I am starting to see why unions could be a benefit to workers in the retail sector. I have watched most of the films about wal-mart and it's really sickening that these companies are making billions in profits, yet their workers are living in poverty. This is not the American way. I think that is the problem in this country, that the rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer. The wealth needs to be distributed more evenly.
1 out of 25 Coffees are fair trade currently at Starbucks...seems to me there is more to worry about with the Starbucks 'mentality' than just unions. The psuedo intellectual morons who buy into the starbucks' consumer culture and so called 'lifestyle' are possibly the most ignorant people to ever walk this planet. Wake up and smell the coffee...Schultzy is in it for the money, and marketing your brain cells in order for you to buy into his 'green' faux philosophy.
Eh, working in a coal mine is dangerous deadly work that deserves high pay and protection for the workers. Slinging coffee at Starbucks or stocking shelves at WalMart? Not so much. Saying that these 'workers' (an INSULTING term for 'employees') should be paid more just for having a heartbeat and clocking in, because the CEO or owner is rich?? That sound like communism, and that has been proven not to work.
Umm...sorry to burst your little conspiracy theory bubble, but Starbucks hasn't had any stores in Israel since 2003, when they ceased operations there and has no financial or political relationship with the government, army or settlers.
Starbucks does, however, have numerous locations in Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Jordan and Lebanon.

It's no wonder why America has sunken so low in their hands.
America has sunken to where it is becasue of greedy corporate scumbags who have made sure education has gone to shit so no one can challenge them the way they were challenged in the 60['s. hmmmm...... Stop worker bullying/ enjoy great coffee ...hmmmmm its a cruel world id rather drink at theirs some more than sign a petition to shut them down..... yes im a cruel bastard ...
the wage of a companies workers should be directly related to the companies profit margins, as it goes up so do wages, also as in canada the poverty line is my province is 32,000, meaning anyone making under 32k is considered impovrished, yet the minimum wage is 8$ an hour resulting with fulltime work to under 20k a year. Systems like this tell us that the gov is not to be trusted with finances they say this is poor and we will make you even poorer than that. yet CEO have 30 houses and 50 cars
based on the principle of fairness for all, the democratic principle, then this system should therefore be treasonous for it contradicts a fundamental right of a populous living under a democracy to be treated fairly and reasonably by those they GIVE control to in gov. It is apparent to me that as we came into nations where we respected human rights we are now in an era where consumers must have fundemental inaliable rights as well. I demand a Consumer Bill of rights limiting profit margins
and balancing profit with employee wages, also i demand a fair system of government utilizing our current tech level by posing electronic referendums on any decision that effects the populous as a whole. Also Gov should be a manifestation of the populous needs, so the person in charge should not be of an age group that is not average with the country this way we will not have outdated logic, also it should be 1y terms with jury selection process from many educated people not silly voting
I think you are missing the point. Corporations don't give shit about the workers. They are psychopathic entities who only purpose in profit. They were given the same rights as humans. If they were human they would be in the psycho ward. In America the government is just like another corporation.
in case you didnt notice i am talking about taking power of control away from the corporation because of the fact that they are manipulating via lobbying the law systems and the gov and oppressing the average worker with unjust wages based on that companies profit margins, so no you dont get my point i get the point of this video just fine tyvm
as long as we first ensure the gov is re structured to have ample and instant punishment for exploitation of the system for personal gains by the gov, i am not shallow minded i realize under the current structure the gov would simply abuse the extra power and or become compliant with the corps again as they are now. But the worss things get the apparent total change is needed. So yes as long as we the people took control of the gov then yes the gov would enforce corporate regulation

Something I've learned: The people who run corporations are human. The people who run Starbucks are human and actually, for the most part, pretty decent ones, and sincere about their product and their commitment to their people.
Starbucks is also incredibly small when it comes to monoliths like McDonald's. We all need to understand that corporations do need to be responsible, and workers need to be empowered, but when you attack small corp.s like Starbucks, you really do harm their workers.
"Small corps". lol Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world,[2] with 16,120 stores in 49 countries, including around 11,000 in the United States, followed by nearly 1,000 in Canada and more than 800 in Japan
Something you should learn are call facts. When state your opinion of Starbucks owners it's worth about two napkins and a straw.
