wow i remember seeing the push mower at sask place once when i was younger! i think it was 05 or maybe it was 06 also i live in melfort so i saw them at the fair there too. they are awesome to watch and i have thought about building one myself.
I'm building one right now, Is it ok to have a stiff front axle or should I allow it to sway left and right? I'm worried that too much sway in the front end will allow it to roll over too easily. Or am I wrong?
freakin awesome. i have a murray select all apart that i bought for $30 total but its only a 2003 model so its not build as well as the oldies. thats what mods are for! hopefully when i get the money ill build it. do the stock trannies hold up well? any mods to them?
@SaskLongboarding If you already have a mower, you could spend about $200 and make a decent one. We've kind of slowed down in it. There was only one race we heard of in Sask. this year in Kindersley.
@pumkinchunkin I don't know where wertheroriginal lives, but usually you can get them anywhere from $250 to $400, on average here in Maine. That's if it runs decent or good. You can get lucky if you search hard enough or deal with the right people to get one dirt cheap. Ex: I got my mower frame for free (were going to junk it), was given an 8hp B&S engine because the guy had no use for it, paid $35.00 on 4 "new" tires and an old 2 speed transmission from a very nice guy I found on craigslist com
i was wondering if you knew how to fix my front tire on my mower cause its all cocked out and on top where the stearing rod connects to it there is a big gap so what should i do
@deaucey The frame is 1"x1"x1/8" square tubing and we just set that push mower deck over top, cut a hole for the engine to stick through and welded some tabs on to bolt it down. It has a centrifugal clutch and a jack-shaft to get the gear ratio we wanted.
@CorsaAGSi Your tractor looks in quite good shape. It seems odd that the numbers would be gone, they're usually under the seat. I don't really know of a way other than find another one just like it and get those numbers.
@GearHead1625 On that red front engine mtd we tried using the stock variable pulley system. We flipped it up to use on a horizontal shaft engine. It worked but not all that great. The other tractors just used a belt and idler pulley system.
We only went to one in Kindersley. There was one in White Bear we missed but there could have been more. A lot of times there's just a local bunch of friends who put on a little race at their town fair days.
I don't yet, I am getting into the sport, I'm looking for my first lawn mower. At first I wanted a murray with a engine in back, but one of the youtubers, told me to get something else, what do you think. The mower looks like what you guys race, but is not custom, also I want to race in the USLMRA, which certain rules need to be followed.
Sask. is short for Saskatchewan, that's the province I live in. Yes we did have the local news do a short story at one race, they interviewed my brother.
Most of them we converted to horizontal shaft motors. We still use the belt and idler clutch system, but we got rid of the tranny and just have one gear. We build new front axles with go-kart style steering so there's only about half a turn on the steering wheel stop to stop.
You could probably get it to go 45-50 mph if you geared it high enough, but it may not accelerate very fast unless you can shift the tranny on the fly. My Cub Cadet is geared to go about 25 mph, even if I start in 3rd gear it accelerates pretty fast.
I would get rid of that gear reduction thing in the steering linkage. I usually have my steering set up so the steering wheel only turns about a 1/4 turn each way. This actually makes it more sensitive.
If you mean the one that does those big wheelies, then we got it from a friend. It didn't have any engine, so we put an 8 hp Robin on with the same drive setup as the that first red one.
The back part of the chassis was cut off and rebuilt with tubing to clear the wide tires and the front axle was built new with the spindle bolts placed so that the chassis was level
what did u do for a drive on those? i have a wheel horse that i would like to do something like that to. i live in ohio if u have ne advice plz tell me!!

@bobchessy The peerless 700 in a 5 or 6 speed holds up quite well without any mods if your engine isn't modified too much.
