yeah i do admit james is good guitar player and backup singer but he could never top billy corgan in singing or guitar playing. i have followed this band for years. they are to this day my favorite of all time. live forever smashing pumpkins
one of my top 3 favorite smashing pumpkins songs. my favorite verse is when he says one more cherry cola to lift up her dead arms. and when he says as she counted the spiders as they crawled up inside her. billy corgan . is awesome.
... a great song indeed, its funny though dat most of their song are played much faster in live shows than the album version, i guess its bout giving people a sense of differences. billy is unique in everyway you see him, he's tall and hunched, stradle his guitar way down low, wears a gothic lookin dress far different than james, sings in a whiny nasal voice almost like b-real of cypress hill, then writes/creates beautiful songs...to sum it all up he is just amazing literally. unique.
I totally agree with you: Billy Corgan mysteriously has an ability to put a lot of beauty, emotion and edge in to his singing that few other have. IMO, he's amazing both live and record. And I'm so tired and bored by the compromising wannabe rockers who copy either Eddie Vedder or someone like him..
in parts he's too close to his mic, but other than that it's a consistent sound really, with sometimes more energy live than recorded... You hardly ever hear the wail on records... i think theres one song on Mellon Collie but i forget which one... If you dont know what I mean, find Heavy Metal Machine or Gossamer... "So let the Bird Fly! AOOOOOOOW!"
seriously dude...fuck lars....there's nothing special about him other then the fact that if was chased by the cops, i'm sure he could outrun them on foot....otherwise, it's the same beat on every song....
i luv both danny carey and jimmy for totally different reasons.they each have there strengths and weaknesses.but lars ulrich is nowhere close to there talent.and im a metallica fan!!!!
The whole thing on lars is 2 me, lars is great 4 metallica, but comparing lars and jimmy, lars lacks style, he's got really simple drumming skills. Jimmy kicks ass but danny carey is my favourite drummer. Great concert this is.
P.S. Is it just me or does Jimmy Chamberlin and Danny Carey look alike.
not to mention Larz is 'learning to unplay the drums', to borrow a great line from Deathclock. lol Seriously, remember the mess of a 'song' called Some Kind of Monster? What a bunch of sellouts.
danny carrey is great, i know both tool and pumpkins very well, and ive seen both drummers at there best live and up close and jimmy is superior in many ways, this is much more noticable live than on cd,jimmy is just too much
Let's not get crazy. Tommy Lee is a DAMN good drummer. Give a little respect. Jimmy to me is just an inch below Peart. Boy I love JImmy. Pumpkins are my favorite band of all time. Second is the CRue so stop hating..lol
Metallica is not a sell out, they're just good. Lars has been a good metaldrummer allthough for the last 10 years he plays crap. His sound, with the fucked up snaredrum doesn't make it any better. Too bad he did that.
As for the other drummers: Jimmy is great, Neil is great, as long as they can keep it together. I love 'em both and it's crap to compare them because both have a different style and both are great at what they do. Having so many different drummers makes drumming fun, dig that :)
Lars is probably one of the worse piles of crap in the music biz today. Both as a drummer and as a person, he is the reason why metallica is a shitty sellout band now. Compareing JC to lars is blasphamy
jimmy is a great drummer, the pumpkins were (and maybe will be again?) a great band and i love em..but jimmy is in no way shape or form the best drummer. lars ulrich could drum better with his eyes closed and using his toes. even sp's guitar work isnt the best, but its not about that..its about the songs
i was obviously saying that to make a point..either way you take it, jimmy's drumming doesnt come close to ulrich or other drumming greats. and as stated before, even the pumpkins guitar work doesnt cut close the work of great bands such as metallica, led zeppelin and others
Lars combines basic drumming with a double bass. Most idiot drummers in metal bands pound away at their double bass without doing much else. Being able to multitask double-bass with actual drumming does signify that Lars has some talent, but his rhythms are basic, unsynchopated, and value speed over technique. I think Jimmy is better.
I do think Jimmy Chamberlin is a great, great drummer, especially cause he's so influenced by jazz...but I have to say Danny Carey is an even better drummer. If you listen to his polyrythmic technique you can see what a drum god he is. Still...LOTS OF KUDOS TO YOU JIMMY!!! :)

James should start a clothing line or something.
Then he could be better at Billy at something.
Besides having more class.

@glassfrehley James is already a better trader than Billy Corgan. It takes a special kind of trader to screw over the man that made you rich.
