The end of the anime? Well to help you out, the last two episodes took place entirely in main characters' minds, showing how they worked through their inner conflicts and... yeah. It never provides a satisfying conclusion to the main storyline. The real kicker is that the creator thought that was OK. If you want a slightly more satisfying finale, you need to watch the 2nd Evangelion movie, "End of Evangelion", but it still won't answer all your questions.
