  • Not important? Doris Day requested this song for one of her movies. This song brings back memories for a lot of people..including me.

  • for my girlfriend julie

  • the music ismn't really that good=======it's the memories that are great.

  • @TheRonpower Awesome story. So glad for your run. God Bless you both. (Looks like he did already)

  • @TheRonpower the music was primitive but try to play it with the new techno shit and it doesn't sound right. this is the music of this generation and you really can't change it.

  • We played this one, over and over in 1957 on your 45 rpm player...You were 14, and I was 17...We were in love...And now, 54 years later, we're STILL in love, and have our two delightful daughters, three wonderful grand-children, and two of the most precious great-grand-children in the world...Stick around, Sweetheart, and let's celebrate our 75th in a few years...And let's KEEP DANCING to "OH JULIE"!!!

  • Wow...I had forgotten about that one...Julie was one of the "firsts" for a lot of us...

Even pre-windshield frosting for me...Thanks for the memories...

  • I have this 45.

  • I haven't heard this since '65. Thanks.

  • Great song. I had forgotten about it until I saw your post. Thank you so much for posting this song...

  • One of my all-time favorites. Back in 1957, I played my 45 of it until it was paper-thin!

  • Right out of Nashville, Tn. In the first picture the guy sitting down is Noel Ball a great disc jockey on WSIX Rocket 98 through out the 50's. Listened to him many many nights. Loved this song because there was a girl at Madison High named Julie Brown and I always thought of her.

  • You just can't get better than songs like this. I miss the day gone by.

  • GREAT SONG!

  • and i still love juliana Taylor June 26 1957

  • I was so young and innocent! God, I wish I could go back then!!

  • One of the very best one hit wonders from the 1950s.

  • thx for great post! brings nice mems of teen years!!respect!!

  • damn, I was born when this song came out. .makes me feel old. But i love the song

  • damn this is one powerful song. the voices, the female background voice. A teenage dream that can't come true. Guess that happened to a lot of us.

  • this is for julie moran who broke my heart

  • Wonderful song, but it is misdated. It was released and popular in 1958, not 1957. I was there.

  • urgh what a sad and boring song! Glad i was not growing up when this type of music was played

  • @Gaga4president I'm glad for you!!!

  • @Gaga4president I'm glad also. Nobody would have liked you. You don't know good music.

  • I remember as a kid I'd sing the guy part and my two little brothers would do the "Haaa-oooo" part. My Mom would always bust up laughing. How I wish I could go back to those carefree days.

  • This song was in the top 10 in the world charts in 1958

  • Well, Scuzzydirtbag, I'll bet you did have fun at dances at the Rock Building in Gilmer, TX. I know I had a lot of fun. Boy Scout Troop 312 went to Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, NM, in June of 1958 and we had a number of fund raisers at the Rock Building--both food and dancing. And, of course, "Oh Julie" was one of the songs we played.

  • im 24 iheard this the first time whem i was 16 i love this record thanks

  • Great song, Now that i think of it i wonder what ever happened to Juliana Taylor best looking girl in Littleflower school June 1957 brooklyn NY

  • My sister got "Oh Julie" for her birthday at a party at the "Rock Building" in Gilmer, TX. She, our cousin, and I invited everyone in school and well over 100 kids showed up. My mother was overwhelmed because she didn't have nearly enough refreshments and had to send someone to buy out the town. My sister got the greatest haul of presents I've ever seen. I loved this song.

  • @FatsFan1956 I remember Friday night Dances in the Rock Building. I looked forward to every one of them.

  • jueles theangel--shakin'stevens tune is great

  • @devilpup1945 bitchin i was only 13 mercy

  • I remember when this song was rated on American Bandstand, good to dance to! Great memories, thanks.

  • I'm so happy to see and hear this song on here, my MaMa named me after this song and I mention it on my myspace comedy site. I've had radio hosts play it when I've done interviews for them because of that, lol. Nice to know its loved so much by so many people on here. ;-) Where are the members of The Crescendos now? Does anybody on here know? Just curious.

xox, Funny Bunny love and laughter,

    Julie McCullough

  • I was 13 when this song came out. I danced my first slow dance, in grade school, to this song. I love listening to it a lot, it brings back so many memories.

  • I was also named after this song & my parents still have the 45. There must be alot of us.

    Julie G Branstetter Workman

  • there is....i had this on a 78...it sounned the same as this...i had polio when i was a kid....i had a crush on everybody, but i liked Julie....her name was July Buchy.....all these years and i still like her....SUPER!!!!

  • I was only 10 when I heard this & then I'd just wait hrs 4 the DJ to play it! It is haunting & addictive. This reminds me of Julie Nixon-Eisenhower who is my age. Her dad was VicePres when this came out. Yrs later, when she got married at the Marble Collegiate Church to David Eisenhower, the Pres. grandson, I hoped she would play this right before she marched down the aisle! What a silly idea, but there it is, memories of a more innocent time!

