  • I didn't realized that she was truly a gem....

  • Judy had style that no Woman in show business has come close to.The curtain was there for a reason not to see.But the press the world pulled it back and seen how hard it was to be Judy Garland. She did a Great job in giving the world JOY so lets remember that!!! Loving you still Barb...

  • Thumbs up if you think that this might be the most heart-wrenching song on YouTube.

  • I love judy garland!!!!!

  • My God (!) this is simply the best version of "Smile" which has ever been done. This is the defining Judy - she didn't just make you feel "sympathy" for her - she made you feel what she felt (empathy!) Very few singers have ever approached this realm - Judy not only "lived" there, but she invented this heaven-space. Right here on planet earth!

  • @etienne818

    well said.

  • Breathtaking!

    Whow!

  • No one but no one sings this like Judy!

  • This is a great old song. I've listened to it by other singers then I found this. Sheeesh! Ms Garland will always really be in a class all by herself.

  • she was undoutbly one of the best entertainers of all time!........

  • Beautiful

  • You know, her life was so messed up, I wonder if she sang this to herself. It almost hurts, listening to her sing this. I never met her, I still miss her.

  • That was Beautiful.

  • holy shit.

  • To all the broken hearts...

  • What is so poignant about this song is how it defines Judy's life. Put on a brave face... and go out there and deal with it. And yet... we know what happened.

Sublime sadness can be as fulfilling, in its own way, as supreme happiness.

I think Judy did good with her life. I can only hope that she realized that.

  • a true legend. she will forever remain in our hearts. beautiful inside and out, an undeniable talent.

  • I wanted to write how much I miss Judy. There is not her near equal on this planet today. I met her twice early 60's, I was 16. Then I saw the comment from a 15 year old and somehow I was stunned but consoled. TY

  • @globalman blessed moments.... i LOVE judy since i m a young girl. even now i can understand how hard her live was.but in my younger days i just felt her emotion.. and this is what music should be...... i also miss her ..... my whole live

  • I'm 15...and I miss Judy Garland so much!

  • Shirley Bassey idolized Judy Garland when growing up, and when she became a music industry celebrity in her own right, she and Judy became friends. Click on attached 'You Made Me Love You' Video Response for Shirley's tribute to Judy. These three Judy songs were recorded by Bassey in 1979.

  • For me, the best version ever.

  • incredible..at this moment she must of known why she was put here on earth..thank you Judy for your amazing talent, I imagine you sing with the angels regularly..

  • is there a "i smiled while listening to Judy"-button?

  • The VOICE.. still.. RINGS.. out.. and it.. brings back... A SMILE.. even though that saddness that she left us.. ! BUT SHE LIVES ON.. in what she left behind for us.

  • Judy is still the best and still timeless. No performer has ever equaled her.

  • wonderful.

  • Sunday night at the palladium, and Ed Sullivan aired it

  • I know this was in London. Does anyone know the venue?

  • 6 people don't smile

  • BREATHTAKING....

  • @jacksonbrownepuppy Yes, still, everytime without fail! Judy is my Queen!

  • @JosienTess2 yes, I feel the same way... she will always be #1 to me...

  • judy, i hope youre finally happy somewhere. god bless you, darling. <3

  • Indeed a classic.

  • timeless.

  • Judy Garland was a very sad person herself in real life. I didn't know that until I saw some commentaries about her.

  • It seems to me that judy Garland sings the most uplifting songs ever. This, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and Have yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Her songs could cure the world of depression if played enough.

  • Beautiful...

  • (N)agyszerű! :)

  • Simply stunning...

  • Holy smoke. That's a performance!

  • why is that even the the song says smile it makes me feel sad?

  • God, she just kills me with this song

  • @MarytheNight126 have you heard Michael Jackson's version? Its also incredible

  • <3

  • awesome !!!......the words were written by Charlie Chaplin....Judy...the one and only!

  • @ticklertim1 No the lyrics where written by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons in 1954. The original was an instrumental piece that Chaplin wrote for his film Modern times in 1936.

  • I have heard (read?) that this was Judy's fav song... meebee I/m wrong!

