  • The bass makes this song sound SO HUGE and thick

  • Steve Cloutier is by far one of, if not my favorite bassist of all time!!!!

  • they suck, so bad

  • brilliant performance, makes me think of chamber music

  • They're the best example I know of "anti-music" in death metal, something I usually associate more with black metal. Songs on Obscura sound like they're falling apart or collapsing--especially "The Carnal State"

  • @BayouDrank in that way they're sort of like Captain Beefheart's Magic Band

  • steve looks like he is fighting with bass :D

  • huh, i have the same bass as that guy. its an ibanez sr750

  • HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THE GUITARIST IS TOMMY CHONG

  • gorguts are far beyond any metal band these days

  • WOW the quality is a joke

  • goddamn something about shitty amps makes metal that much more savage. fuckin GORGUTS

  • I'm definately a bigger fan of their first two albums

  • Anyone know what kind of bass that is he is playing? The headstock looks like an Ibanez, but the body doesn't seem to match their line.

  • @swwaddell yes it is an ibanez

  • Awesome riffs

  • I love how the bass is playing power chords! You almost never see that in metal! Very innovative thinking, and it sounds much richer and fuller too!

  • haha even Newtube can't capture this rapid playing by those great musicians

  • Wow... nice slap technique

  • SLAP THAT BASS

    lmao

  • The drummer sucks.

  • Can't hear the drummer in this video, genius.

  • @iOGarou i think the drummer is the bassist

  • @NotRly1337 i think the bass is the drums O.o

  • @COOLBIAN57

wel,ur mother is more noise when she gets fuck by 5 boogiemen.shut th fuck up fuck face and go listen to britney spears bitch.

  • @Acent2 Shitty comeback aside, I have to agree with you Acent. xD

  • @COOLBIAN57 you seem like a really lame person

  • holy shit Steve is just a complete genius/monster on his bass... all hail Gorguts XD

  • that bassist is incredible, look at him assaulting that bass, i wish i played like that

  • lol, the video quality is so bad it sounds horrible. I know the music is great though

  • epic

  • How so?

  • that bass sounds like crap lol

  • either that bass is massive or hes a smurf

  • Trois... Quatre... Hehe! Quebecers :)

  • It's the way it's structured that makes it incredible imo.

  • Internet is extremely slow today or this guys are extremely fast??

  • fps fail

  • its funny that i enjoy this far more than the original.

    must be the slap bass~

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, it must be! The slaps make it sound a LOT more violent lol

  • oh sorry ... missed one thing...... the lyrics are also excelent

  • hahahaha i love those guys that say "this is shit" ...... they cant even understand the thechnicshs nor the dynamics of this shit............. this is so god damn hard.... its easier to play fast like "M.A.B or R.C or blah blah blah............." and if youre some one that havnt even listen this song... try to seach for it and then watch this vid youre gonna understand my point

  • THANK YOU. At least you understand that just playing fast, random sweeps nonstop IS NOT TECHNICAL. It's not real tech death if the technicality of the song doesn't come naturally and it has to sound like it isn't tech.

  • Fuck, that bassist is so amazing.

    Its so percussive and badass.

    FUCK

  • Shame they're using bad amps =/

  • nothing will ever compare... this is totality... this is cosmic...

  • How their bassist can do all of his fingerstyle playing while his thumb rests on his pickup amazes me. It's one thing if its basic shit on a thin-necked bass using only 2-3 strings, but he uses all 5 with INCREDIBLE speed. Jealous.

  • does anyone know here what the word "gorguts" means?

  • gorguts = gore + guts

  • guy on right reminds me of Leo from That 70's show

  • That Luc Lemay dumbass

  • No shit sherlock...Aren't you the smartest kid in the bunch!!

  • @gamefreak113456 Hahaha so true

  • @gamefreak113456 Wtf do you mean LEO from that 70's show? Leo is TOMMY CHONG, Epic idle!

  • Yes, there is a reason this video has 5 stars. You can't see the reason because you're clearly not intelligent enough to understand the dynamics and techniques of this song.

  • not Gorguts, or Martyr, but Kataklysm probably are, after sorcery of course

  • This is the Man!!Luc Lemay!!!Hell yeah!!

  • whos this guy on guitar?

  • Luc Lemay

  • LULZ, dude i already told you. . .

  • i know i asked this before i asked you they took more than ten minutes to answer so then i asked you

  • They took longer then ten minutes lULz, that means i a|\/| smrtst!

  • yes you are such a smart puppy

  • NOW GIVE ME A FUCKING COOKIE!

  • here you can have a peanut butter cookie but you have to dip it in hot sauce

  • NO, this was not part of the deal!!!!! i am sueing you, my lawyer CHUCK NORRIS!!

  • oh shit ill see you in court my lawyer will be ice t bitch

  • The judge is Public Enemy, and the Jury is Bruce Lee. I think i have this case.

Mr. Enemy, when someone asks for a cookie, it is implied that there will be no hot sause included. . .