Why on EARTH do you think wages should increase for a minimum wage job when the profits increase? That makes no sense. If one if not happy making $8 an hour, they need to acquire skills which pay more. Making a latte doesn't deserve more than that.
and if that system worked i am sure you wouldnt have people with degrees working @ starbucks, just because you want to do a job and get training for it doesnt mean that job will be available for you. Also i pose direct wage to profit scaling to handicap greed, and ultimately find a balance between profits sought and reasonable pricing IE no more 3000% profit when everyone of your employees works for minimum wage. All labor is equally important if it facilitates better living standards in society
i know people who work & have worked at starbucks & every one of them actually loved their job. surprisingly, they even offer decent benefits. there's some level of corruption in nearly everything these days. it's just a fact. if we shut down every company that has corruption, this country would be a LOT worse off than it already is! if you dont like your job, you, suck it up & deal with it, because you have to, or you QUIT. you dont try to shut down the whole company. lol
You have is ass backwards. Corporations are the problem. People like you who defend them breaking the law, stomping labor and feasting on our taxes are just slave minded. You're an enabler.
no its just a fact thats all. people i know who work there honestly LIKE the job with NO complaints whatsoever. seriously, if corporations were shut down-wal mart, starbucks etc-thered be a LOT of people out of a job. most people dont like their job. its a necessary evil. its just life. people need to quit pissin & moaning & get an education, then go out & get a real job if they dont like working for starbucks. you cant take on a big corporation, but you CAN take care of yourself!
1.You know some people who work. so fucking what. You could never know if they complain or not because you are not around then 24/7.
2.Corporations are not a necessary evil. That's what chattel slaves are told. "Keep working because that's just the way it is"
3. People should quit"pissing and moaning" Yet another example of your slave mentality. The idea that no one should complain or try to improve their conditions is straight out of N. Korea.
In other words don't try to fight your master. Well, too late. corporations are more mistrusted and hated in America than they ever have been. Corporate crime is at all time high and the internet is exposing it all. MSM TV ratings are diving and newspapers are going extinct more and more as people move to eliminate the propaganda from their news.
I take care of myself very well thank you. I hope you do the same especially if you speak in public.
LOL, you're hilarious "your slave mentality" indeed. my whole point is, people expect too much out of their minimum wage paying jobs. some yokel flipping burgers at BK, or fixing coffee @ starbucks simply doesn't DESERVE as much pay as someone who went to college & got a "real" job. they should look at their OWN life choices, rather than blaming the corporation for whom they work if they arent happy. oh & taking responsibility for yourself is the opposite of being a slave.
LOL this is gonna blow your mind. Most of the jobs are service jobs. I know lots of college graduates who can't get jobs in their fields because they are being filled off shore. Your whole "taking responsibility" crap is just that. Think about it genius. If you really know business than you would know that they are the least responsible entity out there. In fact one of the main reasons that business incorporates is for "liability" Not to mention they externalize cost to the tax payer.
hey "brainiac" i personally went to college, own a small service-related business & yes, i am feeling the crunch of this economy, but I'm proud of what i've accomplished. I'm so sick of people working "regular" jobs who complain because they don't have the same benefits or wages as people who EARNED what they have. responsibility is about taking charge of your life & being an adult, not about complaining that your boss makes more than you lol (& i mean that figuratively & literally)
-.- It's different when the low level employee is smarter and works harder than the higher level employee.
You should be prod of your hard work, and you have the right to be sick of people complaining, But to think everyone ended up where they are because they didn't work hard enough, or to assume they didn't earn more than they are getting, is insane.
Maybe you should stop thinking about the people who ended up being "big shots", and make lots of money, and start thinking about...hmm I don't know.... WORKERS RIGHTS!!! Don't be a republican...actually care about the middle/lower class.
I think repubs care a great deal about the middle and lower classes... they just dont think that flipping burgers and making coffee are career goal jobs. That some folks with a degree are flipping burgers and making coffee doesn't make it so.
...But who will flip the burgers and make coffee if everyone goes to college.
