  • instead of needlenose pliers, a strong pair of tweezers works even better!

  • Your way just saved my childhood.

  • I would laugh if he broke the whole arm off of the internal battery XP

  • Is it possible to unsolder the battery? It would seem a lot smoother...

  • It worked for me on wario land 4 it had a cr2015 battery in it but I but a 2025 in it a little cramped but it still saves

  • oh my god this is the only video where you DONT have to use the melting iron thing!! Thank you so much dude you just earned another subscriber ;)

  • u should of used the needle nose pliers not ur fingers

  • I had a new 2032 laying around and a pokemon silver with a dead battery. The 2032 works fine with this swap out as well. I'm back up and running.

  • ---does this also work out with Pokemon Blue for the GBC????---

  • @missxxcupcakeje pokemon blue is for Original Gameboy

  • @missxxcupcakeje but i suppose it would work.

  • And if you break off a tab..are you screwed?

OR! See, what happened was, I broke the top arm off. What if I flip the battery and put it against the part where the arm was coming off, then lay what was the bottom battery on top of it??

  • thats a security bit u can get them off ebay and amazon

  • I guess when you finish this work you feel like you want to insult the old battery: now you're off, ya old bitch! XD

  • anyone know the battery for pokemon emerald?

  • Thanks! this fixed my Pokemon yellow. but Pokemon red/blue/yellow uses a cr 1616 battery instead of a cr2025

  • Good tuto

  • dont buy batteries at radioshack!!! THere 5 bucks and they suck

  • WORKS!...BUT, what if i want to change the battery again before it erases my file. Will it erase once I take out the internal battery?

    that would suck

  • Should work with any cartridge with a game that can be saved, right?

  • will this work on ruby sapphire and emerald because my copy of sapphire's internal battery doesn't work =(

  • @qorkbro it will work but you will need a different battery. it's smaller than the one on gbc game. the battery has to have the same name as the original.

  • @gatmcm yeah it will. The battery is what keeps the game saved. So if you take it off then it will loose all the data.

  • Any help with a damaged screw?

  • 11:32 This part is actually quite tricky and dangerous..... I broke the conductor and have to solder it....... :(

  • I've done this, and I can save now, but the time isn't progressing while I'm not playing, so my game is stuck in an endless night. It could be because I didn't replace it with a full battery, I just used a CR2032 I had lying around, would that cause that?

  • @2344553 pretty sure its not that did you scratch the motherboard at all? that could do it

  • @dudesayswhat1011 Thanks, but it turned out the battery was just low. Bought a new one and it worked fine.

  • @2344553 o XD

  • This doesn't work with pokemon sapphire because the internal battery is positioned directly above one of the chip thingys, so ill probably scratch it if you try and remove the battery

  • Hey I have pokemon sapphire on gameboy advance, and I need to replace the internal battery. Does it work the same way apart from the battery size?? And if so what size battery does it use??

  • Is there a way to seal the game with a different (aka "normal") type of screw?

  • it doesnt have to be 2025 bat i used 2032 and still works and would probaly make the battery last longer... but thanx for this video help alot =P

  • i did it :)

ty nice vid it was a good help

  • I played the living hell out of my Silver Version when I was 12. Now I have a way of getting my game working again.

  • I found a screwdriver that actually works with these GBC games, but I got it at a local specialty store :D

  • Got here a CR2016, would u think its better to buy and use a CR2025/CR2032 (some people said its better, i really dont know)? thanks

  • @speedylugia it happened to me I got it fix but my save file is gone. But I re beat the game again.

  • The pokemon red internal battery doesn't dry as fast as pokemon gold and silver games since it doesn't have a clock, right?

  • I have the same problem with pokemon sapphire, does it work the same way? it says: 'save failed. Backup memory is damaged or the internal battery has run dry. The game can be played. however, progress cannot be saved'

so do I just change the battery or is the game broke?

  • Will this happen with Pikachu Yellow Edition?

  • Comment removed

  • I broke the little metal piece off the bottom. is it broken forever? i just couldn't get the battery off w/out breaking off the piece on accident : (

  • @mattizsodope1 tape it on with electrical tape

  • Is there any way to freeze the clock or something? ecause once Ive evolved my Eevee i would rather have the battery last an extra 5 years then watch it change between day and night. Also, once the screw is off, can i replace it with a standard screw if i need to open it again in the future?