  • one of the best versions of this song i've ever heard, so beautiful :')

  • Whatever thing disliked this must have no soul. This is beautiful.

  • Wow, this beyooooond amazing

  • JUDY, ma préférence ... Je t'ai dans mon coeur et dans mes pensées .. à chaque fois que j'écoute ta voix ... tu me fais tellement vibrer - tu étais la vie même ... quel talent ... quelle émotion .... MERCI

  • Wow! This made me cry...

  • What an incredibly unique, special and personal vocal ability. Judy was an entertainer like no other with a voice with so many different qualities that just grabbed our hearts and brought us to tears or amazement. She really hit home with this song. Judy has matched Michael Jackson's version of this song and anyone else for that matter. You can hear about her tragic life through this song and her rare "Somewhere over the Rainbow" that she sang on only two TV specials dressed as a sad clown.

  • Such a beautiful rendition and sucha tragic tale.

  • Most comments talk about how deeply Judy dug into her emotions and how much of herself she gave. I'm not sure that I believe that... I don't think that she had to go within herself to convey the magic that we all feel from her. She simply had a gift that no other performer had or will have to penetrate the souls of all who experience her. I believe it is US more than herself that Judy is digging so deeply into... That is why in any of her performances she has us in the palm of her hand.

  • Judy never held back she put every ounce of her soul into each song ,may she should have kept some back for herself,

  • Who could draw on more of themselves to produce such an emotive performance of this piece? Connecting deep within to pull the very best out without crossing a very finite line into tears.

Only a true talent with extraordinary persona could achieve this and offer up to us such a special gift for us to treasure.

  • @runningwithoutmymeds

That's what makes Judy Garland stand out from the vast amounts of singers out there and especially with today's singers. They need to look at Judy Garland's career (both in the studio & live performances) and see how the master did it. Judy Garland truly was a singer and she put more than 100% of herself into the songs that she sung. She didn't need to do any choreographed dance routines or dress provocatively--all she needed was a microphone and the magic begins.

  • hey thanks for that. i have never heard judy sing that song before. and to see it with video also brought me to tears. she is amazing. even if she is on pills or something chemical. still the honesty of her is amazing

  • Happy birthday judy

  • 6 people are related to the wicked witch of the west.

  • They should not have a like button, they should have a love button for this song. One of my fav songs ever. Also my fav version

  • The story of Judy Garland's life is a devastating one. Hooked on drugs from a young age and dieing because of all of that. I feel like this song is a good sum up of her life. makes me so sad.

  • Awesome ...just awesome! I heard another version on an oldies radio show.

Judy Garland's is the best by far. What a classy lady! Thanks for this sharing this great live performance.

  • I hit the "like" button, but I feel bad because it should say "love".

  • @supinedream you've hit that right ; ))))

  • The amount of emotion in hër sounds is amazing. Happiness and Sadness combined to one briliant piece. It talks about life and death. About endless effort and about our obligation to carry our problems and struggles alone... And still we should smile! And still we should enjoy life! Perfection...

  • i could listen to her forever

  • I was sobbing.. only because this song is my life in a nutshell

  • @Redskittles101 ssshhh emo kid - listen to Judy and her voice

  • 5 people are clearly too miserable to smile.

  • miss garland was a very poor lady!

  • 5 people obviously don't appreciate an awesome performer

  • @greenlanternintx They should go listen to justin beiber

  • There'll never be another Judy.

  • This is the only version of the song that has me in tears. She is remarkable!

  • The song's title is "Smile", ironically though, it's the one song that can bring me to tears whenever I listen to it. It's such an overwhelming feeling.

By the way, those 5 people who 'Disliked' this performance of the song clearly know nothing of music.

  • Oh, Judy, this makes me miss you so much. This has put me in tears. Thank you ever so much for sharing this. We adore you, Judy! *sigh*

  • ah....Judy......I hope you have the most wonderful nest in heaven....thankyou for all the beautiful moments you have provided we earthlings.....I hope you finally realize what you meant to us...

to my mom and day......your times were the best times....miss you always...L.

