It was SEVEN FREAKING MINUTES!!!! SEVEN!!!! ITS NOT LIKE WE"RE TALKING HOURS!!!!! YOU REALLY THINK HE COULD MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION IN SEVEN MINUTES?!?!?
@halliehater It's not the matter of what he couldn't have done in 7 minutes. he probably wouldn't had been able to do a lot. It's the fact that he chose to sit and do nothing for 7 minutes while the country HE HAD SWORN TO PROTECT was being attacked. Although he may not have been able to accomplish much in 7 minutes, he could have at least gotten on his way instead of just sitting.
To all the idiots who say Bush did the right thing, I say, "Bullshit"
Bush should have stood up, and said, "Thank you for inviting me today. You're doing great, and I'm proud of you. Stay in school, and study hard. I'm sorry, but something has come up and I have to leave now."
He should have then left the room, relocated to a safe area, and been fully briefed so he could make informed decisions because he was supposed to be, you know, the 'Commander in Chief'.
Bush "didn't want to frighten the children!" as you put it. It's a good thing he didn't get up and leave. On Time's website there's an article that includes interviews with some of the kids that were there, looking back on it. One thought when seeing Bush's expression, "...did we read something wrong?" Another commented, "...I'm just glad he didn't get up and leave, because then I would have been more scared and confused." They were 6 and 7. Just think and try to put yourself in their shoes.
@77777Blackjack77777 Not sure if you bothered to watch until the end, but this was not someone worried about "frightening the children". A simple smiling "Excuse me, but I have 'President-things to do" would have sufficed.
IF he had been worried about "frightening the children" like so many claim, it would of been nice if he had shown HALF as much concern for the people in those buildings. Priorities, ya know.
oh my word - excusing him just sitting there silently for 7 minutes after being told we just got two huge planes into the WTC is about the most helpless deer in headlights response possible! Agreed, I'd be more impressed if he fainted instead of just sitting when he should have left & started telling the advisers to do this or that based on what they told him!! He had a good heart, but I think Cheney took advantage of that, along with PNAC just look them up & "Pearl Harbor"
hi folks, i have only read the first sentence in the top comment on this page - (from dogfather0308)....and i am blown away at the naivety of 'some' people in our
country......how is it possible for anyone to even imagine a defence like ".....there
was nothing that any president could have done..." i really don't want to sound
cruel....but i think that fainting....or having a heart attack/failure would be far more
excusable than the casual reaction mr. bush displayed.
I get your point, but there was nothing that any president could have done during those seven minutes to change the outcome. If we want to point fingers, let's look at his previous eight months in office, not just those seven minutes. Or maybe we could look at the previous eight years before he even took office when we had plenty of warnings and opportunities that were ignored. We could even look at 1977-1993 and find three more commanders-in-chief whose foreign policy played a role in 9/11.
@DogFather0808 Here's the problem: you say, "There's nothing any president could have done during those seven minutes." You know that NOW, and only with hindsight. HE DIDN'T. At that time, HE KNEW NOTHING. An invasion? Who knows? Worse, HE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO FIND OUT if anything could be done. Maybe there was nothing he could of done. Fine. But by not moving his ass out of his chair to find out, he instead left his country leaderless after being told it was "under attack".
what a retard, of course he could have gotten up. which prob should have been the right thing to do, but there was really nothing he could have done anyway. besides did you ever hear of shock?
if that is your only complaint then hes done pretty good
@begley09 "Bisad"? It is simply side-by-side footage of events taking place at the exact same time WITHOUT COMMENTARY. If you perceive a "bias", you must be questioning reality. "Facts have a Liberal bias."
imagine this, if you are the president of america. news broke that WTC towers were down, HOW WOULD YOU REACT??? your thinking of a normal day, carefree because of the active national defense. Im pointing out that bush was really astonished of what happened, not a narrow minded fool thinking that he must react and go FLY with his Red cape Freeze everything and save the day. NO! the damage has been done. Think Again.
@x331x I guarantee you that if something like 9/11 happened when Reagan was president, he wouldn't have sat around and red to school children. He would have got his ass back to washington and tried to see what could be done.
@x331x How did he know the damage? He knew enough that it was a bad situation. "We're under attack." or "We're at war." What more would someone have to say to get him to take action ... to find out what was going on, what happened, what needed to be done next, etc. H wasn't curious?
No excuse except that he knew the damage was done, just as you say. Exactly our point.
imagine this, if you are the president of america. news broke that WTC towers were down, HOW WOULD YOU REACT??? your thinking of a normal day, carefree because of the active national defense. Im pointing out that bush was really astonished of what happened, not a narrow minded fool thinking that he must react and go FLY with his Red cape Freeze everything and save the day. NO! the damage has been done. Think Again.
Or on the other hand he could have just lied to the kids and told them he had some sort of 'presidential' thing to attend to... after all, he's done quite a bit of lying so what's the harm in one more
Oohhh! So you wanted it THIS way? Bush finds out about terrorist attack. Bush: Really? Staff: Yes. Bush: Okay, we need to get to Air Force One. Kids: Where's he going? Staff: Right sir. Where do you want to go? Bush: Where? We're going to go kill some terrorists! How dare they attack us! Staff: Right. Uuuhhh...okay. Bush: They'll be sorry they ever messed with America. School: *crickets chirping* Where did he go?
Alright, I could argue back and forth with you all day about these things, but I have school and a job, which leaves me with little time, and this would be a never ending battle because we will both want to have the last word..so I'm just going to do the right thing and say nice chatting with you..Goodbye.
p.s. if you want to have the last word, GO FOR IT, it's all yours
how is this scaring the children??.he acted calm and collected and showed strength to the children without panicing to freak them out...you try to take anything and turn it around on him..he kept our country safe from terrorist attacks since 9/11 so there isn't much more to say than he did a good job!
Funny how an hour later, he's "calm and collected", yet somehow, he was incapable of doing this very thing just minutes earlier without "scaring the children".
"He kept this country safe"... so long as you don't count that one nasty terrorist attack on 9/11, the anthrax attacks a week later, the 4,000 dead soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan, and the 1,600 dead in New Orleans that left dead bodies floating in the streets. Except for ALL THAT, yeah, he "kept us safe". Moron.
As for the 4000 in Iraq and Afghanistan, there has been no draft, they knew the risks of joining the service, and people will always die on war..and without war, we would have never become a country..As for New Orleans, they had plenty of warning ahead of time to GET OUT!
It's okay if soldiers die in an unnecessary war based on a lie if they're volunteers, not draftees??? And might I remind you that most National Guard "volunteers" didn't sign up for full overseas deployment for years (or they would have just joined the Army). And then there's "Stop Loss" keeping soldiers there against their will... a backdoor "draft".
On N.O., "getting out" requires money. Money for transportation, and a place to stay. These people had no place to go and no way to get there.
This is a very heartless and naive statement. I was in the military, and had to volunteer for Iraq, so that a friend could be at home to see his baby born. Swearing an oath to protect the citizens from threats foreign and domestic does not entail going to unrelated lands and killing innocent people. You have a heartless outlook which helps you accept what has been told to you. You obediently serve the system. You would probably send your own child off to a war which was not ours.
stfu..first off, you don't know me, so don't act like you do..You are reading into things that I said and trying to attack me with your interpretations, as you people always do. You all need to stop living in the Bush-Blaming past and come to realize that Obama is not doing anything better..If you have a problem with the war, then you need to ask yourself, "Who is the President now?"
@bink456 Obama is carry Bush's job forward. Bush & crew should be investigated by an impartial, independent commission. Obama was born in Kenya & is not eligible for office. True patriots that believe in the integrity of America & the Constitution as rule of law agree with these points.
@Kyocus OBAMA! And he hasn't pulled out of the war, so do you blame him for the deaths of the last year?? Of course not! It is always Bush's fault isn't it?
I do blame Obama for the problems which he is responsible for in his presidency. He should end the wars.
The issue I was speaking of was your blatant disregard for the lives of our soldiers, and I said not ONE thing about Bush. I am an independent, and consciously hold few assumptions pertaining to politics and world events. I wasn't attacking you, but I was attempting to hold you sociably accountable for your own words. As I said before, don't let the system pull the wool over your eyes. Peace
I do care about the lives of our soldiers, as I have some relatives that are part of the military..Thank you though for bringing it to my attention that I sounded so heartless towards our country's heroes...that was not my intention. I was just trying to make the point that people know the risks of joining the army and it is not something that they are being forced into. I respect your service for the country and hope you will accept my apology for my ill use of words. Later bra.
I'm just glad to try to raise awareness, and kindness. I think a lot of people get into tunnel vision when they see so many others acting ignorant in their eyes. People then make swift judgments and swift comments in anger or frustration, when it is really about sharing ideas, and flushing out bad ideas. Why would you be here talking to so many people otherwise? Have fun raising others awareness my friend.
@BI30 Plus he left how many people for HOW LONG w/o food or water AND prevented them from leaving N.O. dome. They were there for several days after it was known about them not having water. I know that I worked for 3 days trying to get school buses & bottled water to go down there. President of US couldn't send a helicopter & throw the people some jugs of water? If it was the Texas A&M football team there, full rescue would have come immediately. "We're under attack" & he sits there. Whoa.
