  • my life is Styx

  • @leonardodesouzama Hi:) I thought I was the only one.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS

    jd

  • Wow, I'm definitely feeling old. I bought Pieces of Eight when it first came out and was a huge Styx fan back in those days when I was a young teen. Ahhh, I miss the 70's!

  • i saw Styx on Friday..they were awesome!!!!!

  • going to see styx, reo speedwag, and nightranger tomorrow!! cant wait

  • i was there. my first concert (im 15) and i LOVED it!

  • 2:19 The solo's intro is great he sings the first note of the solo

  • Oh yeah about the solo, IDK if Dennis usually plays it live and/or on the track but when I saw 'em James took it. I guess they can both play it, which again is sick for Dennis to be able to do both being such a good singer. Guess that shows you how much talent these guyz have collectively.

  • I saw Styx at grad night at Kings Island back in 1975 just as they were starting to make it big. Still enjoy seeing them!

  • LOVE THiS!!!!!

  • 1:34 hahahah, James Young in his style hahaha. Cool

  • I saw these guyz in Minnesota back in '05 or '06, so ya theyre still goin. It was the first time for me seeing 'em and to me James was actually kind of creepy. Always smiling this huge smile and like gigglin between songs and of course his signature "pansy hip shake" thing and generally feminine movements lol. Anyway wow Dennis just wails in this video, and then he broke out with the solo? To be that sick of a singer and guitar player is just crazy.

  • I just found out that I mixed up the names, I actually don't know the band really well, obviously. I was referring to the singer, who I thought was named Dennis. So with that out of the way, I agree, TOMMY is the one who owns in this video.

  • Dennis DeYoung is the keyboardist. Tommy Shaw is the lead vocals and guitarist on this tune. Just an FYI :-)

  • My bad. I did mix up the names, but my previous points still stand. When I saw 'em live, James played the solo, but TOMMY plays it here, and TOMMY is insane to be that good at playing and singing at the same time, although again, this whole band is really talented. Thanks for the correction.

  • I wish i had a trans am

  • i meant a thunmb up

  • Perfect comment!

  • Saw Styx last Friday night...Gowan & Tommy Shaw know how to rock!!!!

  • jealous!!

  • You are lucky!!! Glad you had a great time!!!

  • immortal styx!!!!

  • James(JY)Young will be 60 November 14th, early HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES. Keep rockin' baby. See ya' next year in ST.Louis.

  • 1978, the economy sucked, I was still in high school, but we had killer rock and roll like this!!!

  • I worked all through High School and got out in 78 as far as the economy I really cant remember it was that bad. Saw styx many times at the L.A. Forum and always a great performance and sounded great LIVE not like these so called groups we have now.

  • I remember my brother standing in a 2 block long line for a Burger Chef job for min wage. Those days were miserable. We are heading back there quickly with our wonderful government determined to see we all "do with less".

  • What "groups" are you referring to? There are still plenty of bands that sound great live.

  • I'm getting ready to see Styx later tonight. Riverside Casino in Riverside, Iowa. Too bad Dennis DeYoung is no longer with them. But that's okay. Tommy Shaw kicks ass!

  • 1:34 ha ha ha

  • They really could deliver it live. Which is not an easy task when you write more ellaborated songs. Those times they seemed to me just an "arena rock" band. Now I understand how good they've been.

  • So much emotion in just a few seconds. 1:53 shows this tremendously.

  • The Crowd seems dead..

  • Quaaludes were popular then...

  • 0:45 AAAHHHH KILROY!!

  • I am a huge Styx fan. They were my first concert. That said, watch the video again, and you will see where he loses it near the end, runs into the barrier, and stumbles back to the band. Party time usually happens AFTER the band is done. Styx is still one of my faves, always will be!

  • styx ftw. Not as hardcore as metallica or rush, but the piano and singing are awesome, along with the beat.

  • amazing video. i hope dennis deyoung comes back soon.... GO STYX!

