It's Mario Kart with the advantage of a clean slate, there'll be no gay-ass blue shells or rubberbanding in this game. The game also has more realistic control over cars and drifting (you pull the right trigger to accelerate instead of holding down a button) and the different vehicle classes have advantages over certain terrain types. So it's similar but not that much.

Ryo Hazuki is the main character of Shenmue, an adventure game for the Sega Dreamcast system. The system was released in 1999, with Shenmue being released a few years later. In the game you walk around town interacting with objects and people, trying to figure out why Ryo's father was murdered and by who. It's an open-world game.

Ristar certainly is not one of Sega's most well known characters and Sega's biggest games;- Sonic series, VF series, HOTD, NiGHTS etc etc have all sold WAYYY more or in the case of NiGHTS are much more well known and iconic.

Ristar I look at and see the culmination of everything the Sonic team knew at the height of their skill that has not been tainted by a stale series.

VF- is THE greatest fighting series ever, the only competition it has is Street Fighter. Soul Caliber is not as good, and Tekken certainly is not. Arcade racers?- Look at Sega they are the greatest- Outrun, Sega Rally, Daytona etc...

As for the best Sonic Team have ever put out that would be the original NiGHTS game from 1996- a game that imo (and many others) gave the mighty Mario64 a run for it's money.

As for Shenmue, those games were amazing.

I'm 21, I remember all these games as they were released, though I was never a big Sega fan.

I bought the games after the console became obsolete (In the interest of cost) which is why I remember the games released at the end of the console life cycle best.

NiGHTS I remember being impossible to play with the D-Pad and the presentation of Shenmue I did not find appealing.

I just didn't like the Sega approach to 3D games.

(Conker's Bad Fur Day was the best game of that generation.)

Cutting edge graphics for the time- 2000, quicktime events were great and went onto be adopted in the Resi Evil series which show how influencial Shenmue was. Senmue's story was not convoluted it was very simple- find the guy that killed your father, but it was a detective game. I guess you missed that, ;) and there were no serious issues. The game/s are masterpieces.

This borrows more from Outrun and Daytona than it does Mario Kart, as it controls more realistically (you have better control over your acceleration and drifting). The only similarity to Mario Kart is that it has items.

Sega DID make a fighting game like that, except it was for the Saturn and consisted mostly of Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers characters. It also had a few strange ones, like the AM2 logo Palm Tree, a giant living pork loin, and the Hornet car from Daytona USA.
