  • placed into my playlist of El Greco, thanks

  • well presented

  • The movie El Greco was an awesome movie about a painters freedom of expression and how he saw the Spanish inquisition no matter the penalty of being burned alive.

  • youTube : greek metaphysical

  • Dimitris Milionis

  • Greco wasnt what the Turks called Greeks .lol its the Latin way of saying Greeks yes we are Hellenes but the reason we are called Greeks in English is because of the Latins called us Greco through history, Turks never called us Grecos.. they called us Yunan or Yunanistan

  • well,u should not laugh though, its been ten years i have seen it,and i was impressed about it,i remember my teacher saying that they should call hellas and not greek,i already knew about yunan, and yunani, its the same in arab too

  • also propably my teacher wanted to say that e graiko became a bad word between turks, like when we call a gipshy or an albanese or whatever

  • no man .. he probably misunderstood that or something .. to Turks we are yunanistan.. we are from Younan just like arabs call me Younani or Obrossi.. cause im half Cypriot but anyway thats besides the point we are Hellas but Latins called us Greci hense why he is called El-greco cause spain is a Latin speaking country.. yasou

  • You are right Greece is Unannistan and the Greeks are Unanni, which is derived from the Greek word Ionian!

  • i just saw the new movie of l greco, and i am impressed...even though the film was low budget. was really cool..but i have learnt more about him i just knew the name el greco, but never knew exactly what he is!i saw a comment about the word greco i red somwhere that is a turk word, turks used to call (while we were under turkish bond),as grekos meaning dirt, filthy people, the true word for us is hellinas ,hellas,it was just a small info:-)

  • To be honest, i didnt like El Grecos paintings until i saw the best of his paintings in Prado - Spain.

He is really unique and great painter, his colours, his themes, his whole art is great, and the paintings are huge, really enjoy watching them.

I dare to say that his paintings are unnique through Prado.

  • I'm surprised this is the only El Greco slideshow on YouTube. Of course I guess most vids are reserved for idiots trying to be funny. Great vid!

  • fantastic painter

  • Could you imagine what he could've painted if he lived in the 1800s or later. He could've done so much more than just religious pictures.

  • yes, it's a pitty..my friends are laughing at me cause i have 2 big posters of el greco on the walls of my room and say that i am a very religious person and i am not even a christian!

although,el greco made studies beside Titsiano, an other great painter so we don't know if he had an opportunity like that in 1800...

  • Do you mean, Titian? Plus, I'm sure you agree, there's nothing wrong w/ his religious works. Just a shame he lived in a time where artists lived off of patronage and commissions.

  • yes, titian is the guy(sorry for my bad english)!

weel i'm proud 'cause i will travel to spain next summer and i'll go in toledo too!

  • Hopefully you can see, "The Burial of Count Orgaz" in their church. I hope someday I'll be able to see it too. It's nice to know that some of his works are still in churches.

  • he wouldn't have been el greco. :) at least how we know him today

  • Bravo my friend ! El (for Spanish), Greco (for Italian), Theotokopoulos (for Greeks). He, now, belongs to World Human Race !

  • In the 16th century, the word "greco" was the western latin word for "greek" (in portuguese, spanish and italian) but now is "griego", and sounds similar.

  • @JRDL1981

Thank ypu my (far away) friend ! It was something that i didn't knew ! Thanks again from Greece !

  • I am glad to be useful in this subject.

In fact the sustantive for "greek" in a lot of western languages, has its own origin form an ancient latin loanword for "cretan" (in this moment I do not remember the exact word) but at least in literature sometimes the spanish-speaking peaple use the words "heleno" o "helénico" that are in fact very similar to "helliniki", the original word that the greek-speaking people give to themselve.

    Far well "mi amigo helénico"

  • beautiful.
