i don't care as long as they pick up a top 20 forward in the league give kessel and young kids someone to work with.....kadri will be up there. hope for a better season next year i think it will happen
I think the Leafs need a player to center the Phil Kessel line. Tomas Plekanec should be a good fit. Althought Patrick Marleau is probably a better player overall then Plekanec is, his price is way too high!
Goaltender for sure, it just seems like when you watch Gustavsson, you are always waiting for him to give up "That" goal, that always ends in a loss for us, and Giguere, well, forget him, a good goalie for us? Someone like not super old, but has experience between the posts, someone like Vokoun, I could really see being a Leaf, or am I crazy.
the leafs need Pavel Datsyuk. because thats the only way they can at least keep the puck out of their net. And hope to get offensive production. Just kidding. they have no chance seen how we have him the next 5 years. But they need more offense..and i highly doubt marleau will sign with the leafs.
id trade grabo and bozak for ryan malone and a draft pick to play wing next to kessel and kulemin...or instead of maline then loui erikkson ot 1 of the staal forwards
Kulemin is playing great, he is in the second best forward on the team, and when he gets anough time oh baby he can put up the points. I hope next year he remains on the first line with kessel and a good center.
the leafs need someone that can score a few goals...right now their young crew doesnt really have that together when the time counts, they need someone with sublime finish and puck movement. Ideally I would have said Ilya Kovalchuk but that seems like a pipe dream.
Patrick Marleau would be another great choice....or Alexander Frolov from the Kings. and on defense, if the leafs get rid of Kaberle...they should pursue Sergei Gonchar.
@jpwns360, I believe that Schenn will be a future star but at this time he is not a top 4 dman on too many NHL teams. He is very marketable but he had a bad season and the offers that would come in for him would not be good enough.
@go4a24 While I agree that he has potential, the Leafs have potential already. How much potential? That's up for debate. What they need now are proven guys in the 27-31 age range
I mentioned Schremp because I think he could be a steal right now. I don't believe theres a position on this team that needs to be filled, I believe its a character trait. What a team like this needs is a Gary Roberts type that will play hard and grab you by the throat if you're not. Being that there is no comparison to him my pick, in your age range, Alexandre Burrows. And hire Gary Roberts as one of the trainers.
The leafs desparately need to fill the number 1 centre spot. Who they put there is the big question. Kadri may be there eventually but I wouldn't want to rush him into it. Grabo and Bozak are not quite that high caliber either. They are pretty good #2 centres but no more.
Belfour was the best.. he litterally STOLE round 1 against Ottawa a few years back.. though I don't think it was that bad to see him get bought out.. I mean Belfours back problems were adding up, he didn't really play that well either..
i don't really want to say this but i think the worst deal the leafs have done in the past few years was the Kessel trade! we could of had a first round pick!
I've said this before, and I'll say it again...if you ask 29 GM's if they would take Kessel or one of Hall or Seguin, they all take one of the junior players.....tell them they can have an additional first round pick and a second, and they laugh hysterically...and take the deal.
That's right, Burke would not have made this trade if he knew Toronto were going to do so lousy. It is easy for people to say that it was a bad trade now but if the Leafs had finished in the top 10 this would have been considered a pretty good trade
question: who in their right mind thought for even a second that the Leafs would end up in the top 10?
I'll tell you one guy that didn't: the GM of the Bruins.
And no...2 first-rounders and a second is way too much for Kessel...no matter where your team finishes....you build through the draft...you don't trade your #1 picks away for a Kessel-type of player.
Boston is not going to get Seguin or Hall. What do you classify a "Kessel-type player" a 22 year old 30 - 40 goal scorer. There is no certainty that Boston will walk away with a better player then Kessel When the deal was made I said the same thing everybody else was saying, that's a steep price especially since at the time of the trade Kessel was injured but he has produced. I think what you are going to see soon is a lot of the cellar dwellars testing out their farm players
Would you like to make a small wager on who Boston gets in this upcoming draft? It will be one of the 2 guy's I mentioned...unless they are real unlucky and lose out on the lottery and get the 3rd pick...I'll also bet you that Hall will be a dominant player in the league 3 or 4 years from now.
Kessel is a pure goal scorer - but that is it...no defense, and his passing is sub-par..plus, for a trigger-man, he needs to work on his one-timer. That deal Burke made would have made sense for a player like Getzlaf, Nash or Eric Staal...but not Kessel.
Toronto would not have been able to get any of those players for the same deal, when it was made. Even now I would think it would be a hard sell because they would want one of those top two picks.
They wouldn't be able to get anyone of those players because they are all signed long-term...but those types of players are the ones who are worth what the Leafs paid for Kessel.
Under the same circumstances, the Leafs still would not be able to get any of those players for what they gave up for Kessel. Are you saying that If you were Anaheims GM, you would trade Getlaf to Toronto for a full season for 2 first rounds and a second round pick? Not knowing if the Leafs are going to make the playoffs or not? There are not too many other people out there that would make that deal. I would want blue chip prospects or GUARANTEED high draft picks at least.
That isn't the point...the Boston Gm didn't want to trade Kessel; he had to because Kessel demanded a trade...those are the circumstances that made him a Leaf...if one of the players I mentioned held a gun to their GM"s head like that, they would be forced to deal him away in the same manner..and everyone but you and Brian Burke knew the Leafs weren't going to make the playoffs this season....Peter Cirelli even said they thought the Leaf pick would be very high - that is why they made the deal.
Kessel was to become a RFA, Boston was not going to be able to keep him unless Kessel signed for less to stay there, significantly less. Even if I have a skilled player that "held a gun to my head" saying that he wanted to be traded I wouldn't give him away. Peter Chiarelli may have thought that Toronto was going to do poorly but I don't believe he stated it until recently. The Leafs outplayed their opponents in many of their losses but lost due to poor goaltending
You've missed my point entirely....but it doesn't matter...I am done with this conversation...you seem to be quite happy with this shit team, and the horrible future that Brian Burke has put it on...I have seen enough...teams with a strong public support system rely on naive fans to follow them w/o question...but I am done with the Leafs...it is after all, only a hockey team..not a country.