I think democrats understand that, although they believe that going to college is better, they also believe that people can become successful even if they work for a fast food joint. Take my mom for example. She makes a fair paycheck working at Chili's.
Yeah, but last night after my brother rolled off your mum, she was bitchin' about the fact that she had no friggin' health care working at Chili's -- and that you don't either working at the Wal-Mart.
oh & since we're labeling & over generalizing one another here- people like YOU sit around whining about his or her situation, living life stuck in a rut, but are too scared and/or comfortable to do something about it. go to school, get a job, then use the money from that job to buy starbucks & quit your whining.
atripa645: it is in fact people like you who have no idea. bring in the union and most of the workers will reget it immediately - if their wages increase it will be enough to cover union fees. it's all about the unions having more money. yes it is.
Soakuptheidiot. You must be the biggest liar in your family. Do you always just make stuff up and say it. Why are you so scared of people organizing like corporations do when the become conglomerates? Union workers make an average of 20% more. I would join a union just because it takes power away from employers. This terrible situation we are in here in American is the direct result of boomer capitalism. lol. The pills wont last forever.
check out some of your eurosocialist worker's paradises. for example, folks in England who bought houses in Spain have found out they bought a bill of goods...
how amusing that you think I'm "scared" of people organizing? Who led you to believe that folks you don't agree with are somehow led by negative emotion?
such demonization is common among union true believers - facts matter not at all.
Once upon a time the unions cared about worker's rights. That however has not been true for about 25 years. Unions are owned (like everything else) by special interest groups who care only about themselves and how much money they can make.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I hate organized workers, they don't need it, if they have skills they can get a job at the highest paying company for their skills. Companies will have to pay well if they want skilled workers. Skill is job security and good pay. Public's supermarkets is a good example of this, they have higher pay and benefits because they want the best workers in their stores. If Starbucks employees don't like their job they can fire Starbucks by quitting and get another job somewhere else.
ndyt: I think sometimes organized workers have too much control over businesses, but there has to be some form of organization and protest available. It's very rarely as simple as leaving your job. There are so many people that couldn't afford it. Why should they have to be put through unacceptable work conditions just because they have no other choice? There has to be some form of minimal acceptable conditions for all workers.
Wow did you take right wing propaganda 101? I can tell because slaves like you all ways say "if they don't like it they can go somewhere else". What you mean is that they can find another two bit boss that will use them to personally enrich themselves. You bow to the demons and get mad when others don't do the same. You should really hope there is no judgment.
I am starting to see why unions could be a benefit to workers in the retail sector. Let's talk about how the world coffee market treats, bullies, and enslaves 3rd world farmers into over farming their own homelands into deserts.
When we are done with coffee, let's move onto palm oil, chocolate, sugar, fish, and rubber trees.
And let's talk about how the systems we use to keep our markets fed with these raw goods is COMPLETELY unsustainable.

based on the principle of fairness for all, the democratic principle, then this system should therefore be treasonous for it contradicts a fundamental right of a populous living under a democracy to be treated fairly and reasonably by those they GIVE control to in gov. It is apparent to me that as we came into nations where we respected human rights we are now in an era where consumers must have fundemental inaliable rights as well. I demand a Consumer Bill of rights limiting profit margins
Fulcanellius 2 years ago
and balancing profit with employee wages, also i demand a fair system of government utilizing our current tech level by posing electronic referendums on any decision that effects the populous as a whole. Also Gov should be a manifestation of the populous needs, so the person in charge should not be of an age group that is not average with the country this way we will not have outdated logic, also it should be 1y terms with jury selection process from many educated people not silly voting
Fulcanellius 2 years ago
I think you are missing the point. Corporations don't give shit about the workers. They are psychopathic entities who only purpose in profit. They were given the same rights as humans. If they were human they would be in the psycho ward. In America the government is just like another corporation.
atripa645 2 years ago
in case you didnt notice i am talking about taking power of control away from the corporation because of the fact that they are manipulating via lobbying the law systems and the gov and oppressing the average worker with unjust wages based on that companies profit margins, so no you dont get my point i get the point of this video just fine tyvm
Fulcanellius 2 years ago
Fulcanellius: You are manipulating and lobbying to take power away from the corporation. Who would you give the power to - the gov't?
soakupthesunman 2 years ago
as long as we first ensure the gov is re structured to have ample and instant punishment for exploitation of the system for personal gains by the gov, i am not shallow minded i realize under the current structure the gov would simply abuse the extra power and or become compliant with the corps again as they are now.

