoy555
It's from 1977 or at least the late 1970s, never really got around to correcting the title of the video.