  • @leelaural and she left such beautiful moments for us to relish in until we meet her there!

  • This is a bittersweet song that so perfectly fits Judy's life story that you know Judy is singing it straight from the heart. Even though Judy seemed to struggle for happiness in her personal life, she loved performing and her audience loved her for performing. No one could sing a song with more emotion than Judy.

  • Ach Juds. wenn du nich wärst! Danke

  • i hope i can give my son somthing with this song.its so amazing

  • Such a beautiful song, Charlie Chaplin was a talented man.

  • Wow!

  • Michael Jacksons fav song. I love this song. One of my fav songs also

  • 5 people smiled

  • This song makes me in the opposite mood... Sad.

    I love her!!!

  • It hurts to watch this because the emotions are real--nobody current can get even near this level of honest artistry. The current crop doesn't have a clue....

  • this is beautiful

  • laden with emotions! *

    simply BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • she bad. 2:33 is too on point just like whitney houston.

  • I want to cry for her....she always looked so sad in her waning years.

  • Beautiful.

  • Celine could never come close to the emotion that Judy puts into a song..no way near in the same category.

  • @Jimbo8137 she was in pain you can feel it, but she still smiled....maybe it was the barbiturates...dunno.

  • 4 poeple dont have souls

  • GigantaHeart nice to hear and right on key I am 53 and the junk is hard to listen to and call it music.Where is Alica Keys Jennifer Hudson they are the Ladies of there time!!! NO one beats Judy tho!! PEACE Barb ...

  • Celine didn't come close last night.

  • How sad that a lady with this voice could die the way she did, all alone?.

  • Four assholes voted......Oh how I love transparency.

  • Nobody can sing it like Judy.

  • just beautiful.... thank you for posting

  • I wanted to cry as I listened :' )

  • a melhor interpretação desta música, sem dúvida, so poderia ser dela: Judy g

    Garland

  • train wreck...

  • Judy found the soul of every song she sang...and poured that soul out for us all to share with her. Her voice, her face, her expression created every song new for us to love all over again.

  • She brought it from the depths. She was a great singer.

  • Everytime I watch this I cry.. Her voice is so moving!! Most wonderful singer & actress ever...I love her.

  • @whatigot2say really nice compassion there. really nice.

  • @cait72590 I was just asking. found out later that she wasn't mean to her children like Joan Crawford she was too high to be mean.

  • Uhhh..... WOW!

  • @whatigot2say all the more pathos and emotion

  • tem hora que da até gosto de escutar musica ,quando é uma musica linda desta e bem cantada tem que dar graça a Deus por não ser surdo.

  • NOW that is selling it with your heart and soul

  • I just want to say that I have been looking for a song to sort of represent me when I am gone, which I hope will be shortly , and the best I have known is of this Lady who I think is the greatest Diva of all, not like all the mentioned Divas, but the one who realy gets to your hearts. I think she should have been awarded the Diva of mankind if it existed. Let She rest in Peace.

  • Artist of the old days... I love this song both by her and Nat King Cole. Still I think there r 1 difference between nowadays and the old days: The GREAT artist of the good old day don't need to be good looking whatsoever to be GREAT, like Nat KIng Cole or Louis Armstrong, they aren't handsome but GREAT compare to many singers today...

  • @GigantaHeart stop undermining modern music

  • @moroney1 I said many not all... Modern music with its growth in all branches is inevitable, the artists tend to attract people by any mean necessary... Like at my place, it's quite hard to find someone eager to learn one thing a two about the artists of the old age while many are influenced by the current of K-Pop, where their look is more appreciated than their voice (sorry K-Pop fan). This makes me quite sad because the most important thing to an artist beside their voice is their SOUL.

  • @GigantaHeart You're completely right. Music has gone down hill. I mean I still like modern music, but I turn the other way when it comes to Lady GooGoo who by the way is hardly a lady. And she cannot sing to save herself. I'm 28 and absolutely feel Judy Garland even now as she sings as though she's singing to me. That's how she wanted it to be too. She wants you to feel your own feelings. And boy does it work. Wonderful voice and wonderful singer.