  • Comment removed

  • I sat at a table for 10 minutes and all that happened was nothing the screw WILL NOT MOVE please reply

  • all the pokemon games thrown away thanks to that when they could fix it

  • THANK YA SOOOO MUCH!! I am enjoy Crystal some much! Favorites and likes!

  • Same Thing Happen To My Pokemon Silver

  • I put a 2016 in my red and it worked for a few days and then caput

  • I actually managed to replace the battery on my brother's copy of Gold version with a CR2032 battery with a bit of electrical tape instead of solder. Works great, and bonus points from him.

  • i bought gold and silver with a gameboy color just a few days ago and obviously the internal battery was dry, thanks to this video i replaced the battery and is working like new thatnks :)

  • you lied the battery is 1616 not 2025 and it didn't restart it was the same and worked, also my dad opened it in like 10 seconds and used no tape.

    .

  • do you need a electric tape instead of regular? plz respond back

  • i put in a 2032 battery and it works too.

  • I just did this and the soldering is easier!

  • I bought a special bit on amazon to open Nintendo cartridges

  • ti sat there for 20 minutes and have carved plastic off and the screw has not turned pone micrometer.... WHAT THE HELL...

  • hey there i have a pokemon sapphire game and the battery ran dry... i dont really understand the time flow events or really how it affects my game but does the same basic thing apply here? or is it different for GBA games? also this explains why my cousins pokemon silver game does this THANKS!

  • @Vonhooverhiggen do the same as him but buy a 1616 battery

  • hey there i have a pokemon sapphire game and the battery ran dry... i dont really understand the time flow events or really how it affects my game but does the same basic thing apply here? or is it different for GBA games?

  • does this work on pokemon red, yellow.blue thanks

  • I used a needle nose pliers and twisted the medal around it and they popped off easily

  • Works like a charm, but it's easier to get the tabs off if you cut them with a stanley knife

  • I'm thinking about buying LeafGreen used, does this method also work on GBA games?

  • @TrinidadPatrick gba games dont ever get this problem

  • @coolguygrant77

Yes the do, my gold and silver have fucked up.

  • @EXoTiiCzZ yeah gold and silver aint gba they gb

  • its easier to get the battery of of the solder if you slide a thin knife under it

  • 1:11 SUPER ULTRA MEGA FLICK!

    LOL

  • and actually the tabs or leads if you will are not soldered on they are spot welded on in a split second. soldering could possibly overheat the battery and make it explode.

  • my silver works, but not my crystal or my friends blue

  • I tried this but, uh...I kind of broke the little metal tab inside. The one that hold the battery in place and probably has some other important purpose that I'm unaware of. What should I do?? ;-; My Pokemon Crystal still won't save!

  • WARNING DO NOT BUY A 2025 BATTERY IF YOU ARE PLAYING POKEMON BLUE/RED/YELLOW THESE THREE GAMES TAKE CR1616 WHICH ARE MUCH SMALLER!!!!!

  • I didn't have any good screwdrivers, just a normal flat one (kinda thick). Unscrewing was hell, but I managed to turn the screw a little bit without dealing too much damage to it. Found some good tweezers at this point, and everything went like a charm. TWEEZERS ARE THE BEST!

when I opened the game I found that my the little metal plate thingy was soldered four times. per plate...

you can imagine how hard it was to get it loose with a thick screwdriver, took forever, but I eventually DID IT!

  • the reason the batteries dont work is because people played it all the time

  • hey do you know what battery you need to replace the one in ruby?

  • @Zenithson05

    CR1616

it even says it on the printed circuit board

  • 2032 is better to use I solder one on 5 of my games took 5min

  • You can also use a 2032 battery. a 2032 battery does have a longer lifespan. To open a cartridge just use a gamebit 3,8MM.

  • I just tried to use my Pokemon silver, and the save data was completely erased.

My Pokemon Yellow save was erased (due to it not being properly inserted in my Game Boy Pocket about 8 years ago), I have since tried complete it again.

Since my pokemon silver was erased, I dug up my GameShark V3.1 and did a Snapshot Save of my Pokemon Yellow game just in case its battery dies.

Just defeated Blaine, gotta get Giovanni Next.

HA HA HA HA The Gameshark is not for cheating no more, its for saving.

  • does it work for gba too?

  • where do yu find the 2025 battery?

  • This battery is in all gb games or just on pokemon=?

  • @ccrcountry All GBC games.

