Well jumping from a tower and playing football or hockey are 2 different things.

When you play football or Hockey you have all this protective equipment and refs to make sure no one is getting hit the wrong way(in football anyway).

NOW....when you're jumping from a bridge or or a tower that's hundreds of feet up in the air..there's 2 dangers:

1. Both Shoots(however you spell it) not deploying.

2. Where the wind will take you after you deploy the shoot.

The rescuers were the real heroes in this. Their courageousness didn't come into question. The poor girl slammed into the tower but they were over the edge to save her without a thought for themselves.