@bink456 bush didnt do SHIT for our country except plan that attack and drive us deeper into debt with sending millions of dollars over to iraq every month. bush has been by far the fucking dumbest president we have ever had.
O really, how bout that new Health Care plan made by your pal Obama...how will that affect the deficit??
Step 1: Think about what to complain about.
Step 2: Examine the leader of your party and how they are affecting the same issue making sure they are doing better than the person you are complaining about.
Step 3: Feel good about yourself when your politician is NOT worse than the one being complained about.
@bink456 im not saying obama is sent from god, but bush was NEVER qualified to be president. im not happy about the health care plan, so dont be a jerk and assume shit. all i am saying is bush was not a good president, and never should have been.
I agree that Bush had his faults, by no means do I think that he was the best President we ever had, but I think that the attacks on him have been WAY over exaggerated and have continued for WAY too longgg... I think that you could even agree with me on that.
@bink456 i do agree somewhat, i think people need to let it go but at the same time there's so much anger towards him for the dumb things he did so i can see why everyone exaggerates and why it has continued for so long. i don't wanna keep arguing though cause it's just like if we were trying to stand up for two different religions, there will be no winner lol man to man though ( sorry if you're a woman haha) we can both agree he was not a very good president and i think we can leave it at that.
Amen..I do not see the point in continuing to argue. Yes I am a man, lol..Sorry though, I do believe he was a good President, he just had a few faults. Thank you though, for ending this argument, because you are right to compare it to arguing over a religion..Great Analogy!
@ftballqb85 How can we let it go when the issues raised on that day are still controlling us today? The argument over the mosque near the WTC. bin Laden isn't even wanted for the WTC; bush himself said he's not concerned about him. Where is the official determination of what happened 9-11? I don't know what happened that day, but I do know that what we've heard on fox news is not what happened, and there are enough discrepancies between the news/official version & debunkers to investigate.
@ftballqb85 He did more than that - Patriot Act, removing civil liberties & long-standing American legal tradition. Military Commissions Act. Geo Warner Authorization Act. Most people have no idea the effect of his presidency in undermining our country. He baked our cake. Now Obama is just putting the icing on the cake, finishing up a few loose ends while taking vacations, sending his wife to visit relatives (King & Queen of Spain).
You Bush supporters obviously have no clue what it feels like to be left stranded by the Pres in we needed it the most. I remember seeing Air force one fly over Wed Aug 31 and on that Friday, watching him give a speech from a blacked-out Jefferson cathedral (using a generator to support the lighting and other equipment).. It is a joke to think he really cared about New Orleans at all. I lost everything I owned that day except for the shorts and shirt I had on for a week...
As a New Orleans native... I know how much Bush "cared for our country" with the technology and communication we have today. How could we not get food, water and other basic treatment and supplies to the 1800 sum-odd amount of people who were more or less left for dead. I challenge anybody to argue with me here. I was in New Orleans for 4 days after Katrina doing search and rescue... and the different ways I saw people die was absolutely mind numbing.
I don't understand how people can say he is scared or has to wait for more info... As President, when you find out your own country is under attack, YOU IMMEDIATELY STOP READING TO CHILDREN, hop on air force one (which has communication capabilities in case your not aware) and get back to the office to regain some kind of control instead of putting children as the back drop to your speech..
I don't see how getting up at that moment would've changed anything. As for the part where you say he wasn't worried about the children. It was his Presidential responsability to address the nation at that time. Bush(who I disliked as a president) did all he could do on that day. Quit making him out to be lazy or scared. He was neither. You know how hard it would be to be in control of a nation that had just been attacked like this?
Realize that you have the benefit of hindsight. He did not. For all anyone knew, this was the beginning of an invasion (and in fact two more planes were still in the air at this time). If you believe that in the event of another country declaring war on us that the President becomes powerless to do anything and is therefore excused to sit on his hands and read childrens stories while the world explodes around him, then why bother having a president at all? Neither lazy nor scared. Incompetent.
Once again you're not thinking. There was absolutely nothing he could've done. Name one thing he could've done that changes anything that morning. NOTHING. Think about what he was doing, that was the perfect place for him to sit and think about what he was going to do. Getting up right then changes nothing.
AGAIN, HE DIDN'T KNOW what was happening that morning, and he didn't even bother to find out. THAT is the issue. Yes, in hindsight, had he of actually done anything but sit there, the events of that day would likely have gone unchanged.
BUT HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT. For all he knew, this was just the beginning of an invasion.
Yea, but in his mind (or so I would think), that classroom (where kids aren't old enough to read his facial expressions and demeanor) was a place he could think quietly and wait for more intelligence from his staff. He did the same thing in that classroom as he would have if he had left. And he has to think about his security, you never know what Alan really told him. He said" the 2nd tower has been hit, we are under attack." never know if he told pres to sit tight and let me find out more info
Now you're making assumptions not in evidence (assuming he is plotting his response based upon no more information than what Andrew Card whispered in his ear for less than 2 seconds.)
But you also assume that he thought it was the start of an invasion. I'm just mirroring your steps. I'm done debating this. It just makes me ill that you assume he folded under the pressure and that he should've done something right then. What could he have done? He WAS scared, Americans had died on his watch. I'm sure he was using that time to compose himself, just like you and I did.
Your very dull, anti-piercing point has been made. I don't understand it, and I also question why, 8 years later, you are speculating why he didn't get out of a elementary school classroom. If he could go back again, he would probably do the same thing. Getting up wouldn't have helped. That's my point. I think it has some validity to it.
@BI30 Exactly. He didn't know. Or did he? His actions suggest he knew what was going on. Later he said he watched the 1st plane (one terrible pilot). So he watched the 1st plane hit - thinking it was bad pilot - then went into the classroom where he was told the 2nd plane hit? Then he just sat there? INEXCUSABLE & those 7 minutes tell the whole story. I just can't understand what is so difficult about it - why do people love any version of the gov or fox news or cnn, et al. are you a lawyer?
@BI30 Sorry if I'm behind the times on this timeline, but here's my interpretation of the facts of the day ... Bush knew (1) NORAD conducting drills w/ Canada, simulating highjack of planes that would be flown into buildings. (2) He watched 1st plane fly into the 1st tower, ("that was one bad pilot") yet the 1st crash wasn't televised. (3) He then went to the school, (4) During the visit w/ kids, SS whispered a 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. AND HE JUST SAT THERE FOR 7 MINUTES. Is this factual?
@Marleyites I wouldn't get hung up on the "saw the first plane hit" line. I think he simply misspoke. We all saw the footage on TV *after* the first hit and thought it was "one bad pilot" or an accident of some kind. The only footage of the first hit wasn't televised until days later. If someone else had filmed it, we would of seen it by now.
No one is claiming Bush could of done something to "prevent" the attacks that had ALREADY taken place that morning. But sitting there like a bump on a log, completely clueless as what to do in an emergency, was anything but Presidential. Things he should have been doing instead were spelled out in the video.
@BI30 Wasn't smart enough to even fake some kind of presidential-style action. He was told what happened, but not what to do, so he just sat there. ??
Let someone tell you that a person has just broke into your car. You still not gonna sit there for 7 freakin minutes. The video of Bush leaves us to think one of two things. 1.Either Bush is a guy who folds under pressure or 2. He really isnt the guy who is running things during times of crisis (most likely Cheney).
The poster of this video is correct, okay yes he should have gotten up and reacted sooner, but you don't need to make this video out to look like it was Bush's fault that this happened. This was directly the fault of cowardly and sub-human individuals who believe that violence towards civilians will further their religious cause. Quit blaming the US government and look at what is truly causing this.
@OnlineSpellChecker Will you please provide a link to the material that supports what you're saying? "This was directly the fault of cowardly and sub-human individuals who believe that violence towards civilians will further their religious cause." With all this talk about building the mosque at "ground zero", I'd like to see & read whatever official documentation proves this statement. It's a bold statement you make, so you must have compelling proof - proof independent of those accused. Thnx
@Marleyites Osama making an official statement taking claim for the attacks that day is my proof. The mosque at ground zero is something that I am not personally in support of. I AM in support of the freedoms that America offers us...to include the freedom to build that mosque. So as much as I don't want it there, I recognize the first amendment and will keep my mouth shut. The people of America have a right to put it there, and they are exercising it. I don't know what side you are on :)
@OnlineSpellChecker Osama didn't take credit. He disavowed the attacks as connected to him; the video we were shown was a fraud. Osama bin Laden is not even wanted by the FBI for twin tower attack. Bush even said he's not concerned about him.
well, as president, one duty, (since the sixties) is that if a commercial airliner is hi-jacked , the only person that can order it shot down by norad, is the president. we know he lied about seeing the first one on TV.(footage unavailable till the next day.)So before he went into the school, we also know he knew of the hi-jacked plane, so why continue at that point, knowing your the only one that can give the order to shoot a plane down?its REAL easy 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB. look at us now?????
When "Jell-O hardening" shows more action than a President that is just told the country whose job it is to defend is under attack, one doesn't need a degree in Political Science to know he wasn't doing what was required of him.