  • wow, this song is awesome....no computers making the music in this stuff!!!!!....although i love dennis deyoung, this is styx !!!!!!

  • EXCELLENT!

  • camlpg, I totally agree with you. Most of these so called bands today are nothing more than a commercial. With them its not the music, but leading all of their sheepole fans into buying their cheap merchandise. As I always tell my kids these guys, and others like them- Zeppelin, pink Floyd, Van Halen, Deep purple and Hendrix, ect ect. Knew how to write and play music. So many of these groups are still rocking after 30 + years, and yet another generation is discovering them!!!!

  • THis should be the unemployed's theme song. None of these twang-twang bang-bang bands of today can even come close to making a song like this.

A song that challenges the economic status quo, just tells you how controlled our society has become one generation later.

  • the poster song for all of us unemployed people! there are too many of us!!!!

    t (off almost a year)

  • im not a big fan of styx but this song is fucking awsome

  • That sounded really good.

  • this wasn't in 1978...more like 1983 or 1984

  • If Styx had kept pumping out tunes like these past 1979 they would still be a huge force today still with A and M Records.

  • LOL @ 2:18 - the crowd is out of control!!!!

  • they are rocking out in their minds =D

  • ay least by the time the made this JY was starting to get away from the gold Lame pants. When I saw them open for Robin Trower he wore Gold Lame that went down and attached to his like three inch platform shoes which really made TS look like a dwarf running around in tennis shoes. lol

  • Shaw rules. DeYoung inhales cock fumes. End of discussion.

  • Where happiness is only a heartbeat away.

  • I can't wait to see them at the Darke County fair on Aug. 23rd. Too bad Dennis isn't with them but they're still very good.

  • Larry Gowan is incredible! If you haven't seen him yet, you'll be impressed.

That's why the other boys put him in the band.

You gotta trust that they know what they're doing.

  • Yeah, I seen them with Def Leppard and FOreigner back in 2007, but they only got to play for about an hour. I do remember their new keyboardist and singer being very good and also putting on a great show. I just recently discovered they're version of I am the walrus, TOTALLY AWSOME!

  • Chuck Panazzo is so lame-looking. Why is his hair so short?

  • He was the gay one of the band. Kinda the same fashion statement as Rob Halford having short hair back in the day.

  • We all know Styx was/is a great American rock band, but they are one of the most under rated groups in rock history. I put them right up there with Queen as writers, vocalists and musicians. Styx is the Sh*t.

  • Tommy Shaw is the lead singer right?

  • He wrote this song so he sings it. Whoever wrote the song, sings it. Dennis is/was the main lead singer

  • Sorry, but no. They frequently wrote songs for each other to sing. For example, "Lights" was music by DeYoung and lyrics by Shaw (who sang it), and "Borrowed Time" had music by Shaw with lyrics from DeYoung (who sang it).

  • You just confirmed what I had said. The one who wrote the lyrics sang it.

  • Styx does still put on a great show but they have never been the same since DD left. And yes I have been around for their whole career.

  • Picture this 1978, Rented a Lincoln, drove to Montr'eal , and ROCKED to STYX, Three Babes gettin down with all the goods !!! Yeah the 70's We were on top of the World !!

  • its not the seventies as mmuch as the teens whenever you are young,is the best time my old man whose been dead many years would think the 1930,s were the shit,im sure

  • im only 12 years old, and i think they're so awesome that i saw 'em live!

  • I caught Tommy Shaw's and James Young's guiutar picks a few years back...still have 'em.

  • Hope they play this when I see them, anyone know if they currently sound good live ? what about REO speedwagon?.38 Special ?

  • BOTH GOOOD LIVE !!!! especially

STYX ! saw them on arrow rock festival

  • yea i saw them last night. styx was killer and so was reo, but 38 special didnt play tht great

  • i was suppost to see that show in knocti bay at clear lake but the roof of the stage fell six feet and they cancelled the show it was hella gay

  • haha tht sucks. did u get ur money back?