We all need to understand that corporations do need to be responsible, and workers need to be empowered, but when you attack small corp.s like Starbucks, you really do harm their workers.
pixeltech 2 years ago
"Small corps". lol Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world,[2] with 16,120 stores in 49 countries, including around 11,000 in the United States, followed by nearly 1,000 in Canada and more than 800 in Japan
Something you should learn are call facts. When state your opinion of Starbucks owners it's worth about two napkins and a straw.

Why on EARTH do you think wages should increase for a minimum wage job when the profits increase? That makes no sense. If one if not happy making $8 an hour, they need to acquire skills which pay more. Making a latte doesn't deserve more than that.
cmanw 2 years ago
and if that system worked i am sure you wouldnt have people with degrees working @ starbucks, just because you want to do a job and get training for it doesnt mean that job will be available for you. Also i pose direct wage to profit scaling to handicap greed, and ultimately find a balance between profits sought and reasonable pricing IE no more 3000% profit when everyone of your employees works for minimum wage. All labor is equally important if it facilitates better living standards in society
Fulcanellius 2 years ago
Who decides that? I say being a greedy money whore doesn't deserve any more than a 5- 10 year stay at a mental institution .
atripa645 2 years ago
i know people who work & have worked at starbucks & every one of them actually loved their job. surprisingly, they even offer decent benefits. there's some level of corruption in nearly everything these days. it's just a fact. if we shut down every company that has corruption, this country would be a LOT worse off than it already is! if you dont like your job, you, suck it up & deal with it, because you have to, or you QUIT. you dont try to shut down the whole company. lol
eyepatchinc 2 years ago
You have is ass backwards. Corporations are the problem. People like you who defend them breaking the law, stomping labor and feasting on our taxes are just slave minded. You're an enabler.
atripa645 2 years ago
no its just a fact thats all. people i know who work there honestly LIKE the job with NO complaints whatsoever. seriously, if corporations were shut down-wal mart, starbucks etc-thered be a LOT of people out of a job. most people dont like their job. its a necessary evil. its just life. people need to quit pissin & moaning & get an education, then go out & get a real job if they dont like working for starbucks. you cant take on a big corporation, but you CAN take care of yourself!
eyepatchinc 2 years ago
Like I said you are brain washed
1.You know some people who work. so fucking what. You could never know if they complain or not because you are not around then 24/7.
2.Corporations are not a necessary evil. That's what chattel slaves are told. "Keep working because that's just the way it is"
3. People should quit"pissing and moaning" Yet another example of your slave mentality. The idea that no one should complain or try to improve their conditions is straight out of N. Korea.
atripa645 2 years ago 2
N. Korea is remarkable for total lack of corporations. It's totally gov't run.
Oh, and don't even think about going to N. Korea to try to organize workers... you'll find out what real torture is.
soakupthesunman 2 years ago
"you cant take on a big corporation"
In other words don't try to fight your master. Well, too late. corporations are more mistrusted and hated in America than they ever have been. Corporate crime is at all time high and the internet is exposing it all. MSM TV ratings are diving and newspapers are going extinct more and more as people move to eliminate the propaganda from their news.
I take care of myself very well thank you. I hope you do the same especially if you speak in public.
atripa645 2 years ago
LOL, you're hilarious "your slave mentality" indeed. my whole point is, people expect too much out of their minimum wage paying jobs. some yokel flipping burgers at BK, or fixing coffee @ starbucks simply doesn't DESERVE as much pay as someone who went to college & got a "real" job. they should look at their OWN life choices, rather than blaming the corporation for whom they work if they arent happy. oh & taking responsibility for yourself is the opposite of being a slave.
eyepatchinc 2 years ago
LOL this is gonna blow your mind. Most of the jobs are service jobs. I know lots of college graduates who can't get jobs in their fields because they are being filled off shore. Your whole "taking responsibility" crap is just that. Think about it genius. If you really know business than you would know that they are the least responsible entity out there. In fact one of the main reasons that business incorporates is for "liability" Not to mention they externalize cost to the tax payer.
