  • I drive the JDM FD2 Type R. This is the car that has the true spirit of Honda's engineering. Stock motor making 225bhp and sounds awesome. Now that's engineering. Not getting cheap power using turbos.

    What i meant is that for a car that has no torque and no turbocharger, it would still do the same quarter mile time (stock vs stock) . and btw the golf didnt win, both the cars slowed down in the end.

  • both cars have stock a acceleration of 7 seconds for 0-100 km/h. So what....

    it´s just a matter of taste and that´s it. You can mod a GTI much easier to

    more power. I have a Type R because it´s designs and that circumstance that

    here in germany you can see a Golf on every corner. The Golf is in overall view the better car, but that counts not so much for me!!!

  • @rolexr 6.6 sec for the CTR and usually you get 7.2 in a gti. GTI is a much more pleasing day to day car. more comfortable to drive. CTR is basically the mean kid in the class who is good at sports. Thats how I see it.

  • The FN2 is around 205 hp...The Mk6 GTi is around 230 hp (ON A DYNO)...The FN2 is lighter (around 100 Kg) but still, it can't match the GTi due to the power difference.

    i have owned a seat and an audi before and i now drive a honda crx and i can honestly say that i would never want to go back to vw group again

  • @kusmenklote187 honda engines are slow no matter how many horsepower you have my grandmas 2011 fit sport goes from 0-60 in 10.8 seconds my dads 2009 golf 0-60 in 8 seonds and my 2011 gti mk6 0-60 in 6.4 seconds....my grandmas fit is already giving her problems and shes had it for a few months! no vw today goes from 0-60 in double digits only hondas can do that plus my gti gets 50mpg and hers gets 44 so her fit  is slow, ugly too, cheaply made, and not that economical sorry but i hate hondas

  • k20a2 is the motor from rsx s with ivtec, (inteligent variable timming economic control) to run as a 1.6 at low rpms getting more than 30mpgs when swaped into a civic increases mpg + power due to a lighter car, making 220 to the wheels, not crank, without a turbo running 12.5 on hatch and 13's on coupe without a bit of stress on a motor that has yet to be boosted. are you serious.. reliability and stress free car. boost lag? obviously someone dont know what the hell they are doing.

  • A sports cars is measured on speed, first places and 1/4 mile times, NOT on alleged economy.

    A 2.0 TURBO GTI gest 21mpg in the city and a whimpy 1.6 Civic barely gets 22mpg!

    You're bragging a mere 1 mpg as if that justifies 350 pounds less equipment, featureless noisy cabin and unresponsive VTEC engine that won't accelerate until you push it near the redline, just about the time you need to change gears anyway.

    VTEC is just a 29 year-old rustic on/off valve timing gizmo and the only "high-tech" feature that Honda brags about. Even little Fiats has more refined VVT valve tech, and GTIs don't even bother mentioning they have it with a bunch of stickers as Honda does.

  • @flurry they were almost even and this type r is just for fukken europ. it weights almost the same like the gti and its got less torque cuz it has a non turbo engine. and the 0-100km/h time the gti is abit faster. but for me a n/a engine is more fun. and by the way look after civic type r fd2. this should be the real deal. it has not much torque but it doesnt need torque to kick a lot of vw asses.

    for me this is more fun. i dont need torque if i dont have much weight....

    when its about real racing, the formula 1...they using small engines with not much torque and almost no weight and they are fast as hell. dont you know, put power on the car and you are faster on straights, take weight from it and you're faster everywere...

    "Better sounding" engine or flashy stickers don't win races. Formula One won't come to rescue your beloved Type-R nor erase the FACT that in the 1/4 mile it loses to an actual Grand Tourer (GTI).

    As for the fun factor, I don't know about you, but watching a quiet GTI beating a noisy Type-R is fun as hell!

