Meaning that since this song is a dubstep of a Zelda bgm and there are multiple lyrical references to computes and video games, it's 'nerdcore', as nerd is defined as an individual with high intellect that is enthusiastic about computers, games, and intellectual or academic pursuits. I don't know how 'core' is inappropriate given all this.

@GaaranoJo That would be right if it were "nerd core". Making a new word with -core as the ending is done as a derivation of the word hardcore. This is especially seen in music where you get grindcore, metalcore, mathcore, deathcore, etc. All of which are mergers of the respective genre and hardcore. Hardcore is the sub-genre of punk that usually features fast, heavy beats and yelling vocals with socially uprooting lyrics. This "nerdcore" has nothing that resembles hardcore.

@KrunchyGoodness Historically, you're not correct. Hardcore was first used in 1936 but Punk did not exist until 1970. And even if we accept that hardcore was a portmanteau first generated to describe a genre of punk music, it's feasible to think that it was created to mean the "the essence of punk that is harder (relative to the rest of punk as a musical genre)" being that "core" is still used correctly in traditional English. But that's not the case, thus nerdcore is valid.