Ahh same diff. (: Hahaa point is that he knew about the first one and decided to wait and then the second one hit and he just sat there like dude wtf? My three-year old brother could run a country better than him (He is really smart tho haha)
Bush was a lazy incompetent jackass. Had he taken the initiative seven minutes earlier to fly hither and yon around the country for the rest of the day not knowing what to do, I doubt anything would have turned out differently.
Look what he did after those seven minutes, and you'll see the plain and obvious truth that Bush was stunned and didn't know what to do. It's not heartlessness or malice but just plain old being overwhelmed.
dude, you speak as if he doesnt have an army, an airforce, or anyone whos job is to handle these situations. Have you ever heard of norad? if not, you should look it up, cause clearly you are one dumb mother fucker. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS MAKE A PHONE CALL AND SAY SHOOT THEM DOWN. AND IT WASNT JUST 2 PLANES,IT WAS 4. overwhelmed. you are irrelevent, and an enabler. lives dont mean nothing to you or a rich spoiled cunt like bush.you should be ashamed of your retarded annalysis.
in other vid's one of the kid's words that they had 2 read was "plane" jus a lil suspicious.....other that having pres Bush launch 100 military planes in to the air 2 take down 3 cmercial planes??
Wow hellasow... are you really done? I'm amazed. I didn't think it would ever happen. And just as I was about to give up on you myself... ah well. Tell you what, that was a serious drubbing you took... we both know it... and the facts you lack confirm it. But I've been harsh, and don't deny that either. Therefore... if you wish, the final word is yours...
to all ....bush and the rest of the world at 929am thought this was a terroist attack that killed a few hundred people...and isolated to the twin towers at 937am the pentagon was attacked and the building fell at 10am and 1030am making this a much more serious incident. what do you think clinton did when the wtc was atacked the 1st time? or the oklahoma city bombings?
at 929am he was giving a press conference as your vid shows on what he found out and it was not that serious til the pentagon was attacked at 937am and the towers fell at 10am and 1030am. if it ended with just a few hunderd people dying it would of probably been widely forgoten as the oklahama city bombings and the 1st wtc attack and uss cole was...also terroist bombing of pam am flight 103 killed 270 largely forgotten...your hindsight is not even that good. so what am i to look up?
If knowing that two planes crashed into the WTC... people were leaping to their deaths... the FAA and NORAD had just told you two more hijacked planes were still in the air... and your chief of staff has just said in your ear "we're under attack"... doesn't rank as serious, I don't know what does. As for every one of those other very *well* remembered terrorist events, each got IMMEDIATE response from the White House...
he did not know people were leaping to thier deaths ... 9:26 a.m. — 4,452 planes are flying in the continental US...norad and the FAA knew there were 2 PLANE hijacked really? did the have hijack decoder rings?
NORAD reports knowing about the first hijack at 8:40 am and the second at 8:43. The third, they claim at 9:24 but still before 9:26, though both the Pentagon and NORAD had two F-15s scrambling at 8:50. The FAA sent a warning to ALL airliners about the multiple hijackings at 9 am. And you're still saying that didn't suggest canceling a photo op reading a book about ducks?
EVERYBODY knew people were jumping... it started minutes after the first plane hit and kept going steadily for the next 102 minutes, for a total of some 200 jumpers. It was on CNN, Fox, and every other news channel for all of the 39 minutes leading up to that press conference.
at 929am bush is giving a press conference as this vid shows, bush thinks the 2 planes is the whole terrorist plot(and evreyone else does too)...and there is no expectation that he should be doing anything more...the building did not fall til 10am and 1030am and the pentagon was hit at 937am and then the decision to scramble jets was made when the incident seem to justify action...so the 7 minute thing is just bush bashers just happy to push some blame on him.
What's this thing about how anybody is "happy" about pushing blame on Bush? Millions around the world would have been a hell of a lot happier had he actually read and acted on the security memo about Bin Laden planning an attack on America that was handed to him a month earlier... we would have been happier still if he hadn't swindled his way into the office in the first place. And to think that, after the EIGHT years of boneheaded response to this very crisis... you might consider that too.
you seem "happy" to bash bush at least 3 times and to post a video about it explianing how poor a job he think he did. to micro inspect 7 minutes of his presidency...again what should of he done in those 7 minutes you had 7 years to think about it so must have some great thing he should of done...i would love to hear this great thing he should of done...
You've just heard it. Three times. What is there left for you not to get? And good God... please... to "micro-inspect 7 minutes of his presidency?" He spent the next SEVEN years reeling from the inadequate response that he failed to make in those seven minutes. What's more, he spent the same period referencing that crisis... and blaming that crisis himself... for just about every other failure of his grossly inadequate administration.
i heard what 3 times?...i agree that his policies were scary to americans and freedom. as he help use this incident to take to much control. but these 7 minutes mean nothing. as to TRY to insult me as if i am an idiot just undermines your points as you have you have nothing to offer other than name calling.
Wait a minute pal... first of all, I haven't called you a name once. I did, however, express frustration that you continue to ask for "what he should have done" and than not even acknowledge that a clear answer was offered. If you don't like that answer, so be it. But stop asking me for one as if I haven't offered it. Second of all, you're the one who has been tossing around "Bush Hater" since the start of this. Not that it's a name that would embarrass me, but it's name-calling nonetheless.
"Bush Hater" is two words. That's factual too. Of course, you were using the term before you were directly addressing me or had heard enough from me to make that conclusion. What's more, true or not, you used it to categorize and dismiss my arguments before listening to them... that's name-calling by any definition.
the main point is what he did in these 7 minutes is pointless at 929am he was giving a press briefing and the incident was still not that bad. at 937 am when the pentagon was attacked and the towers fell at 10and 1030am is when it became a really bad attack. if it was only 2 planes that kiled a few hundred people there would not be a major problem. the towers fell on live TV that the public excepted major retaliation. clinton could only lob missles cuz that is what the public would accept
As a main point, that's ridiculous. Suppose someone smashed a plane into your house or the office where you work... and you then learned more planes were headed for the homes of your friends and family? Still sound "not that bad" to you?
well if i had a family of 300million people and thousand die evrey day. the lost of a few hundred is not welcome but your don't jump and react at evrey bad thing....what do you think clinton did when he heard about the oklahoma bombings?
I don't think, I know. He heard about it as he was starting a meeting with the Turkish Prime Minister over attacks on Kurds in Northern Iraq. He sent Leon Panetta to find and charge Janet Reno with overseeing a full Federal Response. Then he sent the head of FEMA to the scene, met with the OK Governor and members of a delegation from the OK state congress. Then he hand wrote a national address that he delivered at 5:15 that afternoon. There are still holes and mishandlings, but he acted.
ok you did not post this vid so don't side step the question what should of bush done in those 7 minutes you had 7 years to think about it so this should be mindblowing...guess what you will not respond since there is nothing that needed to be done!!!
Are you kidding? You're kidding. I'm sure. You must be. "B" would have made me feel good because it would have made sense. "A" did NOT make me feel good because it didn't. And, again, if taking action that's prescribed by one's constitutional duties in a time of crisis "accomplishes nothing"... then we've got problems a LOT bigger than duck books and lame duck presidents.
constitutional duties yea i must of missed the part where it says what a president should do it two planes crash into a building. there is no constitutional duties refering to this since planes were not invented when it was written!!!
I've got the sneaking suspicion you've missed a lot more than that. Al Qeda didn't exist when the constitution was written either. Nor did Iran or Iraq. Or subprime mortgages, Citicorp and AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, electricity, oil dependency and OPEC, or a heck of a lot of other things. But the foresight of the forefathers is that the constitution is written to cover the general powers of State and the freedoms of the people. Read it. It might be good for you.
where does it say president MUST DO THIS IF XYZ HAPPENS. it say no where that the presidet has to leave his seat if the country is attack...is this is just nonsence to say it is so. as much nonsence that he must do anything in these 7 minutes. noone was posting there outrage a month after this attacked happened. it is years after when they did not like how bush went into iraq and the post war did not go well. then the second guessing became popular
How about Section 1, Clause 8 where his Oath of Office that he must take explicitly requires that he pledge to "preserve, protect, and defend"... or maybe you'd prefer Section 2, Clause 1 where he's required to serve as commander and chief of the Army and Navy and US Militia, certainly relevant -- again -- after he has been explicitly told "we're under attack"... which is exactly what happened prior to those 7 minutes.
You're hopeless. Military planes were IN the air. The Pentagon was ON alert. There had been, at that time NO plane hijackings in the US in 10 years, and none fatal since 1987... and suddenly, as of 9 am, they knew of at least 3 certain hijackings... plus, in that classroom moment that not one but TWO planes had crashed into two of America's tallest buildings in of our most populated cities after going "rogue" in one of the world's most crowded airspaces.
if you asked bill clinton if bush was comitting treason for not responding the way you wanted him too. what do you think his responce would be? it would be a hell no. since he is a reasonable person and you take this small matter and blow it up to be treason. why do you do it? becase you can hide behind your computer . well have a good life hating on bush i wasted enuf time on you...
Note, I didn't say "treason" you did. However, Clinton WAS asked and... while he said he didn't want to criticize bush directly... and certainly wouldn't have called it "treason" which requires an actual attempt to overthrow the government... he, from what even you can't deny is an informed perspective since he was also president for two terms and faced the terrorism issue, found extreme weaknesses in the Bush response.