atripa645 2 years ago
hey "brainiac" i personally went to college, own a small service-related business & yes, i am feeling the crunch of this economy, but I'm proud of what i've accomplished. I'm so sick of people working "regular" jobs who complain because they don't have the same benefits or wages as people who EARNED what they have. responsibility is about taking charge of your life & being an adult, not about complaining that your boss makes more than you lol (& i mean that figuratively & literally)
eyepatchinc 2 years ago
-.- It's different when the low level employee is smarter and works harder than the higher level employee.
You should be prod of your hard work, and you have the right to be sick of people complaining, But to think everyone ended up where they are because they didn't work hard enough, or to assume they didn't earn more than they are getting, is insane.
angelicexcel 2 years ago
Maybe you should stop thinking about the people who ended up being "big shots", and make lots of money, and start thinking about...hmm I don't know.... WORKERS RIGHTS!!! Don't be a republican...actually care about the middle/lower class.
RWDixon8r 2 years ago
I think repubs care a great deal about the middle and lower classes... they just dont think that flipping burgers and making coffee are career goal jobs. That some folks with a degree are flipping burgers and making coffee doesn't make it so.
soakupthesunman 2 years ago
...But who will flip the burgers and make coffee if everyone goes to college.
I think democrats understand that, although they believe that going to college is better, they also believe that people can become successful even if they work for a fast food joint. Take my mom for example. She makes a fair paycheck working at Chili's.
RWDixon8r 2 years ago
RWDixon8r --
Yeah, but last night after my brother rolled off your mum, she was bitchin' about the fact that she had no friggin' health care working at Chili's -- and that you don't either working at the Wal-Mart.

oh & since we're labeling & over generalizing one another here- people like YOU sit around whining about his or her situation, living life stuck in a rut, but are too scared and/or comfortable to do something about it. go to school, get a job, then use the money from that job to buy starbucks & quit your whining.
eyepatchinc 2 years ago
atripa645: it is in fact people like you who have no idea. bring in the union and most of the workers will reget it immediately - if their wages increase it will be enough to cover union fees. it's all about the unions having more money. yes it is.
soakupthesunman 2 years ago
Soakuptheidiot. You must be the biggest liar in your family. Do you always just make stuff up and say it. Why are you so scared of people organizing like corporations do when the become conglomerates? Union workers make an average of 20% more. I would join a union just because it takes power away from employers. This terrible situation we are in here in American is the direct result of boomer capitalism. lol. The pills wont last forever.
atripa645 2 years ago
you think the US is in a "terrible position"?
check out some of your eurosocialist worker's paradises. for example, folks in England who bought houses in Spain have found out they bought a bill of goods...
how amusing that you think I'm "scared" of people organizing? Who led you to believe that folks you don't agree with are somehow led by negative emotion?
such demonization is common among union true believers - facts matter not at all.
soakupthesunman 2 years ago
No. Unions care about Worker's Rights.
RWDixon8r 2 years ago
Once upon a time the unions cared about worker's rights. That however has not been true for about 25 years. Unions are owned (like everything else) by special interest groups who care only about themselves and how much money they can make.

If Starbucks employees don't like their job they can fire Starbucks by quitting and get another job somewhere else.
ndyt 2 years ago
Unless, of course all of the employers in a given area do things like maintain a low pay scale in order to keep costs down.
You might wonder why such a thing as a legal minimum wage even exists.
NiteMayr 2 years ago 4
ndyt: I think sometimes organized workers have too much control over businesses, but there has to be some form of organization and protest available. It's very rarely as simple as leaving your job. There are so many people that couldn't afford it. Why should they have to be put through unacceptable work conditions just because they have no other choice? There has to be some form of minimal acceptable conditions for all workers.
mark200 2 years ago
Wow did you take right wing propaganda 101? I can tell because slaves like you all ways say "if they don't like it they can go somewhere else". What you mean is that they can find another two bit boss that will use them to personally enrich themselves. You bow to the demons and get mad when others don't do the same. You should really hope there is no judgment.
