  • "i made a mess. Who doesn't?"

  • Well, I think this song surely gave me "something to cry about".

  • Beautiful song - heard it on the radio and had it stuck in my head all day! I love that BNL is back!

  • This song is beautiful... excellent sound and really hits my heart! Great job Ed, you're a lead singer!

  • Only song that I like from this band. Good, Meaningful song. Very moving for me.

  • Such a sweet song <3

  • This song made me fall in love with BNL all over again.

  • Sometimes we run because we're scared

Most times it is with regret

    When the courage comes

    I'll run to You!

Then I'll turn and Stay! XO

  • amazing

  • $1,000,000

  • something is missing.... Ed has a good voice... Steven has the better voice... Ed sounded better with Steven but Steven still sounds incredible on his own.. it's like peanut butter with no jam...

  • @MrRdavidson2010 I respectfully disagree, I've always liked Ed's voice better than Steven's voice.

  • a copie of steven...

  • @ericoombs no? lol Ed is singing...he's been singing since the start of BNL. also, *copy.

  • Oh WOW, I LOVE this song! I am attracted to sad sounding tunes, or just music that makes you THINK!

  • OMG!!! its really touching..the message inside of this music is making me back my passed life...im teary..

  • I like it... I like it a lot.... \*>*/

  • I like it... I like it a lot.... \*>*/

  • omg i finally found this great song it has been playing on radio for a LONG while but they never said the name which i find stupid lmao

  • @magmon2468 so how did you find this then Sherlock? 'songs i like on the radio' buy a record for fuck sake

  • If I had a million dollars... I would buy the old times back

  • @TheBlackStar999 i'll give you a buck for yours mate

  • powerful words, music, and message.

    Great harmonies!

  • the band is not the same with out sp man good tune tho i hope in time they can get back together so i can put my hard money into seeing a solid canadian band live solid cus page will never play if i had a mil dollars without e rob, but hopefully they can bring it back together

  • sounds like a sasunaru theme :)

  • all their songs are wounderfull but i sure do miss the sound they had on "Gordon" Grade 9 is still my favorite

  • <3 this song soooooo much!!!

  • Wtf? Does this have to do with the olympics ? lol

  • @Avery1599

I think this is a slam at Steven page, is it not? For leaving the bad...

  • @godonlyknows13 yes, i believe it is.

  • great song thanx for posting.

  • it always makes me feel relaxed when i listen to it

  • I like this song just as much as their others. It doesn't matter that they have a different singer now.

  • @canadianbirch Um, yeah, Ed has been sharing lead vocal duties with Steven from the beginning, he's always been a singer in the band, it's not a different singer.

  • AmAzInG<3

  • I love love love this song. I love BNL anyhow...they always put greatness in their music

  • I love love love this song. I love BNL anyhow...they always put greatness in their music

  • absolutely love this song

  • beautiful, it's nice !!!!

  • I was REALLY surprised when I heard this song on the radio, googled the lyrics, and saw that it was from the Barenaked Ladies.. I'm a long time fan, and this is so different for them, and really beautiful..

  • my 3 year old sings this song...i am sad they sold out after Steven left...the bachelor?

  • @chochlander Selling out? Not even close, they are trying to find a new sound. Steven was the main singer. Obviously they won't have the same type of songs, the vocals are very different now, that have to start almost new and find what sound works best for them NOW not before. This was an amazing album, this and every subway car. Absolutely amazing, the band is still continuing to do great.

  • @conjaro WTF!!!!

  • @conjaro WTF!!!! Why not just say you like it, u don't have 2 talk for 40 mins!

  • @bofersmaxi I was retorking to a point in which was stated the band "Sold out." Saying how they haven't. Maybe if you knew how to read you would understand that.

    You* two* type*

I apologize we can't all be as simple minded as you are. That being said, I LOVE Bare Naked Ladies... Both kind(s)

  • @conjaro What the frig?!?! I did NOT write any of this CRAP!! ?!?!?! God...i got HACKED! I gotta change my password. thanks anyway..

