@TheRonpower the music was primitive but try to play it with the new techno shit and it doesn't sound right. this is the music of this generation and you really can't change it.
We played this one, over and over in 1957 on your 45 rpm player...You were 14, and I was 17...We were in love...And now, 54 years later, we're STILL in love, and have our two delightful daughters, three wonderful grand-children, and two of the most precious great-grand-children in the world...Stick around, Sweetheart, and let's celebrate our 75th in a few years...And let's KEEP DANCING to "OH JULIE"!!!
Right out of Nashville, Tn. In the first picture the guy sitting down is Noel Ball a great disc jockey on WSIX Rocket 98 through out the 50's. Listened to him many many nights. Loved this song because there was a girl at Madison High named Julie Brown and I always thought of her.
I remember as a kid I'd sing the guy part and my two little brothers would do the "Haaa-oooo" part. My Mom would always bust up laughing. How I wish I could go back to those carefree days.
Well, Scuzzydirtbag, I'll bet you did have fun at dances at the Rock Building in Gilmer, TX. I know I had a lot of fun. Boy Scout Troop 312 went to Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, NM, in June of 1958 and we had a number of fund raisers at the Rock Building--both food and dancing. And, of course, "Oh Julie" was one of the songs we played.
My sister got "Oh Julie" for her birthday at a party at the "Rock Building" in Gilmer, TX. She, our cousin, and I invited everyone in school and well over 100 kids showed up. My mother was overwhelmed because she didn't have nearly enough refreshments and had to send someone to buy out the town. My sister got the greatest haul of presents I've ever seen. I loved this song.
Yes a lot of us Julie"s around ! This is a great song and when it came out I was too young to hav heard it !So I am glad to hav found it.Jst off now to listen to Shakin" Stevens song Oh Julie !!!
I Was Sweet 16 when this song was out. What Great Memories,Wish I could do it all over again. I Give Thanks Every Day for my Wonderfull Life,Family and Friends, and this Music of course. Thank You, Pat
I'm so happy to see and hear this song on here, my MaMa named me after this song and I mention it on my myspace comedy site. I've had radio hosts play it when I've done interviews for them because of that, lol. Nice to know its loved so much by so many people on here. ;-) Where are the members of The Crescendos now? Does anybody on here know? Just curious.
I was 13 when this song came out. I danced my first slow dance, in grade school, to this song. I love listening to it a lot, it brings back so many memories.
there is....i had this on a 78...it sounned the same as this...i had polio when i was a kid....i had a crush on everybody, but i liked Julie....her name was July Buchy.....all these years and i still like her....SUPER!!!!
I was only 10 when I heard this & then I'd just wait hrs 4 the DJ to play it! It is haunting & addictive. This reminds me of Julie Nixon-Eisenhower who is my age. Her dad was VicePres when this came out. Yrs later, when she got married at the Marble Collegiate Church to David Eisenhower, the Pres. grandson, I hoped she would play this right before she marched down the aisle! What a silly idea, but there it is, memories of a more innocent time!
My grand daughter was just born and named Julie. In the back of my mind this song played over and over even though I was not yet a teen when it came out.. After searching and searching I found your posting. Thanks abunch. I've been playing it over and and over for her. Thanks again.
You are right...they don't make music like this any more and it is a shame.....the younger generation doesn't always know what is best....this was my first record and i got it on a 78.....am i old....NOT!!!!!
I was interested in a girl named Julie who I knew a few years ago. Just like in this song, she was older than me. Kind of nice to revisit those memories.....
Reminds me of a girl I tried to date (and failed) from Sheepshead High School.
The female in this record went on to become known as the "Oh Julie Girl", Janice Green. Altough the song and group are outstanding, her contribution makes everything even better.
I really appreciate being able to hear this again. One of my first girl friends was named Julie. She was a Sophomore and I was a Freshman, so this became our song when it came out. I did not realize it sold so many copies, I thought it was just a minor hit.
This is the definition of a "haunting" doo-wop Love Ballad. I remember very well, the hormone rush I felt when I heard this incredible record -- it was a drugless "high" if there was one. To be in puppy love w/music like this was something else.
I always wondered if Julie Nixon played it at her wedding!
Loved this song since I heard it first on Jun 16, 1984. I was 15, and had just discovered fifties music through a Dutch radio show playing the 1958 year end top 100 chart, all 100 tunes back to back over seven hours. I taped every single song and am still a fan.
This was the first record that I boughtas a kid. I happen to think about it a few days ago and decided to see if it was on youtube. I couldn't believe it when I saw it was there. Thanks for the post.
This was my all-time favorite doo-wop song when I was growing up. Would have been almost 13 when this came out. Can't believe there are others like me who still think this was a great hit. Congrats Julie Hugz79 on being named after it!!!!
Not important? Doris Day requested this song for one of her movies. This song brings back memories for a lot of people..including me.