  • ice t would like to object and you never said no hot sauce and mr enemy will take my side cos i got a black lawyer

  • Chuck-"Mr. Enemy, no disrespect, but i would like a different lawyer, so there is no issue of race in this case." *looks at ice t and wispers* "douchebag"

  • ok timmy is the new lawyer and he yells TIMMY!

  • Mr. umm Timmy, i am gl--TIMMY!!, ahh yes i am--TIMMY!! Yes i know your na-- TIMMY!!

  • i think i win this case now beat that

  • Oh yeah *kills chuck* what now bitch!

  • so i win eat it you now have to down the whole thing of hot sauce whatcha gonna do huh eat it and if you can finish it ill give you a chocalate chip cookie with milk(that i took a leak in)

  • funny cos you are my dog douchbag so you just killed yourself dumbass

  • Bitch, then how come i can type?

  • bcuz your ghost is still here huh isnt it? or you were reborn as a keyboard

  • i was reborn the letter a on my keyboard, so sometimes i cant control the keyboard and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • bassist=beast

  • From Wisdom to Hate is a MONSTROUS album

  • I really like tech death but I´m not sure if I like this... mmm maybe is the bass that it really sucks

ha ha I know people is gonna spit on me but I dont care!!

  • now this is what i call beauty in chaos, sounds wonderful, 10 stars/10 stars!

  • Damn that looks hard to play.

  • it ain't that hard.. I learned the song in a single afternoon i just haven't memorized it yet.. it's hard to get used to all the very unusual chords but that's about it

  • Actually yes it is. You just cant handle its complexity, plus the recording quality sucks really bad, on the album its sounds more kickass, plus the drums add to the intensity and makes even more complex for some dumbass(NOT YOU!!) to understand. Thats why he mainstream hate metal, they just cant take its complexity in.

  • Jazz pwns, that is all. besides, i this song kicks some serious ass. I also enjoy the tempo changes Gorguts have in their songs, like most death metal bands, they take insperation from Jazz with Technique, time signutures, tempo changes all that good stuff, this is what makes this band so great, plus if i wanted some insane complexity i would listen to some Cryptopsy, its some good stuff, but if you hated this you would hate that even more.

  • Cryptopsy is a little less weird to be honest. Depends on what you hate about this music..

  • Really? i always thought that they were a bit more erotic(is that even the right word?) like up to "From Wisdom to Hate' Gorguts had a more fluid sounding music, and then it all changed into this awesome sound you hear now.

  • Well it's always been rather weird.. But their 2 first albums were more "clean" yeah ;) Their other "weirdo" album was Obscura..

  • You knew what i was talking about, and yeah i did forget about Obscura, how could i do that?!?!

  • dunno :P

  • Oh, you knew.

  • You obviously have not had enough of most metal. Once you'll get enough, you'll look for something new, which will be something like this.

  • It may sound retarded to some people, but to people that love technical death metal it sounds beautiful. To me it does, so meh. Opinions.

  • actually, I listened to the recorded version and liked it

  • Listen to the album version, not something that was played on practice amps, recorded with a shitty mic and compressed by Youtube.

  • Bass is a rhythmic instrument. Not originally something that is intended for "melody and harmony," although that's what it is used for in much of today's "tech" music. The fact that the bassist is able to keep us very solidly grounded in this song, that moves all over the place, is really amazing.

  • don't agree, bass is for harmony. EVERY INSTRUMENT IS RHYTHMIC DUMB FUCK. HOPE YOU DON'T LISTEN TO ANY MUSIC WHERE AN INSTRUMENT ISN'T UTILIZING ANY TYPE OF RHYTHMIC CONTINUITY!/

  • Well it's nice to see you can argue without personal attacks. If every instrument is a rhythm instrument then why are the drums, and the bass known as "The Rhythm Section" in a band? Bass and drums are meant to keep us grounded rhythmically while the guitarist/pianist/ saxophonist/whatever is playing melody and/or harmony. In this song you can feel that rhythmic push from the bass.

  • they emphasize the rhythm, if all instruments are not on beat, it will sound like crap, thus all instruments are rhythmic. Bass pushes rhythm but has a wide array of pitches available to so support the melody with a HARMONY.

  • You pretty much said what I was saying. "Bass pushes rhythm but has a wide array of pitches available to... support..." melody and harmony, with a melody and/or harmony. That was my point. In it's purest form, though, bass isfor rhythm. Take for example, jazz, or a classical piece, a double bass will be used for keeping time (sometimes more so than drums in jazz) by the other musicians. It's not really a melodic, or harmonic instrument in those early forms of jazz, and classical music.

  • so addicted to meth huh? wanna hook a nigga up?

  • None on me now, but I can get you loads of fun if you're interested.