  • @flurry i dont deny the gti is faster stock but they need a turbo to get power out of the engine... for a real racer vtec has more power from the same size n/a engine... honda drivers have the option of a turbo aswell...turbo+vtec... if you buy a car to race you are most def gonna modify it... i wouldnt take a vw for racing purposes or luxury for that matter... or reliability... or fuel economy or design or value for money

    Honda has option to shell $5,000 for a custom turbo job, to barely reach 300hp still with no torque plus horrible lag in addition to the already lax VTEC timing.

    If a Honda driver can put that much money, so a GTI. And being Turbo-ready from the factory, a $5,000 job will make a GTI push nearly 450hp, totally reliable, not like your flimsy and already-maxed-out-from-the-fac­tory Type-R.

    GTIs have VVT+Turbo, but they don't bother showcasing the former with stickers.

    but for me its no wonder the europ type r weights almost the same and has 190nm the gti has 280nm.

    if the civic was lighter it would be even. i wouldnt buy this type r anyway. i like the older ones much more. but dont say the gti is just a grand tourer it has at least 200 hp and the civic to doesnt matter what its called. and dont shit on me because of stickers. its not my fault when others put stickers on their cars

  • @402roadrunner oh and you should read what the gti will actually do 0-100kph in. VW rates the gti at 7.0sec 0-60mph, every car magazine that has driven the car has done it in under 6.5. Some as low as 6.1 bone stock. The proof is in the pudding, your honda is getting owned.

  • I drive an ep3. I love it! To be honest, there's too many standard Golfs out there! It's ruined the VW brand. In fact, Audi have gone down the same route... Shame really, over commercialised by buyers who know nothing about the car; just 'I see it everywhere, it's nice'. When do you ever see a Ep3 Type R in Britain?? :)

    Your comparing a GTI with turbo vs and Civic Si non turbo. Having almost the same ammount HP only diffrence is 2hp. And they only achieved that with the original engine that has 150Hp just put an turbo on it.

  • I'm trying to decide between a GTI or Civic SI. I don't have any loyalties though honda seems to have had a better track record for reliability. I do like the feel and looks of the VW better, but didn't VW have a bad track record for electrical and break downs with expensive repairs? And is the fact that VW's are assembled in Mexico and hondas in USA have a real bearing on quality?

  • @ooSilverSurferoo VW has all electrical kinds worked out of the mk5's and same mk6, they also have AMAZING warranties so even if something goes wrong you dont have to pay for it. I have daily driven a stage 2 mk5 gti for 3 years and iv driven it HARD and the only thing thats ever gone wrong was a coil going out...200 bucks to replace outside of the dealership... If youre looking for the car you can mod the best for the least amount of money and some decent torque GTI is the only way to go.

I will give u one a bmw m6 which is a 5.0 v10 does 0-60 in 4.6 (rwd) and an evo 8 mr fq 400 2.0 twin turbo supercharged does 0-60 in 3.5 ( awd) and if you watch some videos online you will see german cars getting destroyed on tracks and on straights. Not only that the best drift cars are awd and most of them are Japanese cars. Rwd cars are much harder to handle and are dangerous when driving fast and Awd cars are much more easier to handle.

FOR example i just got new rubber on my car, wanted to take em for a spin in a parking lot. 70 mph around a 90 degree turn and hardly and sliding, tho alot of squeiling. rear wheel cars for drift. awd for grip.

  • German cars are made to go fast on a straight and they look good inside and outside. Jap cars are just purely built to race with as most jap cars are good track cars unlike 2wd and rear wheel drive German cars. Personally to race i would get a jap car and to cruise around looking good i would go for a German car.

  • In AUS, on road costs of these cars is very different. Civic Type R always had $39990 drive away and you could easily get $37000. (I nearly bought one). GTi with a few nice options on it, $53500 for the one I wanted, and as high as $61000 fully optioned. Different class of cars. VW = German build and finish Honda = Pokemon plastic techno thrills

    first off, the chassis and suspension setup is poor (simply to cut costs) and it only has 1bhp more from that K20A (but a lot more weight)