  • STYX I swear is better in concert today than 30 years ago - believe it! saw them at Merriweather last night and they still got it! oh man, I LOVE YOU STYX , Next time I'LL pay to be closer to YOU< YOU GUYS WERE AWESOME I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! still stoked after 24 hours, thank you STYX muahhhhhhhhh

  • dude i was there too they were deffinently better then reo speedwagon

  • I was there, too. There were fabulous. I still miss Dennis DeYoung's vocals, though...

  • This is one of their better songs. I like it better when they rock, and dont puss out. DeYoung is a good singer, but that dude on backup is really bringing the freaky scary sound. There is a great mix of vocals..and yes, this song has eternal subject matter...that poor audience isn't allowed to get up and rock out. Seats on the floor at a rock concert are RIDICULOUS and SOVIET...great lead part, too...cool classic keyboard as well - deep purple style...

  • sucks they were performing at the nokia w/ REO SPEEDWAGON i wanted to see them but didnt have enough funds:[

  • when did luke skywalker go into the music business?

  • In 1972ish. Thanks for noticing.

  • I remember thinking the same thing back in the 70s. I was told that i was to stoned to no the diff.

  • This song still rings true to this day with the shitty economy.

  • 1:34 pure grossness,lol

  • Yeah, I think the bass player's openly gay.

  • i was talkin bout JY's face but now that u mention it,he is like grinding on JY and i hate how he always stands in the same spot and never leaves it for every concert hes in the same spot

  • favorite band to see live

  • Styx, was my first concert ever...I saw them at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum, for their Cornerstone Tour, back in '81. What a great show!! The Babys opened for them!

    Thanks for posting!

    K

  • they're going to be my 1st concert ever too, if you don't count the trans siberian orchestra as a rock band that is.

  • JY looks like he's having a great time lol

  • WOW nice guitar solo ! best band ever

  • Can't Stop watchin his fingers Flyin And The Stx STICKIN IT HIT IT Tommy Shaw!~!! What Else is there to say they are styx The one and Only Original#1`

  • Its cool cuz my dad went to high school and was best friends with the lead singer of Styx. Only reason I know about them.

They are like 25 years older than me haha. (Yeah my pops is old but hes awesome)

  • Hell yea

  • This is one of there best songs ever. Not cheesy like some of the others they have. Great Band...Tommy Shaw rules.

  • The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight..the best Styx albums!!!

  • this song is gonna be on Rockband as DLC next week

  • Have it already. not bad.

  • much better live. saw it friday. sick as HELL

  • Rock on Tommy Shaw. BEST GUITARIST EVER

  • JY's sparkly pants are so cool

  • Damn this bird is hot

  • Kilroy KilledStyx

  • real music...

  • R.I.P. John Ponozzo...Great Drummer who never got the credit he deserved!!

  • john was amazing

  • ahhh....the coked up 80's

  • is this from the movie? i love that movie it rocks, wouldnt it b sad if it happened? lol

  • You're kidding, right? Styx and this song are a HELL of a lot older then that movie. And much better.

  • Tommy has some friends that would kick your ass for putting him down you know...Tommy rocks it, but the bandana things kinda had to go, but he has the vocals right on

  • hey man that was '78, let him wear the bandana.......besides, he's tommy, let him wear what he wants.

  • Tommy looks like a Jane Fonda workout video

  • ha!

(nothing else. you made me laugh - thanks.)

  • tommy shaw you rock man, your awesome

  • I think this is from de film "Killrow was here". Thanks for posting it. Greetings: GZ

  • The audience was still stunned after listening to Mr. Roboto.

  • Tommy Shaw hopped up on Coke couldn't get the audience up and out of their seats! just kidding! This was only a couple of years after the WHO tragedy in Cincinnati. Alot of places went from festival seating to reserved seating as well as beefed up security so this caused alot of concert goers not to move when they went to shows and just sit and watch the shows.

  • Tommy does look a little ripped. I would be too if I had to do the kilroy tour! He still performs though!