  • @ka6Scope not true I have "Aliens Thanatos Encounter" for GBC that doesn't have a battery what so ever. I also have "Zelda Oracle of Ages" for GBC that has a CR1616 battery.

  • If i replace a good batterie will i lose the save data?

That is, if remove a batterie of a game will it loose all data even if a new one is placed?

  • @gatmcm sadly yes

  • @gatmcm the battery is what allows the hardware to remember the save data. remove the battery, loose the save. Essentially it's like removing your brain from your central nervous system. It wont function.

  • @gatmcm if your battery is dead period then you file is gone

  • @gatmcm i have never had to replace my battery yet but yes you will lose the data, ive heard this works to save your data and then after installing the new battery you can restore from backup with the link im pm-ing you

  • @FragBashers , could you be a lifesaver (yeah...sad isn't it?) and pm me the same link? I'm all worried all my lifelong (yeah lets pretend my life enden when I turned 14) struggle to become the number one Pokémon Master will disapear soon, my game is becoming old.

  • I can't get the darn screw out! HELP!!

  • do you have a video 4 gba games with the same problem

  • mine died like an hour ago and this happened with my crystal before but this time its differnt.... like i upload it and i cant contenue my game but it keeps makeing me reset the time and the time jumps around.... will this also fix my game?

  • This happened with my crystal ): But luckily for me I was able to buy a still working one later (: Though this might be useful for the future, so thanks for the vid :D

  • I can not get of the screw ;(

  • @hejhhopp Same here :[

  • at 13:36 it sounds like you said sauté again

  • Just to let you know soldering would be way faster and if your careful it should not harm your game

  • Shit, and if my game doesn't have the solders? I bought it and it wasn't saving, when I opened it up there was no battery, or soldering arms.

  • I can't get this screw out to save my life

  • Out of nothing but sheer academic curiousity, could you not simply use a soldering iron to undo the soldered parts, or would the heat damage the ICs?

  • @DarkMagicX2 Not sure but I heard that the heat can damage the battery or some of the electronic parts

  • good

  • i like it ! verry good

  • lol those arms got owned.

  • thanks scope for the video i needed this video

  • I have Gold.

  • My pkmn shapire doesnt save anymore XD

  • scope is a pimp :D

  • @kortneykits11 hows thet?

  • @kirbysbestfan he helped me fix my silver :D

  • omg scope has a guitar =0

you should play it for us sometime

  • this is good so it will last longer and maybe not sell it and show off saying this was easy to get but now there is only couple hundred left

  • thanks I use emulators but this is helpful because I wanted to do somthing like this to my old copy`s of pokemon blue, red and silver unforchanaly I lost my copy of yellow

  • so the batteries in emerald etc. dont die?

  • @appiexDXD In Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald the only thing the batteries keep track of are time. When your battery dies, a message will pop up when you load the game saying "You can still play, though time based events will no longer occur." So basically replacing the battery will only reinstate the flow of time in game.

In the DS games, the batteries do not run dry.

  • @ka6Scope okay so you can't do stuff like lottery! :\ better to replace it!

  • @ka6Scope like what stuff count for based events ?

  • @ka6Scope I have always wondered why the older GameBoy games relied on volatile RAM chips to save game progress, requiring a battery to keep said data active. I know they had the password system as well for games without a battery or recordable Ram, but couldn't Nintendo have found a way for consumers to transfer game save data to a Floppy disk or something in case of Battery Failure? My Gameshark dosen't have a battery in it, so why can it save a game Snapshot for 10+ years without one?

  • @ka6Scope yea that happened to my saphire game

  • Comment removed

  • tweezers also work pretty well for unscrewing the back screw in case anybody wanted to know..

  • @death2all284 This is true.

  • @ka6Scope Just need to thank you very much this tutorial - you've saved me the money I would have paid to get a DS to play during my daily train trips :)

I want to add, the tweezers were useless until I had loosened the screw, instead I used a good quality metal skewer (I also stabbed it through my thumb so watch out for that...) and as for the solder on the battery I used a small, sharp knife and patience, lots of patience. Thanks again, you're a legend!

  • @ka6Scope

i own some 3.6 volt cell-coin-shaped batteries , i know i should use 3V ones, but....will they work? or will they burn my game's circuits? please respond..........

  • You are very pale.. I like it..

  • Didn't expect this video, but I like it. It's interesting.

  • 1080p camarao nie man

  • nice scotch tape, man
