Awesome video. I'm selling my Decathlon and getting a Yak 55 soon. Never flew one. Was it difficult getting used to a right turning tendency and doing things to the right? Some say the plane is totally uncomfortable...your opinion? Tell me about fuel burn with the M14P...?
The 55 is a bunch different then the decathalon your used to. If your skills are decent you can make the transition fairly easily, BUT and I say BUT --> do not think you can make the transition on your own. You need some time in a russian airplane before you do it solo. The yak will hurt you if your not up to speed and ready for it, plus you need to learn how to deal with the MP 14, it is way different then an american engine.
I switched from the Pitts S2A to a 55M with no Russian type experience. After the first flight I concluded that the thing was so easy to fly and forgiving, that I would have to fly a Pitts once in awhile just to retain some piloting skills. The 55 is a blast to go out and hammer around and compete in (I only went thru Intermediate with it). I dont see much of a need for a bunch of 52 time prior to flying a 55. Get a good briefing from a 55 pilot and go have a blast.
Dude your saying that to a Decathlon pilot not a Pitts guy. Now if he is decent with a pitts then yes a Yak 55 is not out of the question as a 55 is way more stable. Although I have had a number of really decent Pitts pilots in the front seat of my Sukhoi that got the thing crossed up and out of shape... A suk is harder to land then a 55 but not by a big amount though...
Never flew a Sukhoi, but sure miss flying my 55. The thing was a total gas, but had to go back to an S2B to keep the old lady happy for the second seat. If I hit the lotto I'll be looking for a Sukhoi.
About 18 gal /hr in a cruise... and about 37gal / hour doing hard training acro.
If the engine is oil tight and and in good shape you will use about 1 liter of oil for a hard 20 minute acro training flight. In cruise it should not be more then a liter every couple of hours.
Understand the 55 is very uncomfortable and un fun to fly XC. Its truely a close to home plane unless you really need to ferry it for a contest or show.

The best pilot report is probably at fergworld (dot) com / yak ... all the reports I have read talk about how easy it is to land.
Fuel & oil consumption and lots of other stuff is at yakuk (dot) com .
(The cryptic web addresses are because youtube filters out URLs.)

Do you have any video without music? I'd love to hear the sound of that Vedeneyev M14...