jack why dont you blame clinton for not going after the terrorist after they attacked the WTC in 1993 was that a big enough memo for bill clinton? there are thousands of memo that the president get evrey year about how this and that place will be attacked by terroist including plane buses cars trucks at airports cities ect ect....hindsight is 20/20 and guess what even your hindsight can tell me what bush should of been doing in those 7 minutes you had 7 year to think...
Sigh... I'm sure you have good qualities, but paying attention isn't one of them. Clinton wasn't perfect either. But you must have missed his cruise missile attack on six Al Qeda sites in Afghanistan... plus same in Sudan... his funding of CIA ops to go after him... and, most of all, the GOP claims then that he was "too obsessed" with getting Al Qeda. Clinton's response? Not excuses, but an apology that Bin Laden wasn't dead by the end of his term. I don't remember Bush offering us the same.
I still can't believe how inept and stupid w was. Also secret service completely fell apart. I guess they could not believe he was still sitting there. I hope w burns in hell for eternity. (wish there was a hell)
Just keep in mind that while you ponder over such pointless priorities, thousands of your fellow citizens and foreigners abroad, who don't even know you are, are putting their lives, family, and well being in harm's way to give you the time and security to make fools of yourselves. God Bless Us all and forgive those who take this life for granted.
You people are ignorant and it's a shame how much you take the United States for granted and the very freedoms of speech you so carelessly use to satisfy your desire to create controversy and be heard. You can ponder days months and years about what has happened and analyze it every which way you want.
How is demanding action from our leaders "taking the United States" for granted? And how does this "create" controversy? The controversy exists all on its own. The feverish debate over this, seven years later, is the symptom not the cause. To question leaders is to honor those lives lost on the battlefield. To ignore that responsibility, is to mock what our fallen have fought for. And jjonesy11, for that we should not stand.
when you try to blame bush for this. you just pushing bad action of others (terrorist) on someone you hate (bush)...tell me what bad thing happened while he read this book that he could of prevented? and what he should of done that would made it better? and don't say he should of done something...in you clear 20/20 hindsight you will still not be able to come up with anything...i am not a bush supporter your just a hater and this make you feel better about yourself.
The military was already acting, the only approval they need from the President directly is the release of nuclear weapons, not to put planes in the sky or deploy soldiers in a crisis situation.
President Bush was obviously very limited in what information he had or else he would've left immediately and secret service would have informed him further rather than a brief statement.
Just whose fault was it that he was "very limited in what information he had"? Think maybe getting up to find out what was going on might of changed that?
what does it matter where he is? he is in contact with the whole world where ever he is? would it make ya feel better if he was in his limo? am i mistaken or is the person that told the president that "we were under attack" smiling a few minutes later of to the side as the camera pans to the left...he did not seem that worried either...
Well... considering the limo even then was an armor-plated custom Cadillac Deville with full communications tech, room for Bush and six advisors, a secure space to talk, and a pop-up desk where he could get to work... yes, I wish he had put the book down and gone to the limo. Do you have kids? I don't care who you are... you're not in contact with the world when they're demanding your attention. Perched in that chair, he was a babysitter... not the leader of the free world.
pres bush was not a baby sister he was just an observer. when his aids wanted to talk to him they had no problem going over to them and talking to him...the kids were not demanding his attention
I don't know if you drink when you post or just can't type... but I don't want to be credited with calling Bush a "baby sister" as you've written. Also, I'm getting the impression that repeating the obvious for you is just something that isn't going to sink in. But against my better judgment, let's try this one more time. Choice A: Read duck book or Choice B: Excuse himself to immediately go to the limo, patch into the security counsel, and get to work on protecting the country. Gee... B?
re: I have never drank a drop of alchol (sic) in my life... maybe you should start.
Wait... you're telling me that "b" (excusing himself to get into immediate contact with his security counsel to do his real job, for which he was paid $400K per year... accomplishes "nothing?" The irony is, for once might be right... because Bush notoriously accomplished nothing for the full two terms.)
excusing himself to get into immediate contact with his security counsel......
what does that accomplish?
do you not see the offocial that told bush of the plane attacks off to the side smiling a few minutes later? does he seem that concerned? at 929am when he is giving the press conference should he be talking to his top secret advisors?
You people are disgusting. You act strictly on emotions and don't use your own intelligence . President Bush kept his composure under circumstances you can't just talking about. You still haven't answered the question "what was he to do?" Emergency responses to our nations threats are implemented by the President but don't need his direct approval to begin you idiots.
How is reading the book my pet duck keeping his composure. He sat there and did nothing while the country was under attack her should have got his ass back to DC and acted like a president
It's a matter of moral, not operational, issues. He should have at least ACTED like it was his job. He didn't. He sat and read a book while hundreds died. Did he check to see what was happening? Did he show any motion of responsibility? No, he sat and read the book. He didn't keep composure! He froze and did nothing! That's the exact opposite.
P.S. I just want to make one small correction... you meant "thousands." Let's be sure to help these guys by emphasizing the enormity of it all. Also, to whomever equated sitting and reading in a crisis to "composure"... my uncle was a pulmonary surgeon. Would it have been "composure" to ignore his beeper during countless interrupted holiday dinners?
Bush-Cult Apologistas, the levels you will go to to apologize for your cult leader is astounding.
Bush-Cult Apologistas, it is historical fact that while president Bush sat reading "The Pet Goat" people were jumping to their death from World Trade Center One.
useful to understand the
Bush-Cult Apologistas actions is Steve Hassan's B.I.T.E. model for studying cults.
And had a "fireside chats" of sorts, explaining to the country as best as possible what happened and what to expect and that fear will only worsen, and we need to pull together as a nation and help and volunteeer etc etc.
He could have gone out with some admiration, people are willing to forgive. But there is hardly anything? At the G8 he shamefully does not shake hands, looks down, and.... this scares the f..k out of me. If there was any time for a mission acompl. moment it is now.
Reliableinsider hit the truth. I think the first decisions he made were based on cheny's suggestions. Later he did go against cheny's advice and return to washington. The other thing is (as B130 mentions) why T F give a press conference with the Kids. They were thinking "photo op" before "reassure the nation". Amazing. Just like now. Financial meltdown, confusion, fear, and there is hardley any leadership. Bush could have used this to his advantage and gone out with some respect.
The frightening the children" said by many is referring to the "seven minutes" not the press conference.
If Bush's response was so horrible, why did the teacher say that she thought his resolve in this situation will go down as one of the great moments of his presidency?
So back in the classroom, "frightening the children" was why Bush didn't leave, but during the press conference, suddenly it was OK to scare the crap out of everyone?
(Conservative logic is so convenient.)
As for the teachers comment, who the heck was going to criticize the President on THE DAY we were attacked by terrorists? You forget the mood at the time.
No the teachers comment was made months afterword when people like you started to say that Bush's just sitting there was soooo bad.
By the time of the press conference everyone had known about what happened. He wasn't scaring anyone in the P.C. He was doing what he is supposed to do.
I suggest you *listen* to the video again for the *gasps* and looks of surprise on the kids faces as he springs the news on them.
I know how DESPERATELY Bush apologists want to believe their hero isn't really the clueless moron recorded in these videos, but such is not the case. QED.
The kids faces seemed pretty normal to me. Just brief mumbling in the background. As a matter of fact, that little girl in the bottom right has a stone cold poker face!
I know how DESPERATELY Bush bashers want to believe an american hero is a clueless moron, but such is not the case.
I'm trying to figure out your point here. First, you argued Bush "didn't want to frighten the children", and now that he *clearly* blurted out the news without concern for their welfare, thus PROVING that wasn't the reason he sat there motionless for seven minutes, it doesn't matter because "they don't look traumatized"???
So then, what's your excuse NOW for why he sat there paralyzed for 7 minutes after being told the country he swore an oath to defend not 8 months before was under attack?
Well i believe my last posts point was that ur statement about the supposed "gaspes" and "looks of surprise on the kids faces" were not there.
Seems logical to me to assume that by this time, the children had been explained what had happened already.
Do you have ADD or dyslexia? U asked me to re watch the video for the proof that the kids were frightened and so i did and then told u in the last post what i saw.
"So then, what's your excuse NOW for why he sat there paralyzed for 7 minutes after being told the country he swore an oath to defend not 8 months before was under attack?"
I believe we have discussed this before. Would you like to circle around and start again?
theres no logic to your explanation here...When a head of state is threatened with attack or his country he doesnt sit around and read Humpty friggin Dumpty to resolve the crises, especially in a Nuclear age..For one the Secret Service would have usherd him out to safety...and safety comes before wondering if the kids will get upset caus
It was SEVEN FREAKING MINUTES!!!! SEVEN!!!! ITS NOT LIKE WE"RE TALKING HOURS!!!!! YOU REALLY THINK HE COULD MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION IN SEVEN MINUTES?!?!?
halliehater 5 months ago
@halliehater Tell ya what. I'll set your house on fire with you wait inside for seven minutes deciding how to react.
And I'm not sure just how "informed" of a decision one can make when they DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON.
Bush apologists make me sick.
BI30 5 months ago

