God help me if I ever do feel up to taking a plane, as I need to use a mobility scooter. I remember when I had knee braces, first time I wore them to fly, I didn't know they had metal in them - now, this is BEFORE TSA, before 9/11, they went nuts. I did tell them I was sorry that I didn't realize that was metal (I was told it was high impact plastic, what a lie, which I told them), I said if I'd known I'd have told them. They calmed down. Now, I'm not sure they would! Not sure bing nice works.

Well I refused the scanner in Sept, the young employee said well there is no more radiation than a Cell phone? I said I don't use cell phones, I told them go ahead and search me, a lady had to do it and I said its okay honey,, but they still had me stand by a lower like x ray thing for my private inside parts, it was a wait here area with little waist level machines, that was my impression

Alex.... someone with better communication skills than I should prepare a statement for those of us who must fly to read from when using the opt out option.... I haven't been through a body scanner yet, and would like to have something ready to use that would have the greatest impact... these scanners are the line I will not cross, and I don't want to be kicked off a flight for naught....

@dezldummi I've been through a body scanner twice in the past two years at Schipol. I didn't feel violated. I'm not sure of what the mm-waves will do to me if I keep being subjected to the machine. If they do end up causing cancer, I'd prefer not to.

In comparison, the baggage x-ray is relatively "safe". The radiation exposure on a 16 hour flight due to altitude is 16 times that of the x-ray is to your bag, or you, if you'd crawl through... What do the full body scanners do? We don't know yet.
