I would love to mess around with one of those to try and see what kinds of sounds I can make out of it. I like messing around with instruments I don't know how to play, lol.
Damn... that doesn't look easy... I never imagined there were pedals!!! :O I'm quite impressed!!!! I always thought it was just like playing guitar with a slide... :-o Now I respect even more the pedal steel guitar player!!!!! Hats off!!!!
I am set on getting a real parsons white b string bender telecaster b/c as much as I love Pedal steel I think It must be really hard to become adapt at it even if you are a good guitarist with top slide and string bending chops .
I noticed when he pushed down on one of the pedals, (at around 1:12) in the video, that another one moved on its own. I was just wondering why does it do that, and what would be the result of that other than changing the pitch ?
Sorry to bother. I'd like so much to know how that sweeet "slow attack" effect is achieved on the ped steel. Is it a stompbox effect or is comething "inside" the instrument? Thanks a lot, I appreciate.
Okay if you like this then you will SLOVE Robert Randolph!!! Robert Randolph is THE BEST pedal steel guitarist I have ever heard! He just came out with a new CD a few days ago and it’s AMAZING! His solos of him rocking out are to die for! When I listen to his music, I can really feel every note and there aren’t too many artists I can say that about! Check him out!
I find that w/the "Day" set-up, it's just easier to rock your foot from the inside (ball of the foot) instead of rocking from the outside (little toe)........
@Rodoriffic I always liked Jimmy's setup from Day one. It is easier. That's what I played except I used a RR knee for the third pedal. If nothing else it gives steel sit-in's a cause to pause. LOL Most can't play the Day setup. Jimmy could play both setups so it wasn't like he was locked in with one setup like me.
does the lap steel work basicly the same standing up? I was watching this one band and at the concert the one guitarist switched over to the lap steel for one part and just stayed standing.
I see you use the `Day` set-up on the front neck. I have always used `Emmons`. I guess it's something you get familiar with. Then, again, you play `Universal` with, I'm assuming, the `Newman` set-up. I love the simplicity of the instrument.
@TheHeidiGame you do do you they are expensive mor than a regular guitar
if you get one try for a pro model not student modle because student models only usually com with 3 pedals and one knee lever you will outgrow it very soon get one with 3 pedals and 2 knee levers and start on that
@terrorskinflanders not as compicated as you might think just patience and decation to the instrument at first the Pedal steel ownes you then as you progress
you will own it it is a very intimidating instrument Reverbie65
@eamonosu it's like having a tremelo arm for every string...makes the greatest sound though. You can get something similar on a regular guitar using a swell pedal and reverb..you probably know this already

is this easier than playing a regular guitar i have a dissablity and my hands are week this looks like a cool new hobby for me

@86tcc
Any instrument is easy to play, if you do it poorly.
Any instrument is hard to really master.
If you're right handed and your left hand is the weak one, this could be your instrument.

@eamonosu lapsteel is with a bottleneck ^^ you play it on your lap xD
biggel05 1 year ago
no it is harder than that have to master 4 things first to get to any level of
profiencey vou volume pedal takes the longest bar hand control and right hand
picking and blocking dont be discourged at fist it takes a while to master it just does
not come overnight then you might take to it like a duck to water good luckReverbie65