What an f-tard.
bushputz 5 months ago
Bush "didn't want to frighten the children!" as you put it. It's a good thing he didn't get up and leave. On Time's website there's an article that includes interviews with some of the kids that were there, looking back on it. One thought when seeing Bush's expression, "...did we read something wrong?" Another commented, "...I'm just glad he didn't get up and leave, because then I would have been more scared and confused." They were 6 and 7. Just think and try to put yourself in their shoes.
77777Blackjack77777 5 months ago

He had a good heart, but I think Cheney took advantage of that, along with PNAC just look them up & "Pearl Harbor"

hi folks, i have only read the first sentence in the top comment on this page - (from dogfather0308)....and i am blown away at the naivety of 'some' people in our
country......how is it possible for anyone to even imagine a defence like ".....there
was nothing that any president could have done..." i really don't want to sound
cruel....but i think that fainting....or having a heart attack/failure would be far more
excusable than the casual reaction mr. bush displayed.
bina1rani 7 months ago
I get your point, but there was nothing that any president could have done during those seven minutes to change the outcome. If we want to point fingers, let's look at his previous eight months in office, not just those seven minutes. Or maybe we could look at the previous eight years before he even took office when we had plenty of warnings and opportunities that were ignored. We could even look at 1977-1993 and find three more commanders-in-chief whose foreign policy played a role in 9/11.
DogFather0808 7 months ago
@DogFather0808 Here's the problem: you say, "There's nothing any president could have done during those seven minutes." You know that NOW, and only with hindsight. HE DIDN'T. At that time, HE KNEW NOTHING. An invasion? Who knows? Worse, HE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO FIND OUT if anything could be done. Maybe there was nothing he could of done. Fine. But by not moving his ass out of his chair to find out, he instead left his country leaderless after being told it was "under attack".