  • stunning....thats the only word

  • I always said if someone came down from another planet and asked "who is Judy Garland" all you would have to do is show them this clip.

  • Brought me to tears.

  • @CarlyIsAGangster the best version of this beautiful song

  • Everytime she sang, she died a little!

  • Judy sang in her own magical way.She knew how to approach a song and put her every emotion into it. You cannot compare her with anyone. Lady Gaga is a totally different singer who will not have long lasting appeal that Judy Garland does. Judy was a living legend and all she needed was a mic and a Orchestra. She doesn't need get ups or all those distractions that todays singers use because if the singers today got rid of all their gimmicks they would be booed off stage.

  • @NFitalianGuy

You are right, I agree with everything that you said. Judy Garland has TRUE talent, unlike these "so-called" singers that are out here today. And also Judy Garland's music will always have more longeity because her music is timeless. There will never be another Judy Garland . . . .she may be often imitated but never duplicated. I also hate the fact that so many singers today rely things like choreographed dances and I wish it was more about the music.

  • @MusicLoverBrian1 ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, stop bloody undermining todays music, its sickening

  • @NFitalianGuy amen!

  • @RUSTYBOY1122 Shut the fuck up, you have no clue what you are talking about, Judy is the greatest female performer in living memory

  • @RUSTYBOY1122 WTF? those two women are totally different. you cant compare the two. different time periods, style, and voices. all of these come into factor while choosing who's better. their simply can be no "better" singer. im not saying that gaga isn't talented, but i really hate it when people make non- thought out choices. They are BOTH great in their OWN ways. thank you.

  • @RUSTYBOY1122 lady gaga is nothing without her costumes and other myriad of gimmicks. same with katy perry, madonna, and countless others. imo, all the really great singers need is their voice and a piano or orchestra behind them.

  • gives me goosebumps and a lump in the throst EVERY time! Esp. when she sing about hiding every trace of sdness and her face gets that knowing and very sad smirk. awww poor Judy. Still No one did it better

  • just class, love it baby Judy xxx

  • Through all of her inner turmoil Judy was the ultimate lady. A legend to everyone but to a fifteen year old she was a friend who cared about what I thought. I spent an hour with her in 1953 in Birmingham,England backstage after one of her shows. All the time she kept asking me questions about what I wanted to do in life. None of it was about her. Bless you Judy.

  • No he's not, and in any event, you didn't even spell his name correctly. It's "Nat" not "Nate."

  • Nate King Cole is much better

  • why do I always have a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat when I hear this song sung by one of the very best......thanx Judy!!

  • Once, every eternity, there's a Judy Garland.

  • @ericlovesjudy and we were lucky enough to exist in a time when this magic was created! How sad a place the world would be without Judy Garland singing to us!

  • @supinedream Such a beautiful thing to say and so true!

  • @supinedream

    Thank you.

  • amazing!

  • There are certain artists who were never before and never again. There is only one and the best efforts, few as they may be because these people can never be re-created, always fail. Judy Garland is one of them. More remarkable is she sings like someone from heaven, dances expertly with no choreography, acts in drama, comedy, musical, and TV, and she looks as if it comes very easy and that she worked and waited her whole life for any one performance.

  • judy was one of the greats singing with great feeling she could sing any of the great stars of her time off the stage its very sad she is gone and that would not say it all for judy

  • judy was one of the greats singing with great feeling she could sing any of the great stars of her time off the stage its very sad she is gone and that dosent cover it

  • the ultimate tear jerker!

  • Judy Garland 4ever. :-D

  • Sing it? She LIVED it! Peace to you Judy where ever you are...always.

  • The greatest talent that this world has every been blessed with. Period.

  • And she didn't like herself???

    Love you.

  • she is timelessly beautiful and amazingly amazing <3<3

  • the four people who gave this a thumbs down must be musicaly impaired

  • This is my all time favorite Judy Garland performance.....

  • As Deep as it gets.

  • With a voice husky with hard living her vocals seems only to take on perfection. You do not listen to Judy you are there! Living what she is singing!
