1. The Meters are sampled in this song..."Here Comes the Meterman." NOLA REPRESENT!
2. I have been listening to this at least once a week for almost 15 years. GOTT DAMN! This has to be one of the 5 best rap/hip hop songs ever recorded.
I think I just saw Jazzy Joyce in a Dj Webstar video on worldstarhiphop.I guess that was her dancing with the little girl doing the harlem shake in the chicken noodle soup video.I think it's the same Jazzy Joyce i always wondered what happened to her.
yup!!!this is when hip hop was relaxing, not violent, and if it was violen,it was violent with brains......I was very small when I heard rebirth of slick, I loved it, now, hip hop its not the same...
exactly...i remember purchasing this CD and was just in awe of the innovation and the originality. it was dark, gritty and raw with live instruments and spoken word. their first album was hot, but this was different. it was beyond next level for them and they got screwed big time. Hip Hop is real though, and real people relate to reality....it's alive in us.
I agree..Lady Bug is almost completely over-looked as a lyricist..but IMO they ALL were..but Buttafly NEVER gets any recognition as a tight producer...his tracks are ALL dope....
Dag, I see that we had the Fonk strong in the 90s too. I mean, I always knew that we carried the teachings of our peeps from the 70s and 80s pretty well but after looking at it again I see it even more clear.
this is what real hip hop should sound like not the crap thats out today. todays rap is garbage. LONG LIVE OLD SCKOOL HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup utooboob...good ear, real good ear, i was just thinking how i heard the beat elsewhere, it was def off of violent by design...any other NYers peeped the throw back DRO straight letter up on the gate behind the old mans at the corner spot??
"Straight New York'd You"... LadyBug killed it! I dug this track 100 times more than "Cool Like That". I got the 12" in the garage. Back in the day, this used to be instru-track I had on the answering machine.