@x331x I guarantee you that if something like 9/11 happened when Reagan was president, he wouldn't have sat around and red to school children. He would have got his ass back to washington and tried to see what could be done.
mikancyclone 1 year ago
@x331x How did he know the damage? He knew enough that it was a bad situation. "We're under attack." or "We're at war." What more would someone have to say to get him to take action ... to find out what was going on, what happened, what needed to be done next, etc. H wasn't curious?
No excuse except that he knew the damage was done, just as you say. Exactly our point.

Bushs reaction doesnt seem to match what the Cheif of Staff whispered to him. (Were under attack)
Im thinking more along the lines of "Operation complete"
Bush already knew what was happening before he stepped foot in that classroom.
That why he said he saw the first plane on tv, even though the 1st plane wasnt aired on tv until the next day.

Bush finds out about terrorist attack.
Bush: Really?
Staff: Yes.
Bush: Quick! To Air Force One!!!
Kids: Where is he going?
Bush: Hurry! We must not waste time! We have to....wait. And wait! Until we find out more news! And make sure they're not attacking the White House!
Stuff: Uuuhhh. Mr. President. The school was wondering what happened?
Bush: Shush! There's no time! They don't deserve an explanation. They'll find out eventually!!!

how is this scaring the children??.he acted calm and collected and showed strength to the children without panicing to freak them out...you try to take anything and turn it around on him..he kept our country safe from terrorist attacks since 9/11 so there isn't much more to say than he did a good job!
bink456 2 years ago
Funny how an hour later, he's "calm and collected", yet somehow, he was incapable of doing this very thing just minutes earlier without "scaring the children".
"He kept this country safe"... so long as you don't count that one nasty terrorist attack on 9/11, the anthrax attacks a week later, the 4,000 dead soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan, and the 1,600 dead in New Orleans that left dead bodies floating in the streets. Except for ALL THAT, yeah, he "kept us safe". Moron.
BI30 2 years ago
As for the 4000 in Iraq and Afghanistan, there has been no draft, they knew the risks of joining the service, and people will always die on war..and without war, we would have never become a country..As for New Orleans, they had plenty of warning ahead of time to GET OUT!
bink456 2 years ago
It's okay if soldiers die in an unnecessary war based on a lie if they're volunteers, not draftees??? And might I remind you that most National Guard "volunteers" didn't sign up for full overseas deployment for years (or they would have just joined the Army). And then there's "Stop Loss" keeping soldiers there against their will... a backdoor "draft".
On N.O., "getting out" requires money. Money for transportation, and a place to stay. These people had no place to go and no way to get there.
BI30 2 years ago
#bink456
This is a very heartless and naive statement. I was in the military, and had to volunteer for Iraq, so that a friend could be at home to see his baby born. Swearing an oath to protect the citizens from threats foreign and domestic does not entail going to unrelated lands and killing innocent people. You have a heartless outlook which helps you accept what has been told to you. You obediently serve the system. You would probably send your own child off to a war which was not ours.

You all need to stop living in the Bush-Blaming past and come to realize that Obama is not doing anything better..If you have a problem with the war, then you need to ask yourself, "Who is the President now?"
bink456 1 year ago
@bink456 Obama is carry Bush's job forward. Bush & crew should be investigated by an impartial, independent commission. Obama was born in Kenya & is not eligible for office. True patriots that believe in the integrity of America & the Constitution as rule of law agree with these points.

I think that you could even agree with me on that.
bink456 1 year ago

Thank you though, for ending this argument, because you are right to compare it to arguing over a religion..Great Analogy!
bink456 1 year ago
@ftballqb85 How can we let it go when the issues raised on that day are still controlling us today? The argument over the mosque near the WTC. bin Laden isn't even wanted for the WTC; bush himself said he's not concerned about him. Where is the official determination of what happened 9-11? I don't know what happened that day, but I do know that what we've heard on fox news is not what happened, and there are enough discrepancies between the news/official version & debunkers to investigate.
Marleyites 1 year ago
@bink456 Why would you want to stop "attacks" on G. Bush before the truth is known about what happened on 9-11?
Marleyites 1 year ago
@ftballqb85 He did more than that - Patriot Act, removing civil liberties & long-standing American legal tradition. Military Commissions Act. Geo Warner Authorization Act. Most people have no idea the effect of his presidency in undermining our country. He baked our cake. Now Obama is just putting the icing on the cake, finishing up a few loose ends while taking vacations, sending his wife to visit relatives (King & Queen of Spain).

(Part 3)
You Bush supporters obviously have no clue what it feels like to be left stranded by the Pres in we needed it the most. I remember seeing Air force one fly over Wed Aug 31 and on that Friday, watching him give a speech from a blacked-out Jefferson cathedral (using a generator to support the lighting and other equipment).. It is a joke to think he really cared about New Orleans at all. I lost everything I owned that day except for the shorts and shirt I had on for a week...
austinsrefugee 2 years ago
(Part 2)
As a New Orleans native... I know how much Bush "cared for our country" with the technology and communication we have today. How could we not get food, water and other basic treatment and supplies to the 1800 sum-odd amount of people who were more or less left for dead. I challenge anybody to argue with me here. I was in New Orleans for 4 days after Katrina doing search and rescue... and the different ways I saw people die was absolutely mind numbing.
austinsrefugee 2 years ago

You know how hard it would be to be in control of a nation that had just been attacked like this?
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
Realize that you have the benefit of hindsight. He did not. For all anyone knew, this was the beginning of an invasion (and in fact two more planes were still in the air at this time). If you believe that in the event of another country declaring war on us that the President becomes powerless to do anything and is therefore excused to sit on his hands and read childrens stories while the world explodes around him, then why bother having a president at all? Neither lazy nor scared. Incompetent.
BI30 2 years ago
Once again you're not thinking. There was absolutely nothing he could've done. Name one thing he could've done that changes anything that morning. NOTHING. Think about what he was doing, that was the perfect place for him to sit and think about what he was going to do. Getting up right then changes nothing.
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
I believe it is YOU that is "not thinking".
BI30 2 years ago
Yea, but in his mind (or so I would think), that classroom (where kids aren't old enough to read his facial expressions and demeanor) was a place he could think quietly and wait for more intelligence from his staff. He did the same thing in that classroom as he would have if he had left. And he has to think about his security, you never know what Alan really told him. He said" the 2nd tower has been hit, we are under attack." never know if he told pres to sit tight and let me find out more info
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
Now you're making assumptions not in evidence (assuming he is plotting his response based upon no more information than what Andrew Card whispered in his ear for less than 2 seconds.)
BI30 2 years ago
But you also assume that he thought it was the start of an invasion. I'm just mirroring your steps. I'm done debating this. It just makes me ill that you assume he folded under the pressure and that he should've done something right then. What could he have done? He WAS scared, Americans had died on his watch. I'm sure he was using that time to compose himself, just like you and I did.
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
Wow, you REALLY don't read, do you? If anything, I pointed out that he DIDN'T even consider that it might be the start of an invasion.
HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON,AND DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO FIND OUT.
If you don't get that by now, I can't help you.
BI30 2 years ago
Your very dull, anti-piercing point has been made. I don't understand it, and I also question why, 8 years later, you are speculating why he didn't get out of a elementary school classroom. If he could go back again, he would probably do the same thing. Getting up wouldn't have helped. That's my point. I think it has some validity to it.
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
@BI30 Exactly. He didn't know. Or did he? His actions suggest he knew what was going on. Later he said he watched the 1st plane (one terrible pilot). So he watched the 1st plane hit - thinking it was bad pilot - then went into the classroom where he was told the 2nd plane hit? Then he just sat there? INEXCUSABLE & those 7 minutes tell the whole story. I just can't understand what is so difficult about it - why do people love any version of the gov or fox news or cnn, et al. are you a lawyer?
Marleyites 1 year ago
Marleyites 1 year ago
@Marleyites I wouldn't get hung up on the "saw the first plane hit" line. I think he simply misspoke. We all saw the footage on TV *after* the first hit and thought it was "one bad pilot" or an accident of some kind. The only footage of the first hit wasn't televised until days later. If someone else had filmed it, we would of seen it by now.

true but this video still doesn't prove the fact that he could even do anything even if he was there hes a man let alone an old man hes useless.
whoyoube305 2 years ago
No one is claiming Bush could of done something to "prevent" the attacks that had ALREADY taken place that morning. But sitting there like a bump on a log, completely clueless as what to do in an emergency, was anything but Presidential. Things he should have been doing instead were spelled out in the video.
BI30 2 years ago
Oh alright.

