Iowa hasn't been a very accurate barometer of national trends in politics in any era that I can remember. If Ron Paul wins there, it won't necessarily parlay into wins in NH, SC, FL, NV, etc, although it appears to be a highly fractured caucus in the Republican fold this season. There's no telling how high emotions are running, and what kind of disastrous candidate they might come to fall in behind. One thing's for sure: it will be ugly.

Jonathan Alter is a fool. Ron Paul's economic positions have been discredited? Who is he kidding? Ron Paul has been right in all of his predictions and his warnings thus far, but because they didn't occur as soon as he made the prediction, OH NO HE'S WRONG HE'S AN IDIOT.

Iowa hasn't been a very accurate barometer of national trends in politics in any era that I can remember. If Ron Paul wins there, it won't necessarily parlay into wins in NH, SC, FL, NV, etc, although it appears to be a highly fractured caucus in the Republican fold this season. There's no telling how high emotions are running, and what kind of disastrous candidate they might come to fall in behind. One thing's for sure: it will be ugly.

Ron Paul has good economic ideas. He rejects the Keynsian model which has been failing for years. Paul favors Austrian economics. If you want to learn about it then "Economics in one lesson" by Henry Hazlitt is a great introduction. It's a short book but very clear.

@stefaz713 The gold standard is good because printing money leads to bubbles and depressions, and while inflation is good but rapid inflation is bad so gold keeps it in check. Its not for the sole purpose of having innate monetary value.

@stefaz713 Ron Paul wants to have competing currencies which is a bit different of gold standard only. Competing currencies is better. Read "What has governament done to our money?", just google it, the book is free from the Mises institute.
