  • lol you can see heath ledger doing his thing

  • OH CRAP i looked at it....I'm not a cool guy :(

  • Funny... I was just watching this movie on TV the other day, and I was wondering how they pulled off the building explosion effect. It looked way too real for CG.

I kinda thought it might have been a real explosion, because I think they would have created a much bigger building on a computer for "Gotham General Hospital."

  • whats the technique they used? i mean the building implosions here in youtube they fall down cleanly (with no outside explosions) but this building they not only knocked it down but with a great explosions that can be seen outside, is that even the sides of the building they put a 100 kg c4?

  • OMFG they did it for real i was thinking it was a computer grapics

  • What a disaster...

  • that was an awesome scene!

  • @0:37 you see a school bus coming in the screen at the left. is that where heath is in?

  • second 35 was just amazing wow!

  • Wow!

I thought that the whole explsion was CGI.

  • it would suck if the director imploded the building, but he didnt take the lense of the recorder :l

  • damn.

  • YAYAYAYAYAY!

  • thats not an implosion, its an explosion + collapse

  • i have seen some actual pictures of the entire set, including one of my boss standing next to the batman car. four of our coaches were sent out to chicago to do the hospital scene, and beleive me those coaches came back with no broken windows or nothing.

stacie just look in the hospital scene whee they are evacuating the hospital you will see a withe bus with gold and brown stirpes appear twice. that's one of our babies from fostoria.

  • Owned.

  • what was the demo'd building before they used it as set?

in relation to the movie, first little pops, joker was between the ambulance, just a bit away from a crossbridge into the building. i saw him run when the big booms started to collapse the building.

  • i cant se him :(

  • That is so cool!! You can even see the bus leaving...man, just a little more to the left and you could've seen Heath Ledger. That's awesome.

  • you can see him in white as he passes the van and you can see the camera man in front of him

  • Oh yes, I saw that--I meant that you could see him fiddling with the detonator too, then running into the bus. It's still amazing though.

  • no because he didnt do that scene while it was exploding! that would be too dangerous! they shot him walking away and the explosion separate.

  • No because you can clearly see him walking with the camera crew in front of him before it goes off. It was a controlled implosion with some fireballs to make it look like a firey explosion...

  • i watched the making of this explosion and they said that they did them seperate!

  • Sure ya did! Where'd you see this making of eh?

  • i think it was at amazon, i was lookin at the 2 disc dvd and there where some videos about dark knight below (no lie!)

  • Perhaps the interior shots. but you can see him on the right hand side.

  • idk i cant see him at all. lol

  • actually if you look at the bottom left of the video at the end you see the bus that he stole driving away.

  • i it would be filmed a bit to the west it woul had been posible to see heath ledger going into that bus

  • yea you're right...i just saw the movie yesterday and Heath is walking out of the building and pressing the trigger and only a few small explosions happen which can be seen at the beginning of this video and then he presses it again and the whole thing blows up when he jumps on the bus, which you can see leaving the area. very cool!

  • that was such a sweet explosion!

cant wait to see the movie

  • you're too close

  • Okay, now I'm seeing Dark Knight in theaters.

  • WOA! LOL THEY BLEW IT UP!!! Thats awesome!!! I'm SO excited!

  • that cant be right

  • this is not a implosion.

    it's a explusion

  • this looks like something from a bond movie :D

  • Why on earth didn't they remove those cars parked nearby before the implosion, or is this everyday stuff in the windy city? "Oh well, looks like another day of cleaning shrapnel and debris of my car, yup..."

  • its part of the scene.

  • HOLY SHIT JOKER BLOWS UP THE BANK!

  • This was an implosion done for a movie. Hence all the pyrotechnics and all the cars that are so close. It's for the new batman movie.

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • There actually probably wasn't a camera in that chopper you can see a camera crane on the bottom left of the screen, anyway good vid!

  • was it just me, or was there a helicopter flying away from the explosion while it was going on. thats one hell of a stunt.

  • Yeah...prolly a camera filming in the 'copter.

  • @henryt49 The helicopter dosen't appear in the final scene.

  • nice video...where's da sound?

  • i agree. nicholson was so theatrical that it didn't reflect how i saw the joker at all. i think he will be better now, especially since its heath ledger. most ppl think he is some teenage hearthrob, truth is he departed from that a looooong time ago, even before Brokeback

  • now thats awesome! i can't wait for the dark knight next year! *drool*

  • Heath gave up a lot of films to do this. Hence why he's only filming this one on his Imdb(dot)com. He's also going to be the best and first non american Joker.

  • if he's the first, doesn't that make him the best by default?

  • From your reply, you mis-read. He is the first Austrailian to play Joker. Plus, from people who've actually saw him, they said he's going to be the best. Screw your Nicholson.

  • you can definitely see a crane camera on the bottom left corner of the screen

  • it ruins the film big time if you watch these kinds of vids

  • Why did you watch this video then, you knew what it was. Plus it doesnt really ruin the film at all.

  • odd... maybe i'm blind but did anybody see any cameras or crew scurrying about?

  • no i didnt see any camera! also you would of thought that this being a batman movie they would have done it at night time????

  • It doesnt matter if its in the day, its called special effects. They can make it dark if they want too. Plus it most probably will be a different color when its put threw editing.

  • thanks for posting

  • this is the film of 2008 dont mind anything else we want gold box office for this like the money that piece of crap that was spiderman 3 800 million

  • wow xD gotta love stuff like that xD

  • is this a hospital the joker blows up in TDK ?

  • correct.

  • one buddy of mine is in a hospital scene as an extra in the movie!!!!

  • mrmaya3d, you're an idiot... it's FAR from a "waste of money"... it's called an INVESTMENT. the cost of that explosion was nothing compared to the amount of cash it will generate. NOT TO MENTION it saves the owners and the city the cost of demolition. it was a financial win - win - win - win.

  • I'm gonna love this fuckin movie!

  • hell no, that building is on the side of my house, all that blowing was shaking the block.

  • Lol i wonder if there were kids on the school buses

"And a huge building blew up!!!"

  • what a waste of money

  • It was an abandoned candy factory...at least it went out with a bang.

  • best pun ever

  • @IIDVNII THAT'S WHAT I READ TOO, AND I THOUGHT, ABANDONED CANDY FACTORY..."SWEET!!!"

  • @MrMaya3D Why a waste of money ? It was used for a movie that became a smash hit.

  • @kthevsd

It was probably a building that needed to be torn down, the film studio most likely approached the city, said they'd pay for it if they used it in their movie. It was probably a controlled demolition with a little 'flair'

  • NOLANN is the shit.

  • yep.....I'd say that building is quite blown up.

  • A lil'bit.