I haven't missed your points, you just keep changing your points as I prove the prior ones wrong. I am not happy with the current state of the team however I know it's not Burke's fault. I did not like the Kessel trade when it was made because he was injured at the time and I was concerned that the injury would not heal properly, but it did and Kessel has been great. I do not like the deal now because it could end up being very early picks but as a whole, I like the job Burke has done
CENTRE = PLEKANEC and even JOKINEN if that would be a good fit. Everyone says Marleau wont come play for Ron Wilson again but damn if the leafs get him i'd be one happy camper! Also, if Burke decides just to get one player and possibly strap the leafs financially for the next gazillion years i wont mind if that player is Ilya KovalchuK!!!!! Big fan of his game, and he is a threat, can you imagine if we get him for next year, Kov,Kess, Kadri, Bozak, Kaberle, Schenn Phanuef, Giggy, n now Gunnar!
winger, zach parise. i know it has to be believable but what other options do we have! I'm pretty sure kessel's a natural centre.. i cant remember but For parise i could see kaberle, grabo and wallin going... probably more too
haha, the Leafs chances of getting Parise are so low...Kessel, Kaberle and Schenn/Kadri....maybe. Every other Leaf either doesn't have any value or has a ridiculous contract
I'm bad at telling what is and isn't sarcasm online....but...Myers, Bogosian, Doughty, Kane, Tavares, Stamkos, Kane, Duchene, Hedman...all players from the last two drafts with considerably highertrade value than Schenn and Filatov, Hodgson, Pietrangelo, Cowen, Paajarvi-Svensson and Brayden Schenn probably have similar or better value
@RhoadsLivesOn first of all you said kane twice and second of all schenn is a top 4 defenseman on at least 25 teams and is one of the games future stars
My bad on saying Kane twice....but both Kanes have higher trade value than Schenn (wrong draft year for Pat Kane though). Since when does being a top 4 dman mean that a played has a high trade value?....Brian Campbell is also a top 4 dman and a very good one at that....yet his trade value isn't that good.
When was the last time leafs were good like 5 in conference 2 in division type not 8th seeded conference that sucks. And what did they do to suck sure it was in the 70's
One position I want added to is defense. And by that I mean I hope Burke does not trade away Kaberle. A 6 man unit of Kaberle, Phaneuf, Beauchemin, Komisarek, Schenn, and Gunnarsson should be the best one through six unit in the league. Sticking with defense, I hope Burke gives Van Ryn another chance and signs him to a small one year deal of some sort.
I want alot of Defenceman out of here... Finger Exelby Van Ryn will be done after this season... Resign Kulemin Add a Savard like center, Kessel would be great If he has a good Centermen..
got a top young forward thats kind of under the radar - James Neal on Dallas, maybe, he's set to be an rfa at the end of the season, If Neiwendyk decids not to sign him...
then i think the leafs should take a shot at MARLEAU to play left wing along side of JEFF CARTER and KESSEL, how sick would that first line be? I personally think it would be highly realistic if we can move KABERLE to phili for CARTER. The lines would then looks something like this for next year.
Marleau Carter Kessel
Kulemin Bozak Kadri?
Stahlberg Grabo Sjostrom
Caputi Hason Orr
Not too bad especially with the teams solid defence as schenn is getting older and more mature and komo will be bac
TBH idc whether its a winger or centre but a top 6 forward. I have faith in Grabo and Kulemin. They are good players and I feel they have earned a spot in the top 6. Then we also have Kessel and Bozak.
Then Kadri is coming up, so IMO we should spend watever it takes to get kovalchuk. Then we have a top 6 that doesnt look 2 terrible.
He does that alot but not even close to 90 % of the time. Last night was a good example of his play. He was making good passes, and was forchecking hard, and was skating really well. He also set up the OT winner all of this after sitting with an injury for 2 months. The guy has got talent he just needs to play smarter. he has showed signs of brilliance while at the same time selfish play. However if he plays the way he did last night every night then he is defiantly a top 6 forward.
I think that the leafs should try and pull off a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers and bring in Center JEFF CARTER for KABERLE, CHRIS DIDOMENICO and a goalie or a draft pick at the most. Carter was almost on his way to toronto a number of years ago and I think he would be a nice fit. Big guy who is a natural goal scorer as well can make plays. The deal would work well for both teams.
Goal-tending is excellent right now. We have a veteran goalie with a Stanley cup working under his old coach with a very promising prospect learning the NHL game from the same coach with a perfect role model. The defense is solid. What the leafs DESPERATELY need is one or two top six NHL quality forwards with an NHL quality shot. While a centre would be nice, really we just need two forwards who can pass, who are fast, and who can put the puck exactly where they want to every time.
It's not completely realistic, but I would like to see the leafs sign Tomas Pleckanic and if he comes back to the NHL next season like I think he will. Jagr would look good next to Pleckanic.
Leafs sorely need another top 6 forward via a Centre (Marleau Plekanec maybe even Kovalchuk) yes im aware Ilya is a not a centre but would compliment Kessel and Bozak. a Solid and i mean SOLID goalie (looks like Gustavsson but who knows) and top 2 way grinder (an Ethan Moreau or John Madden would be nice) but i think Mike Fisher is "unrealilistic". Cheers Steve :)
Pretty good game, they had sooo many chances right in front of Thomas but just couldnt seem to put the puck in,if some of those went our way the score woulda been more like Leafs 5-Bos3 no overtime. I would have to say we need a solid forward up there, doesnt have to be a huge goalscorer but atleast consistent...something were lacking. Im really liking Bozak right now,
Hah, I was thinking the game title would be Luca Ca-Beauty, but I thought it was kinda weird considering it was a 'garbage' goal he scored (but I guess he played well =])
I'm not even gonna speculate on which players should be brought in, because I have confidence in Burke, after all, he's made the Toronto D (on paper) one of the best defensive corps in the league, but we do need a couple of bonafide players to go with Kessel to have a strong 1st line, because I think we already have the rest of the roster filled in fine.
So happy Luca scored his 1st goal, and that Kulemin won it for us in o/t.
Hey, Steve! Awesome video as usual. I think the goaltending situation still needs to be stabilized but can;t complain about it right now. However, I really wish we could have Ian White back because he did add a little bit of offensive spice...and he always worked his butt off to be on this team every year. That's the kind of guy with heart that we need. Great defensive skills, saving goals so many times, and putting in the odd goal when you need it. I say Ian White on D.
i don't care as long as they pick up a top 20 forward in the league give kessel and young kids someone to work with.....kadri will be up there. hope for a better season next year i think it will happen