  • what a haunting voice in the background this is a great song i have never heard it before briliant many thanks for posting

  • one of the all time greats

  • This record just keeps chuggin' along.

  • My name is Julie.....love it.

  • My grand daughter was just born and named Julie. In the back of my mind this song played over and over even though I was not yet a teen when it came out.. After searching and searching I found your posting. Thanks abunch. I've been playing it over and and over for her. Thanks again.

  • the B-side "My Little Girl" is also excellent

  • Wow, do i remember this!

"Her" voice was one of the most scintillating and erotic inspirations ever!

Her "ohh, haa" still makes me feel young and vigirous.

Oh, for the greeat, old music.

    Frank

  • You are right...they don't make music like this any more and it is a shame.....the younger generation doesn't always know what is best....this was my first record and i got it on a 78.....am i old....NOT!!!!!

  • Melani54, Thanks. I'll be crankin' it up in a few minutes.

  • i love that record player. its so cool!

  • one of my all-time favorite records

I heard this the first time when I was about 15, then didnt hear it again for 20 years!

  • I was interested in a girl named Julie who I knew a few years ago. Just like in this song, she was older than me. Kind of nice to revisit those memories.....

  • Reminds me of a girl I tried to date (and failed) from Sheepshead High School.

The female in this record went on to become known as the "Oh Julie Girl", Janice Green. Altough the song and group are outstanding, her contribution makes everything even better.

    Great Song.

  • Dancing at Canteen in 5th Grade. This was "the song"in those days. What a wonderful memory.

  • This was the First "Rock N Roll" record I owned.

  • I really appreciate being able to hear this again. One of my first girl friends was named Julie. She was a Sophomore and I was a Freshman, so this became our song when it came out. I did not realize it sold so many copies, I thought it was just a minor hit.

    Thanks again for sharing.

  • always loved grom the first time I heard it but it didn't sound like something i could categorize as rock...more like country

  • thats a first pressing. Got one also in my collection. the original ,and the best!

  • ... yes indeed, an outstanding, spectacular and great recording !

  • I remember running home from school to watch

American Bandstand and saw the Crescendos

on it more than once. I think they were from

    Nashville or Memphis.

  • Otis williams and the charms original version still sounded better

  • ... a "lame duck" compared with the Crescendos also dramaturgic better interpretation ;-), besides The Crescendos had the original !

  • and the hits keep on coming......

  • This represents all that was to be a teenager in the late 50's. Thanks for the video post.

  • Hey. i love this good song. Thank you

  • This is the definition of a "haunting" doo-wop Love Ballad. I remember very well, the hormone rush I felt when I heard this incredible record -- it was a drugless "high" if there was one. To be in puppy love w/music like this was something else.

I always wondered if Julie Nixon played it at her wedding!

  • Loved this song since I heard it first on Jun 16, 1984. I was 15, and had just discovered fifties music through a Dutch radio show playing the 1958 year end top 100 chart, all 100 tunes back to back over seven hours. I taped every single song and am still a fan.

  • Great song

  • highhoose ,

It's amazing how important this record is to people.

  • Sounds like my high school life

  • This was the first record that I boughtas a kid. I happen to think about it a few days ago and decided to see if it was on youtube. I couldn't believe it when I saw it was there. Thanks for the post.

    Lon J.

  • Got a 45 of this in my personal collection.

  • viccharm, Good Deal !

  • Loved my listen...

  • SV650SRR , Wow ! That's great. I'm glad you get to hear this.

  • Thanks for putting this on here my grandfather and great uncle were in this group.I have looked all over for it.

  • I liked this song originally and I like it now. Im surprised to find it. Thanks for posting it!!

  • Great! KVS(class 0f 1961)

  • sounds like Buddy Holly!

  • in terms of voice, sort of, not not in style

    of music, esp. guitar.

  • treeforest2, I posted this song because I liked it. What a treat to see that so many others enjoy it too.

  • This was my all-time favorite doo-wop song when I was growing up. Would have been almost 13 when this came out. Can't believe there are others like me who still think this was a great hit. Congrats Julie Hugz79 on being named after it!!!!

  • hugz79 ,

     Great story !

  • I was named after this song my daddy loved the song and he heard it and said thats gonna be your name :) :)

  • lorolady , Yes, it is.

  • My gosh, one of my first favorites!!!! Isn't the internet wonderful? Thank you so much!!!

  • the lead vocals on this song were sung by george lanuis

  • bmxgenie ,

     Gone, but not forgotten.

  • had this on a 8 god knows where it ever went

  • dominacio ,

     You are most welcome, enjoy.

  • barrygio1 , It's been said that everyone has at least one great song inside of them. In the case of the Crescendos, this is it.

  • a great old song

  • davesharon5747, Thank you, I work hard at it. I want the records to sound as "alive" as possible.

  • WOW! Thank you!!

  • Terrific sound!!

  • 57Will

Thanks, Check out the link in the "About This Video" box.

  • I think it was Dale Ward singing lead on this, their only chart hit. Label looks fairly similar to the old Excello label.

By the way, the sound from the console is great!