He really isnt the guy who is running things during times of crisis (most likely Cheney).
rrmond 2 years ago 2
The poster of this video is correct, okay yes he should have gotten up and reacted sooner, but you don't need to make this video out to look like it was Bush's fault that this happened. This was directly the fault of cowardly and sub-human individuals who believe that violence towards civilians will further their religious cause. Quit blaming the US government and look at what is truly causing this.
OnlineSpellChecker 2 years ago
@OnlineSpellChecker Will you please provide a link to the material that supports what you're saying? "This was directly the fault of cowardly and sub-human individuals who believe that violence towards civilians will further their religious cause." With all this talk about building the mosque at "ground zero", I'd like to see & read whatever official documentation proves this statement. It's a bold statement you make, so you must have compelling proof - proof independent of those accused. Thnx
Marleyites 1 year ago
@Marleyites Osama making an official statement taking claim for the attacks that day is my proof. The mosque at ground zero is something that I am not personally in support of. I AM in support of the freedoms that America offers us...to include the freedom to build that mosque. So as much as I don't want it there, I recognize the first amendment and will keep my mouth shut. The people of America have a right to put it there, and they are exercising it. I don't know what side you are on :)
OnlineSpellChecker 1 year ago
@OnlineSpellChecker Osama didn't take credit. He disavowed the attacks as connected to him; the video we were shown was a fraud. Osama bin Laden is not even wanted by the FBI for twin tower attack. Bush even said he's not concerned about him.
Marleyites 1 year ago
well, as president, one duty, (since the sixties) is that if a commercial airliner is hi-jacked , the only person that can order it shot down by norad, is the president. we know he lied about seeing the first one on TV.(footage unavailable till the next day.)So before he went into the school, we also know he knew of the hi-jacked plane, so why continue at that point, knowing your the only one that can give the order to shoot a plane down?its REAL easy 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB. look at us now?????

When "Jell-O hardening" shows more action than a President that is just told the country whose job it is to defend is under attack, one doesn't need a degree in Political Science to know he wasn't doing what was required of him.
BI30 2 years ago
When his secret service told him what had happened you could just see it on his face "Shit, They're on to us."
x872ax 2 years ago
Minor correction: the person whispering in Bush's ear is Andrew Card, his Chief of Staff at the time.
BI30 2 years ago
Ahh same diff. (: Hahaa point is that he knew about the first one and decided to wait and then the second one hit and he just sat there like dude wtf? My three-year old brother could run a country better than him (He is really smart tho haha)
x872ax 2 years ago
Bush was a lazy incompetent jackass. Had he taken the initiative seven minutes earlier to fly hither and yon around the country for the rest of the day not knowing what to do, I doubt anything would have turned out differently.
Look what he did after those seven minutes, and you'll see the plain and obvious truth that Bush was stunned and didn't know what to do. It's not heartlessness or malice but just plain old being overwhelmed.
Let Bush's awful record speak for itself.
This is irrelevant.

Wow hellasow... are you really done? I'm amazed. I didn't think it would ever happen. And just as I was about to give up on you myself... ah well. Therefore... if you wish, the final word is yours...
jackster1212 3 years ago
to all ....bush and the rest of the world at 929am thought this was a terroist attack that killed a few hundred people...and isolated to the twin towers at 937am the pentagon was attacked and the building fell at 10am and 1030am making this a much more serious incident. what do you think clinton did when the wtc was atacked the 1st time? or the oklahoma city bombings?
hellasow 3 years ago
Maybe you should just look it up?
BI30 3 years ago
at 929am he was giving a press conference as your vid shows on what he found out and it was not that serious til the pentagon was attacked at 937am and the towers fell at 10am and 1030am. if it ended with just a few hunderd people dying it would of probably been widely forgoten as the oklahama city bombings and the 1st wtc attack and uss cole was...also terroist bombing of pam am flight 103 killed 270 largely forgotten...your hindsight is not even that good. so what am i to look up?
hellasow 3 years ago
If knowing that two planes crashed into the WTC... people were leaping to their deaths... the FAA and NORAD had just told you two more hijacked planes were still in the air... and your chief of staff has just said in your ear "we're under attack"... doesn't rank as serious, I don't know what does. As for every one of those other very *well* remembered terrorist events, each got IMMEDIATE response from the White House...
jackster1212 3 years ago
he did not know people were leaping to thier deaths ... 9:26 a.m. — 4,452 planes are flying in the continental US...norad and the FAA knew there were 2 PLANE hijacked really? did the have hijack decoder rings?
hellasow 3 years ago
NORAD reports knowing about the first hijack at 8:40 am and the second at 8:43. The third, they claim at 9:24 but still before 9:26, though both the Pentagon and NORAD had two F-15s scrambling at 8:50. The FAA sent a warning to ALL airliners about the multiple hijackings at 9 am. And you're still saying that didn't suggest canceling a photo op reading a book about ducks?
jackster1212 3 years ago
EVERYBODY knew people were jumping... it started minutes after the first plane hit and kept going steadily for the next 102 minutes, for a total of some 200 jumpers. It was on CNN, Fox, and every other news channel for all of the 39 minutes leading up to that press conference.
jackster1212 3 years ago
at 929am bush is giving a press conference as this vid shows, bush thinks the 2 planes is the whole terrorist plot(and evreyone else does too)...and there is no expectation that he should be doing anything more...the building did not fall til 10am and 1030am and the pentagon was hit at 937am and then the decision to scramble jets was made when the incident seem to justify action...so the 7 minute thing is just bush bashers just happy to push some blame on him.
hellasow 3 years ago
What's this thing about how anybody is "happy" about pushing blame on Bush? Millions around the world would have been a hell of a lot happier had he actually read and acted on the security memo about Bin Laden planning an attack on America that was handed to him a month earlier... we would have been happier still if he hadn't swindled his way into the office in the first place. And to think that, after the EIGHT years of boneheaded response to this very crisis... you might consider that too.
jackster1212 3 years ago
you seem "happy" to bash bush at least 3 times and to post a video about it explianing how poor a job he think he did. to micro inspect 7 minutes of his presidency...again what should of he done in those 7 minutes you had 7 years to think about it so must have some great thing he should of done...i would love to hear this great thing he should of done...
hellasow 3 years ago
You've just heard it. Three times. What is there left for you not to get? And good God... please... to "micro-inspect 7 minutes of his presidency?" He spent the next SEVEN years reeling from the inadequate response that he failed to make in those seven minutes. What's more, he spent the same period referencing that crisis... and blaming that crisis himself... for just about every other failure of his grossly inadequate administration.
jackster1212 3 years ago
i heard what 3 times?...i agree that his policies were scary to americans and freedom. as he help use this incident to take to much control. but these 7 minutes mean nothing. as to TRY to insult me as if i am an idiot just undermines your points as you have you have nothing to offer other than name calling.
hellasow 3 years ago
Wait a minute pal... first of all, I haven't called you a name once. I did, however, express frustration that you continue to ask for "what he should have done" and than not even acknowledge that a clear answer was offered. If you don't like that answer, so be it. But stop asking me for one as if I haven't offered it. Second of all, you're the one who has been tossing around "Bush Hater" since the start of this. Not that it's a name that would embarrass me, but it's name-calling nonetheless.
jackster1212 3 years ago
bush hater is a word that decribes you well. you hate bush so it is not name calling it is factual.
hellasow 3 years ago
"Bush Hater" is two words. That's factual too. Of course, you were using the term before you were directly addressing me or had heard enough from me to make that conclusion. What's more, true or not, you used it to categorize and dismiss my arguments before listening to them... that's name-calling by any definition.
jackster1212 3 years ago
the main point is what he did in these 7 minutes is pointless at 929am he was giving a press briefing and the incident was still not that bad. at 937 am when the pentagon was attacked and the towers fell at 10and 1030am is when it became a really bad attack. if it was only 2 planes that kiled a few hundred people there would not be a major problem. the towers fell on live TV that the public excepted major retaliation. clinton could only lob missles cuz that is what the public would accept
hellasow 3 years ago
As a main point, that's ridiculous. Suppose someone smashed a plane into your house or the office where you work... and you then learned more planes were headed for the homes of your friends and family? Still sound "not that bad" to you?
jackster1212 3 years ago
well if i had a family of 300million people and thousand die evrey day. the lost of a few hundred is not welcome but your don't jump and react at evrey bad thing....what do you think clinton did when he heard about the oklahoma bombings?
hellasow 3 years ago
I don't think, I know. He heard about it as he was starting a meeting with the Turkish Prime Minister over attacks on Kurds in Northern Iraq. He sent Leon Panetta to find and charge Janet Reno with overseeing a full Federal Response. Then he sent the head of FEMA to the scene, met with the OK Governor and members of a delegation from the OK state congress. Then he hand wrote a national address that he delivered at 5:15 that afternoon. There are still holes and mishandlings, but he acted.
jackster1212 3 years ago
ok you did not post this vid so don't side step the question what should of bush done in those 7 minutes you had 7 years to think about it so this should be mindblowing...guess what you will not respond since there is nothing that needed to be done!!!
hellasow 3 years ago
AHHH! I haven't sidestepped it even once. Do you actually read these things or do you just hit reply and start pounding your keyboard?
jackster1212 3 years ago
you responded which option "b" which accoplishes nothing
i guess option "b" would make ya feel good. but does nothing. i guess your more into feeling good then the actual results.
hellasow 3 years ago
Are you kidding? You're kidding. I'm sure. You must be. "B" would have made me feel good because it would have made sense. "A" did NOT make me feel good because it didn't. And, again, if taking action that's prescribed by one's constitutional duties in a time of crisis "accomplishes nothing"... then we've got problems a LOT bigger than duck books and lame duck presidents.
jackster1212 3 years ago
well choice "a" or "b" does not change anything other than making people feel that the president is doing what he should do according to them.
since it is obviously in the presidential manual if you get paid 400k you must do what jackster1212 post on a youtube coment 7 yeaars later...
hellasow 3 years ago
constitutional duties yea i must of missed the part where it says what a president should do it two planes crash into a building. there is no constitutional duties refering to this since planes were not invented when it was written!!!
hellasow 3 years ago
I've got the sneaking suspicion you've missed a lot more than that. Al Qeda didn't exist when the constitution was written either. Nor did Iran or Iraq. Or subprime mortgages, Citicorp and AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, electricity, oil dependency and OPEC, or a heck of a lot of other things. But the foresight of the forefathers is that the constitution is written to cover the general powers of State and the freedoms of the people. Read it. It might be good for you.
jackster1212 3 years ago
where does it say president MUST DO THIS IF XYZ HAPPENS. it say no where that the presidet has to leave his seat if the country is attack...is this is just nonsence to say it is so. as much nonsence that he must do anything in these 7 minutes. noone was posting there outrage a month after this attacked happened. it is years after when they did not like how bush went into iraq and the post war did not go well. then the second guessing became popular
hellasow 3 years ago
How about Section 1, Clause 8 where his Oath of Office that he must take explicitly requires that he pledge to "preserve, protect, and defend"... or maybe you'd prefer Section 2, Clause 1 where he's required to serve as commander and chief of the Army and Navy and US Militia, certainly relevant -- again -- after he has been explicitly told "we're under attack"... which is exactly what happened prior to those 7 minutes.
jackster1212 3 years ago
so what did bush not "preserve, protect, and defend" by not talking to his aids in those 7 minutes....answer nothing...
domestic planes crashing into buildings had nothing to do with the military at that time...
the public would of been horrified if we scrambled jets to gound a comercial airliner pre 9/11
when the oklahoma bombing happened or the 1st wtc attack or the pam am 103 bombing happened what military was scrambled 7 minutes afterward?
hellasow 3 years ago
You're hopeless. Military planes were IN the air. The Pentagon was ON alert. There had been, at that time NO plane hijackings in the US in 10 years, and none fatal since 1987... and suddenly, as of 9 am, they knew of at least 3 certain hijackings... plus, in that classroom moment that not one but TWO planes had crashed into two of America's tallest buildings in of our most populated cities after going "rogue" in one of the world's most crowded airspaces.
jackster1212 3 years ago
if you asked bill clinton if bush was comitting treason for not responding the way you wanted him too. what do you think his responce would be? it would be a hell no. since he is a reasonable person and you take this small matter and blow it up to be treason. why do you do it? becase you can hide behind your computer . well have a good life hating on bush i wasted enuf time on you...
hellasow 3 years ago
Note, I didn't say "treason" you did. However, Clinton WAS asked and... while he said he didn't want to criticize bush directly... and certainly wouldn't have called it "treason" which requires an actual attempt to overthrow the government... he, from what even you can't deny is an informed perspective since he was also president for two terms and faced the terrorism issue, found extreme weaknesses in the Bush response.
jackster1212 3 years ago
jack why dont you blame clinton for not going after the terrorist after they attacked the WTC in 1993 was that a big enough memo for bill clinton? there are thousands of memo that the president get evrey year about how this and that place will be attacked by terroist including plane buses cars trucks at airports cities ect ect....hindsight is 20/20 and guess what even your hindsight can tell me what bush should of been doing in those 7 minutes you had 7 year to think...
hellasow 3 years ago

