  • As a grad student I remember our assistant chair not hiring a computers and writing person who has gone on to fame and glory because his work "didn't seem serious." A friend and colleague still refers to it as "computers and keyboarding" and another colleague has a deep distrust for all things digital, and he's pretty cutting edge in lit theory and related areas.

So I like my colleagues, but I'm not as Kumbaya as Kafkaz on this matter.

  • Over 20 years ago, when I was cobbling together a new media degree that didn't yet exist, the crustier profs accused me of not *really* being an English major, summa cum laude notwithstanding. They were both right and wrong, and so it goes. Perhaps those who push towards the new in English Departments will always be regarded with some skepticism, but I don't picture Nazis at all. "Good fences make good neighbors" is (ironically) more like it. Tyrannical? Eh. Doesn't compute for me.

  • Nice, nice, nice...An artifact for the emergent, yet-to-be articulated direction of "composing"...

...bread and roses for us all...as an ethic, and as a reminder of the many roads of tyranny
