Wow some ppl are so fucked up and messed up. There is risk every day. Look at the figures on deaths in the USA. More ppl die from bizarre household accidents then murder. The figures for race car driving are small. There is risk in everything we do, walking down the streets, doing home repairs, driving to pick up your kids, cancer. He does not put himself at any more risk then just living day to day as a race car driver. This is a tragedy and a shock. Much love to his wife and kids.
i was there... it was just horrible. it felt dream like... something you couldn't believe. RIP Dan, he's a true legend and his legacy lives on... he wasn't even supposed to be in the race, he wanted to be in it. true hero. the track also wasn't designed for that kind of setup.
@DailyTerror666 you sir are disrespectful. he didnt pay to die. he didnt get what he deserved nor did he ask this on himself. you must be ignorant of the situation.
Too many cars on too short a track travelling too fast that made the race a lot more perilous than should 'sensibly' be allowed..causing a horrible accident & the death of a great driver.. Rest In Peace Dan Wheldon & deepest sympathy for his family & friends, my thoughts & wishes go out to you all at such an awful time. I am so upset to hear this tragic & avoidable dangerous race ending this way. Peace !! Rx
Either re-engineer the track,or require speed limiters when running Indy cars there. Right now this track is more properly suitable to NASCAR vehicles.
Bath tubs on wheels...bing! Or maybe his flexibility not so good? 800, 000 chidren are missing each year and bing likes to encourage more. So, some rich guy who had more in his time than most in a life time. It's too bad, but there is worse.
The idiot safety manager is to blame for letting them run on that track. Too many cars on too fast of a track. Too short as well. It's only 1.5 miles yet they run flat out? 34 cars? WTF??? This was predictable. It was also pretty stupid to put emotionally distraught drivers back in the cockpit for the 5 lap tribute. Had there been another crash from a simple mistake, it would have set the sport back even further.

@Muzzy337 There was actually 44 cars that were in the race.... Too many.... and the 5 lap tribute wasn't at racing speed, they just drove slow.

@MassillonJoe There were 34 cars entered. Still too many for a 1.5 mile banked oval..
