Thanks for the top vid will try this way in future. Suggestion, try setting your video camera for youtube vids to record in lower quality to begin with, or convert b4 upload. I know you uploaded into lower quality with the youtube conversion, but I assume those pesky lines have come up even when you play it at home. It's a problem with good cameras I've had myself. You can use splash player lite to play your high quality vids you want to keep at home. Hope this helped you in return for your vid
Thank you very much. That was an excellent tutorial. I caught my first flathead today (Caloundra QLD). And now I am going to fillet it and devour it.!!. Thanks again.
Very nice filleting. My technique is almost exact to how you've shown. People who ask, why skin it?, Simple - crumb and fry it. If you've never had battered flatty tails before, you're missing out.
Brother just speared an 87cm monster! can't fillet it like this because it's too difficult to cut through the bones running up the back. So he's taking to it with an axe and hammer :D
not absoultely essential but just makes it easier. cuz you still have to scale it and thats a bitch when you have alot of fish. i find its just cleaner to skin it
That's a descent sized flathead you got there mate!

Why do people call them flathead tails when clearly it's the body you eat, not the tail?

I take it that removing the skin isn't essential? As in, if you were going to bake it, panfry it or cook it on hotcoals.
subasurf 2 years ago
No need to skin it if you don't want. Is easier to fry without the skin as the skin shrinks when cooked and distorts the shape of the fillet

I just remove the head and guts and cook it whole.
You pick the meat off the bones so none gets wasted.
But your way is better for little kids.