  • i can't run away from this song:P

  • Nice song

  • anyone else know all the words to the gordon album? mhmm :)

  • @iamchase4life i do!! as does my son...well, most of them for him...

  • Over the summer my girlfriend cheated and broke up with me. This event caused my entire group of friends to become divided. Sides were taken and words were thrown as we all acted like jackasses. Today, everything is civil but my best friend who somehow got involved will not talk to me anymore. It's been upsetting me lately but this song has helped me move on. If he's going to go "run away" after everything it means that it was meant to be. "It's not something to cry about!" :)

  • my son, three years old, knows this song by heart....it makes me tear when he sings it..

  • beautiful

  • freeaking love this song ..

  • Are you the band "community" referred to last night? :D

  • @sam4sb Yes, this is the band they mentioned! :)

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever, I must say.

  • I'm also pleasantly surprised that a song of this caliber has come from a band hit so hard in the nuts by one of their lead vocalists jumping ship.

  • This whole album was a lot more solemn and melancholy than BNL usually does. Guess Page leaving really hit them.

  • haha hes my uncle :)

  • @imthejuggynaut

    lolwut

  • this exactly explains the big arguement me and my brother got into it was heartbreaking

  • All i have to say....is eveyrone makes those mistakes...most of us are not in the limelight..thank the gods...I love his music and voice and whatever mistakes he made are nothing compared to the rock gods we all love to this day! really??? we are going to judge this?? After all the good and all they have done? seriously think Keith richards, think about all the rock gods, this is paltry, and insignifigant

  • @sheeraa89 i really dont know what you are trying to say...whether this song sucks, and we should just listen to older stuff, or what exactly. Not everyone would likely agree on these 'rock gods' you speak of, but i am interested to know what you think is so much better than this, both bandwise and songwise, to consider this song 'paltry and insignificant'. Its a good song, especially froma band that does not compose songs like this normally.

  • this is really sad i cant belive this

but this is the best song proveing they still got it and its raw i love it

  • The first time I ever heard this I shed a single tear.

  • If you listen to the lyrics obviously the break btween Stephen and Ed is more involved than we think. Its sad he had to leave but the band is not dead. The spirit of this band will live on. They are one of the best bands I have ever had the blessing of listening to. I love you BNL.

  • I think the band had to write this song to evolve as a the band they are.

  • This song is so moving!! Every time that I hear it, I have to stop and listen to each note.

    Lyrics, rhythm, etc. are awesome!!

  • im singing this in my a cappella group.. weve been working on it for a month... just finally started to love last night. i found something in my life that connected to this song and now everytime i hear it it makes me angry and sad and happy too.. such an emotional song, but it takes a bit to realize what its about first.

  • such a mean song all about Steven page so underhanded

  • such a mean song all about Steven page so underhanded

  • badddd song... not a fan didnt get past the intro (n)

  • badddd song... not a fan

  • Hate the Bare Naked Ladies.... Love this song :)

  • I agree with some previous comments. This some makes me teary eyed, I LOVED the Ed/Steven dynamic. It's a beautiful song, Ed has really emerged as a great lead vocalist. Kudos to Kevin on filling out the vocals, sounds great, but he's no Steve Page, nor should he be. I'm soo torn.....*sigh*

  • everytime i hear this song, i think of ali & roberto from the bachelorette & how much they love each other, they are so sweet & i wish them all the best at the wedding!!

  • No gimmicks, cracks, "postcard" references, typical BNL wit here. This is Adult Contemporary. Didn't even know it was BNL when i heard it on Sirius (until I looked at the screen).

  • LOVE this song!