God Bless Us all and forgive those who take this life for granted.
jjonesy11 3 years ago
You people are ignorant and it's a shame how much you take the United States for granted and the very freedoms of speech you so carelessly use to satisfy your desire to create controversy and be heard. You can ponder days months and years about what has happened and analyze it every which way you want.
jjonesy11 3 years ago
How is demanding action from our leaders "taking the United States" for granted? And how does this "create" controversy? The controversy exists all on its own. The feverish debate over this, seven years later, is the symptom not the cause. To question leaders is to honor those lives lost on the battlefield. To ignore that responsibility, is to mock what our fallen have fought for. And jjonesy11, for that we should not stand.
jackster1212 3 years ago
when you try to blame bush for this. you just pushing bad action of others (terrorist) on someone you hate (bush)...tell me what bad thing happened while he read this book that he could of prevented? and what he should of done that would made it better? and don't say he should of done something...in you clear 20/20 hindsight you will still not be able to come up with anything...i am not a bush supporter your just a hater and this make you feel better about yourself.

what does it matter where he is? he is in contact with the whole world where ever he is? would it make ya feel better if he was in his limo? am i mistaken or is the person that told the president that "we were under attack" smiling a few minutes later of to the side as the camera pans to the left...he did not seem that worried either...
hellasow 3 years ago
Well... considering the limo even then was an armor-plated custom Cadillac Deville with full communications tech, room for Bush and six advisors, a secure space to talk, and a pop-up desk where he could get to work... yes, I wish he had put the book down and gone to the limo. Do you have kids? I don't care who you are... you're not in contact with the world when they're demanding your attention. Perched in that chair, he was a babysitter... not the leader of the free world.

Choice A: Read duck book or Choice B: Excuse himself to immediately go to the limo, patch into the security counsel, and get to work on protecting the country. Gee... B?

Wait... you're telling me that "b" (excusing himself to get into immediate contact with his security counsel to do his real job, for which he was paid $400K per year... accomplishes "nothing?" The irony is, for once might be right... because Bush notoriously accomplished nothing for the full two terms.)
jackster1212 3 years ago
excusing himself to get into immediate contact with his security counsel......
what does that accomplish?
do you not see the offocial that told bush of the plane attacks off to the side smiling a few minutes later? does he seem that concerned? at 929am when he is giving the press conference should he be talking to his top secret advisors?

How is reading the book my pet duck keeping his composure. He sat there and did nothing while the country was under attack her should have got his ass back to DC and acted like a president
enterprise729 3 years ago
It's a matter of moral, not operational, issues. He should have at least ACTED like it was his job. He didn't. He sat and read a book while hundreds died. Did he check to see what was happening? Did he show any motion of responsibility? No, he sat and read the book. He didn't keep composure! He froze and did nothing! That's the exact opposite.

why do Americans believe they live in a free country?
one of the reasons is that they believe they have a free press, that news stations would risk advertising accounts to bring American people the truth.
"Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans."
President Bush 9-11-01
I'm sure we have noticed how hard the mainstream media has worked to expose this lie.
President Bush, was that before, during, or after reading "The Pet Goat" ?

Why do you think he's a hero?

theres no logic to your explanation here...When a head of state is threatened with attack or his country he doesnt sit around and read Humpty friggin Dumpty to resolve the crises, especially in a Nuclear age..For one the Secret Service would have usherd him out to safety...and safety comes before wondering if the kids will get upset caus