Since when does being a top 4 dman mean that a played has a high trade value?....Brian Campbell is also a top 4 dman and a very good one at that....yet his trade value isn't that good.

@RhoadsLivesOn im going have to disagree on evander kane. imo he does not have schenns trade value

When was the last time leafs were good like 5 in conference 2 in division type not 8th seeded conference that sucks. And what did they do to suck sure it was in the 70's
SlimLPShady 1 year ago
@SlimLPShady Like 2002-2003

Wow I remember 2002-2003 season But i thought they were like 8th seeded. Ohh, K cool not that bad.

One position I want added to is defense. And by that I mean I hope Burke does not trade away Kaberle. A 6 man unit of Kaberle, Phaneuf, Beauchemin, Komisarek, Schenn, and Gunnarsson should be the best one through six unit in the league. Sticking with defense, I hope Burke gives Van Ryn another chance and signs him to a small one year deal of some sort.
tmlShady 1 year ago
I want alot of Defenceman out of here... Finger Exelby Van Ryn will be done after this season... Resign Kulemin Add a Savard like center, Kessel would be great If he has a good Centermen..

But hey Leaf-fans, now you got Gustavsson! You don't have to worry about that spot for 6-7 years or something! Unless...

got a top young forward thats kind of under the radar - James Neal on Dallas, maybe, he's set to be an rfa at the end of the season, If Neiwendyk decids not to sign him...

