I remember the old Polo Park, before the second floor was added in 1986 (Eatons and Sears were the only stores with more floors). It was kind of dingy and poorly lit, and a lot of the mall surfaces were unfinished concrete. Still, it had some good stores. The renovated mall always struck me as too flashy.
I was syill in Winnipeg in 1979 -- brings back memories of COLD winters. I guess that's why I now live in California. Anyway a little bit of winter is fun & to some extent I miss it,
I remember as we used to drive in from Portage for Christmas shopping and going to the orthodontist. There was a pancake house there also?Fun driving from Portage to Winnipeg in heavy snow...lol.Winters here now in southern Ont are kinds whimpy compared to out there ;)
I remember The World of Cheese, Strain's Cameras, Kresges, the Fountain...

is Fairweather in the same location inside the mall? is the mushroom slide where Safeway is located?
jonkaho 3 years ago
I can't answer any questions about the mall's former layout, but that slide was next to the Simpsons-Sears mall entrance.
