I was listening to Garage Inc today and I thought - "Why does is the production on this sound better than their last 3 albums?" Sort of like when Garage Days came out in 86 and they followed it up with Justice, and the production on that album sucked ass. No bass, shitty guitar tones, ect.  Sometimes I don't get this band. Anyone put on Master of Puppets recently and wonder what happened? Not an issue with material, just the production.

@Lucozade00123 Actually, I wouldn't be running my mouth if I were you either. Lars has (and usually always has) his hi hats so that they "wash". That means when you put the hi hats not exactly on top of eachother, but not a huge space between them. So when you hit them they make a wash type sound. And Lars is using double bass in the vid. If you paid attention to his legs. I am a drummer. Don't try to argue this with me.

Lars is a very good drummer.. Hes on and off, he plays when he feels hes ready and he has on and off days. Theres even an interview where he states this. This day hes fairly off, because some of the other videos, like when they play Slayer, is in the same room and what appears to be the same day and hes not fantastic in any of them, but when lars is on, Hes fucking on like hell!! Lars is amazing, but not all the time, like any musician. Plus, hes an amazing music producer, so whatever.

I do know how being in a band works seeing as I am in one...douche. What would that even have to do with a drummer being talented or not? I love metallica but it's safe to admit lars isn't very good, especially lately. In the 80's and early 90's he at least tried live, evn though he often messed up then. Now he just mails it in and hardly tries. It has nothing to do with flaming, it has to do with reality. you should trying facing it - I'd take truths over lies any day.

mexico city was like 17 years ago. he wasn't the first fast drummer. I'm not saying he, with metallica, didn't help pioneer metal to what it is today - I am saying that he is overrated as a drummer. His chops have never been that impressive and he makes simple mistakes all the time. metallica songs aren't the most difficult to play, even if they are awesome songs. Check out guys like blake richardson and mike mangini if you want to see a drummer who really has "it".

im talking bout latest mexico city dvd, the 09 one. and i know he wasnt the first fast drummer, but he kept the fast rythm in bigger part of the songs, and on ajfa and mop he makes a lot of nice fills, i think lars is a drummer who know what do play when to play, and that what makes him great. he maybe does some mistakes, but only when hes just chilling or jammin im pretty sure.

I think its harsh to say he doesn't try. he admits hes a bad drummer, which is cool (but tbh i think hes a great drummer but thats just me) i think he does try, but hes a music producer first a foremost, and he puts his bandmates and the fans first always, maybe thats why hes got a bit slower over the years. in the 80's he was better (in my opinion) simply because he hadn't grown up yet, and he didn't help produce the songs as much as he does now, he was all about drums.

his voice IS being recorded through the microphone. but there is no amp "making it available to the public". if you noticed, they have those earplugs, which are in fact in-ear-monitors. there are microphones in front of the amps, the drums and for the voice. everything they record is only hearable through these earplugs.

what you hear in the rehearsal videos is the amp outputs and the drums.
