Thanks for sharing that vintage commercial about this Mattel gun - it brings back a lot of memory. I remember mine, I also had a matching six-shooter. The bullets had a metal casing with a small spring that would should the plastic bullet about 10~15 ft if I remember well. It was very realistic, for a kid that is, and was my treasure toy.
@lancelot1953 Glad you liked the clip, I had a lot of these toys too but they were sort of hand me downs, I caught the tail end of it all being born in '61
@marshalt Wow this post brings back a ton of memories. I'm 56 yrs. old . and I owned the SHOOTIN SHELL WINCHESTER, They also made my favorite , a clip fed German Luger it held 8 shots These were excelant plastic repro . It was amazing to me that they could get the knee action of the toggle on the Luger to work . The shells wre made of plastic and they worked by pushing the bullet into the case witch compressed a spring and held inplace with 2 hooksThe hammer hit the case=POW!
Man, I wish I was born during the 50s. You would have realistic, cheap, AWESOME cap guns. Now, you would be arrested for taking one of those out in public.
What's it mean safe shooting? It shoots bullets with gunpowder (albeit small ammounts of gunpowder so it doesn't go very fast) but you see it is enough force to both launch the bullet and eject the cartridge! This could seriously injur someone like a bb gun!
@BankaiIchigo12345 no it couldn't injure you like a B B gun......they were usually plastic bullet heads that you snapped on to a spring loaded shell, the force of the guns hammer jarring the shell caused the plastic bullett to dislodge..... he caps (gun powder) was used just for the sound.... they had nothing too do with propelling the bullet.......you could shoot someone in the head with these all day and the only thing they'd die from is bordom
i find it funny how these days parents and government dont like this stuff even though the let kids buy video games where you use guns and shoot at people and have thier head blow up into 68 shades of red
@spenspen99 this was back when America wasn't full of hippies/ girly men. now our country is so up-the-wazoo with laws and regulations regarding "glorification of guns" that they barley sell anything this awesome anymore. the closest thing you can get to it is a red rider bb gun.
The fact that toy guns have to have orange tips and be all sort of funny colours, that in my nation full auto BB guns are restricted weapons that rquire special licensing and security says something about our society. That our police are so aggressive, out of control and confrontational to the point where they look for any opportunity to whip their (real guns) out and shoot someone 60 times. Yet no one ever questions police culture; they just propose banning toys.
Back in the day when toys were cheap and AMAZINGLY high quality, not like today when everything is made in china, not that I have anything against them or anything, but I am tired of cheap plastic toys.
if they released one of these today the company would be ued for all they got and moms would start complaining that it's "to violent and kids will start thinking it's ok to kill" when honestly kids arn't that stupid and hell they can rip people apart limb by limb in video games.
To every one who remembers back in the day. It was not that long ago (in the 80's) when toy gun STILL looked like guns, all black and not orange tip at the barrel. I remember playing with cap guns in my youth in the 70's playing war or cowboys & indians those were good times. Today all the toy guns are bright colors, orange caped end, no ads and all the lawmakers want to do is ban all toy guns including water guns (which don't look like anything a real gun). sad sad.
@andyalpha68 dude those were the good ol days to play, now kids these days and us have similar things and thats airsoft, but those as i call them were the very early first airsoft guns i still miss those old guns they should bring them back
i know that when i am of the age to have children i am not going to give them the modern crap. i will be giving them some real toys. politically incorrect ones like cap guns, toy knives, stuff to play "cowboys and Indians" with. not this safety foam coated crap they sell these days.
cap guns are cool
