I lived near Barksdale AFB in Bossier City in early 2000... and I tell you... those B52 engines are LOUD!!!!! I was near the runway (about 50 yards away) during one approach and I thought my head was going to explode!
But they are so pretty to watch. Proud to be an American. :)
OH... I totally believe you. Same engine type. I've seen 1 B-58 in my lifetime.. but I was nearly 1/2 a mile away, so I didn't get to "experience" it, per se.
correction: I just looked up the powerplant.. and I was incorrect. There are similarities ... but I'm sure with these afterburners, it was night-and-day difference.
@Burnsengine Funny it has the same engine's as the F-4 but twice as loud lol,Must be an early version or its just the 4 of uhm idk lol.Wish one was airworthy but sadly no :(
@hiian123 thankyou for you answer. one thing I do know is that the B-52 is not the US's primary bomber, the B1 is newer, for one thing, as is the B2. These two are both used a lot more than the B52, and you have got to remember that they use a lot of fighters as fighter/bombers now.
Newer doesn't have anything to do with it. The B-2 is by far the best bomber in the world, but it's a very expensive one at that... I'm talking about three times as much to operate as the B-52. The B-1b is similarly expensive, although not nearly as bad as the B-2. The sad truth is that the Stratofortress' simplicity makes it the natural choice over the Lancer and Spirit for all but the highest-threat targets.
@emilaero Actually the B-52 is still one of our primary front-line bombers - they have updated them over the years to use the newer high-tech pinpoint capable weaponry (JDAMs for instance) - B-52 still has a phenomenal load capacity and can deliver it across the globe (with in air refueling, etc.).
For those who were commmenting on the B-52, one thing that you have to remember is that the B-52 is still using "turbojet" powerplants. They have been slightly upgraded and obviously fuel quality has improved over the years so it is actually more efficient and "clean burning" when compared to the powerplants that were used during the cold war and also the Vietnam War. Look up vids of those BUFFs and you'll see what I'm saying.
Its a pity that one of the B-1's didnt do a go-a-round like they used too. Makes arrivals more interesting! Great video. I've done FRIAT a few times its always worth the money
Did you get this on MACH 3 Tickets cuz zme and my mate simon are going to RIAT 2009 on MACH 3 tickets and im wondering how to get the best results. Get my videos when they are arriving and photos when they are leaving on the monday or the round and get photos when they are arriving and videos when they are leaving. What did you do? im assuming you got photos aswell ?
mach 3 tickets are well wrth the money if u can afford it. m and my dad have done it the past 2 years. 2009 were doing the same. 2007 was the best ever and because few have mach 3 means u get no one in the way of your photos. recently bought a canon 100-400mm L IS USM lens cant wait to try it out. but dude go for it its well wrth it ull buy it from then on

as far as I know the b-52 is retired so who runs it?
emilaero 9 months ago
@emilaero B-52 is still in the active USAF inventory, they won't retire that airframe for another 30 years.

@emilaero actually the B-52 is still the primary bomber of the U.S. Air Force. I don't know where your getting your "facts"

@emilaero You can use a A10 Warthog as a bomber the F/18 has similiar air to ground capablities as does the F117A Stealth Fighter.

@TheFighterpilot93 The DY on the tail denotes it's home base as Dyess AFB, Texas. The other B-1 is likely based somewhere else.