Bergeron the olympian.....errrr yeah. The guy was ATROCIOUS all tournament. "He's a real defensive zone face-off specialist....aaaaand he loses it."
CoheedMars90 1 year ago
I think Marleau's a UFA next year. We should sign him.
Samsasrenjet 1 year ago
@samsasrenjet
ya i think Marleau would really help kessel
IISK8RII 1 year ago
then i think the leafs should take a shot at MARLEAU to play left wing along side of JEFF CARTER and KESSEL, how sick would that first line be? I personally think it would be highly realistic if we can move KABERLE to phili for CARTER. The lines would then looks something like this for next year.
Marleau Carter Kessel
Kulemin Bozak Kadri?
Stahlberg Grabo Sjostrom
Caputi Hason Orr
Not too bad especially with the teams solid defence as schenn is getting older and more mature and komo will be bac
mattsmith34888 1 year ago
TBH idc whether its a winger or centre but a top 6 forward. I have faith in Grabo and Kulemin. They are good players and I feel they have earned a spot in the top 6. Then we also have Kessel and Bozak.
Then Kadri is coming up, so IMO we should spend watever it takes to get kovalchuk. Then we have a top 6 that doesnt look 2 terrible.
Kulemin-Bozak-Kessel
Kovalchuk-Grabovski-Kadri
jayvardy 1 year ago
kovalchuck wouldnt ever be on the second line
mattsmith34888 1 year ago
neither of those 2 lines are a distinct number 1 or 2, they basically would get equal minutes.
jayvardy 1 year ago
Grabovski has hardly earned a top 6 role with the way he tries to one man his way into the zone 90% of the time.
Zxceelxuz 1 year ago
lol, agreed
shangtsung24 1 year ago
He does that alot but not even close to 90 % of the time. Last night was a good example of his play. He was making good passes, and was forchecking hard, and was skating really well. He also set up the OT winner all of this after sitting with an injury for 2 months. The guy has got talent he just needs to play smarter. he has showed signs of brilliance while at the same time selfish play. However if he plays the way he did last night every night then he is defiantly a top 6 forward.
jayvardy 1 year ago
I think that the leafs should try and pull off a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers and bring in Center JEFF CARTER for KABERLE, CHRIS DIDOMENICO and a goalie or a draft pick at the most. Carter was almost on his way to toronto a number of years ago and I think he would be a nice fit. Big guy who is a natural goal scorer as well can make plays. The deal would work well for both teams.
mattsmith34888 1 year ago
Goal-tending is excellent right now. We have a veteran goalie with a Stanley cup working under his old coach with a very promising prospect learning the NHL game from the same coach with a perfect role model. The defense is solid. What the leafs DESPERATELY need is one or two top six NHL quality forwards with an NHL quality shot. While a centre would be nice, really we just need two forwards who can pass, who are fast, and who can put the puck exactly where they want to every time.
polyp17 1 year ago
It's not completely realistic, but I would like to see the leafs sign Tomas Pleckanic and if he comes back to the NHL next season like I think he will. Jagr would look good next to Pleckanic.
77smith 1 year ago
Leafs sorely need another top 6 forward via a Centre (Marleau Plekanec maybe even Kovalchuk) yes im aware Ilya is a not a centre but would compliment Kessel and Bozak. a Solid and i mean SOLID goalie (looks like Gustavsson but who knows) and top 2 way grinder (an Ethan Moreau or John Madden would be nice) but i think Mike Fisher is "unrealilistic". Cheers Steve :)

haha Steve i love ur sharp clever nicknames for guys and teams!! Ur a genius :D
RichRoma66 1 year ago
Pretty good game, they had sooo many chances right in front of Thomas but just couldnt seem to put the puck in,if some of those went our way the score woulda been more like Leafs 5-Bos3 no overtime. I would have to say we need a solid forward up there, doesnt have to be a huge goalscorer but atleast consistent...something were lacking. Im really liking Bozak right now,
Rjc033 1 year ago
I think Kulemin has been the Leafs most consistent player this year...I never thought I would ever say that.
We need a TRUE #1 centre-man...and I haven't the slightest idea of who that could be.
carmie1818 1 year ago 6
@carmie1818 Trade ya Zajac for Kessel

ya we really ONLY need a few top 6 guys... and yes especially a centerman. key word ONLY lol

Hah, I was thinking the game title would be Luca Ca-Beauty, but I thought it was kinda weird considering it was a 'garbage' goal he scored (but I guess he played well =])
CaptainKishimoto 1 year ago

JoedDominique 1 year ago
he is old but he could be a good centre for a year as the young talent develops