  • shit bro, I heard that shit fucks you up, I don't wanna go near that stuff. You're crazy bra

  • Bass is not only for keeping time. It's the bass that lays down the harmonic framework for the song while also providing the beat. Even just playing root notes would be harmony...simple, yes, but still providing harmony. Why do you think its a pitched instrument? If it was ONLY rhythm then why the need for pitches?

  • LULZ your such a dumbass. Meth is fun!!!!!!(not)

  • Thanks. You're genius is evident in your clear reading of sarcasm.

  • I am, what about you, where is you lab, has it ever exploded? My god people like you are dumbasses.

  • Yes because a name I created four years ago for a site I frequent is clear and absolute evidence of my mental state, and ripe for deriding.

I'm going to eat my dinner now, feel free to continue making fun of my name... it makes me feel superior to you in every way imaginable. Remember fighting over the internet is like winning the special olympics; even if you win, you're retarded.

  • LULZ, dude, do you not fucking get it, you know what, no. . . just no.

  • LULZ, what are you talking about this is great, did you even look it up on the album the recording makes it sound like shit, otherwise this song is kickass.

  • I love the bass players style

  • that's funny, he does look like Brad Pitt. these guys are amazing, Negativa too.

  • no drum needed.

  • Amazing song.

  • just not feeling their sound, but they are talented.

  • That's a shame, you tried humming along?

  • I didn't like Gorgut's material after Obscura was released, but From Wisdom To Hate grew onto me and now it's one of my most favorite albums by Gorguts along with Erosion of Sanity.

If you don't like their noisier, experimental stuff; check out their albums Considered Dead and Erosion of Sanity.

  • Such skilled musicians deserve better amps...

  • that was from the new converge album right?

  • my poo is from the new converge album

  • this sounds way cooler with no drums or vocals

  • nah, brah. This song originally came out in From Wisdom To Hate.

  • I LOVE the riff a 0.50.

    Fantastic.

  • wow, i'm reading these comments and i'm seeing people use the word dissonance. haa

    =)

  • I can't believe how original and talentful these guys are. They wanted to explore a new way of their guitar, and theydid it so greatly. Hail gorguts, you will never be forgotten

  • I still think Trey Azagthoth is the best guitarist when it comes to true dissonance.

  • hes good but these guys are something else

  • I always hate getting into debates about who's better and who's not, because there are many ways of judging this. You can't just base it on technicality alone. Feeling is the most important aspect in music, I would say. And something with only technicality to fall back on will probably not produce great are.

Having said that, Gorguts do not just have technicality, but let's not juge preference on that criteria alone.

  • that really has nothing to do with what i said

  • lol

  • Trey is fucking awesome. I absolutely love his style of mixing influences by Eddie Van Halen into death metal solos (ex. Where The Slime Live)!

  • this is so amazing it makes me weep. beauty through dissonance... absolute metal gods.

  • It sounds like they're playing this on 15 watt practice amps, terrible. The sound quality not the song itself.

  • that's because they are :)

  • Guys like this are so amazing. So much effort and thought and care goes into this music, and they get little or no recognition. Luc is an great and talented guy, just too bad most people don't realise that.

  • It just unfortunate that Death Metal has a sound that doesn't click with most. Most here stuff like this, and think there's no melody or song writing ability in it, even though there's more song writing and skill in this than what Nickelback or another popular band does. No doubt Luc can out play Kroeger, but trying to prove that to the average person is damn near impossible.

  • Then again, it's good that this music doesn't click with most. It keeps stupid people away from appreciating hard work and great musicianship.

  • A decent musician can enjoy something about any type of music...

  • too awsome :)

  • what kind of bass is he using?

  • I'm almost sure it's an ibanez SR

  • Steve recreated bass in a sense with Gorguts. Before I heard him, I didnt know bassist would/could play chords along with the guitars

  • 1:59 through 3:31 is one of the evilest sounding death metal riffs ever.

  • yeah that part is awesome. in fact the whole song is great

  • god damn they are both so amazing

    I love steve's technique

  • this is pretty different from the Cd version. it gives it a unique sound with the percussiveness of the bass. but still very good. Luc Lemay for life.

  • "it sounds fucking awful." That's only a subjective reason, so that doesn't affect anyone else but to a whining bitch like yourself.

    I agree with TheImpossibleMan.

  • Lemay and co. are mad geniuses. Their music is equal parts technical death metal, noise rock, and avant-garde. Mind-expanding to say the least.

  • G O D S !!!!!

  • Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it's senseless noise...

  • how? how do they do it?

  • That is just too fuckin sick! I didn't realize the bass slaps like that on that song.

  • my faith in death metal that's been gone for years kinda returned after hearing this...

  • ah so delicious

  • if anyone plays the bass as hard and with the same amount of passion, add me as a friend cause im kinda adding up a collection of ppl with really unique styles on my page.

  • you must not be. gorguts fucking slay!!!

  • Gorguts isn't something that's just instantly understood. It takes a lot of patience, but it'll click eventually. That doesn't mean you'll like them, but understanding their creativity is something that's wholly rewarding.

  • its funny the