  • Who cares!! The music is awesome and the vocals rock! These guys were often corny but they were really good and excellent musicians..

  • Styx performing live for mannequins or a free North Korean concert, you decide lol

  • Taht was a messed up audience, this song is the bomb yet they sith there like they're listening to some crap the Jonas Brothers

  • Great song and video. I did see a few people trying to keep time with it. Definately not an American audience.

  • yes this is an american crowd!

  • Thanks v much 4 the posting!! Altho this is 1of my alltime favorites, I had never seen this, nor in fact any other, concert performance of it! Of course we were poor and could afford neither concerts nor cable! I recall first listening to Blue Collar Man on my way to run in the 1978 PA XC championships!

  • Was this a commerical for NyQuil and how well it works, or did they find the worlds most boring people and give them free concert tickets, These guys are rocking their ass off and the audience looks like its a parapalegic conference.. I wish I could have been there!

  • probably a Canadian audience.....I'm so ashamed.

  • Well I've been to dozens of concerts here in Canada and if anyone's in their seats, they're standing on them. Otherwise squished against the stage. There must have been some strict rules goin on here.

  • i miss all the other videos, please upload the again!

  • so go to bed little kid...

  • i know my parents like melt when they here these songs imalso crazy for them and im only 9

  • These peeps are awesome

  • yeah i saw them with Boston in Chicago back in july! it was crazy! my parents grew up listening to these guys they ROCK!

  • What do you mean, weiner? They DID have talent! They had four really good albums (all in a row), and lots of others.

  • These older bands are so much better than almost anything that comes out these days

  • Got that right

  • Comment removed

  • I would guess it was a charity event and everyone in there was handicapped...otherwise they would have been going properly nuts.

  • thanks for great video:)

  • I saw them on august 1st or something like that....at meadowbrook with boston It was amazing!

  • that audience is a bunch of db's for just sitting there-why wouldn't you be standing up?answer me that!

  • agreed again

  • holy crap what's up with the audience,i would be standing up cheering if i were there,no one is standing up,even at the end!!!

  • agreed

  • I could not (WOULD NOT) just sit there while Tommy is singing and playing his heart out!! I'd be on my feet...up in the air to see these guys play live!! Styx rocks forever!!!

  • I saw them live!!!

  • Look at em, they're playing they're asses off and the audience just sits there like a bunch of zombies. I think I saw someone actually stand up there at the end.

  • James Young looks kinda like your creepy uncle that your mom always warned you not to be alone in a room with.

  • Great song i was singing along with to it

  • the name is dennis deyoung

  • shoulder pads rules!!!!

  • Brilliant Rock song. One of my all time favs. Feirce keyboards by DeYoung! High Votage guitars by Shaw.

  • I saw them on August 15th. Shaw still sounds the same, and he seems really nice. Sadly, it was the first show that J Young missed since 1972, 'cause his wife needed surgery. My mom got a drumstick, too.

  • i saw these guys in Detroit this year with REO speedwagon and def leppard what a show.

  • this audience sucks there sitting there w/ there thumbs in there asses ,,,get up and rock hard what a waste of tickets

  • Both Tommy Shaw and Dennis Young are great guitarists. And Dennis DeYoung is an amazing piano player, i love this band!

  • Woops, you said Dennis Young instead of James Young. Confused me for a second.

  • That's an afflicted dance Shaw does at the end. I'm seeing them on Friday!

  • Tommy's got the headband and leather pants typical 80's garb.

  • i just saw them and this was the opening song

  • wouldnt all bands be blue collar

  • hell no!! do you even know what Blue collar means?

  • ROCK ON!!!

  • Dennis DeYoung always mentioned that the band was from Chicago during shows...to the point, one of my all time favorites

  • tommy shaw was the best part of this band

  • this need to be on guitar hero world tour

  • I once liked this version of the song better than the studio version but now I like them both the same.

  • ur a dumb a**

  • where are the styx from

  • You do realize that you could look that up on EVERY search engine on the internet.

  • david spade