  • I thought he was saying "I made a mess; cool dozen" as in a cool dozen mill. vs. "I made a mess who doesn't"

  • i love this song so muhc it's so sad & sweet

  • while I do REALLY like this song , I have to say the remainder of songs on the album i have heard in MY opinion are not that good

I think they have lost a step without Paige in the band

While I also like his solo work i dont think he will reach the level as the BNL did with him in the band i think the spilt has hurt both sides but again THAT is just meAs of now I prefer the paige solo stuff over the new BNL album

Been listening since the YELLOW sandwich Cassette days.....doesnt mean anything 8 )

  • This is an AWESOME song. Very poignant. On top of this, there are several good songs on the new album as well. Give it another listen. Steve was a huge part of the band, but they are just as worthy without him as the others have stepped in to fill his shoes.

  • +rep

  • what a great song!

    i love it

too bad the rest of this album sux!

these guys were friends, but don't ever have a problem with drugs, cos your partner band member may vote to kick you out of the band instead of helping you get thru it

thats why steve page is out of the band, and that's a fact

  • @inmylife10465 Steven is that you?

  • @inmylife10465 They didn't kick him out, he left on his own.

  • lol

it's like lennon leaving the beatles

and now paul has his wings.(corky to say,but you get it....)

  • @ThePwnerOfEpicNoob that's a fair point but i think this song is proof they dont wanna be the old bnl their expanding to try new things and i think thats good.

  • it's beautiful...

  • is this song about the former singer that left the band. tried to be your brother, you ran away. etc.

  • wwhat the hek is the name of that song thats like 'I promise youuuu, I'd do my best to crucify youuu'

  • @goanyways That'd be "Call and Answer"

P.S. It's "I'd be the first to crucify you"

  • @mrknowie LOL yea your right and thanks :)

  • i just got the sudden urge to listen to this song... i dont even like this kind of music, but i NEEDED to listen to this song just now

  • not THAT good but still about 1000 times better than bieber

  • soooper

  • everyone's right, this is such an incredible song, but i still miss SP. his voice was so unique.

  • @CameramaDingDang

Yes this is true. But regardless they're still amazing:)

  • @Edchick28 oh totally! He was just a small piece of the puzzle. But my favourite piece.

  • @CameramaDingDang Whos sp??

  • @MrsCanadianGirl co founder Stephen Page, he left in 2009, and this song is kinda about it.

  • @MrsCanadianGirl

    Steven Page

  • I hate to say it, but I think we're hearing the real BNL now. Steve Page was obviously not needed, and the band has become much better.

  • their first song i ever heard is One Little Slip. I Swear it's one of the best song ever! full of advice! this song not too bad too ^.^

  • ed robertson really has some pipes!

  • BEST SONG EVER

  • It really doesn't get any better than this. BNL 4 LIFE

  • I did not expect to enjoy this song so much. I hesitated in listening to post-page-BNL, and now I regret it.

  • this song is so awesome, makes me cry.. people dont give BNL the credit they should get

  • i remember going to a concert in london in 1993. i loved you guys then, i love you now. your more poetic songs have always been my favourites. thank you for persevering and making incredible music for so many years for so many fans. xxx

  • Oh My God... If this is Ed talking about his wife/partner leaving him...I would want to date this man any-time! He is so cute and SEXY !

Do females or males out there feel the same ?

  • @sunndays201 I totally agree, but I always took it as him talking to Page. I don't know how it makes sense in my mind, but it does.

  • @jkap34 In an interview he said "this song could have been written about anyone who I was in a band with for 20 years and then just walked away"

  • steven should still be in the band this is bullshit and this about him by the way incase u didnt already no that

  • Oh my God best song yet!!! I love it

    patricialoveswjbr111

  • great song by an awesome band

  • I can't believe this is from BNL, they used to be all comical.

This song has proved how they can be close to perfect all through

  • @cyanide60

I'd have to disagree. Yes they're known for their more comedic songs but that's not ALL they've done, they've done a lot of serious songs over the years too. Though this is probably they're most serious CD out of all they've done :V

  • It's musically very sound, but this song doesn't do much to alleviate the worries I have for the band lyrically. I have been a very big fan of BnL since I was little-ish, and the really clever lyrics are mostly what does it for me. The only parts of this song that impressed me lyrically was "I tried but you tried harder. I lied but you lied smarter." Aside from that line the song seemed mainstream and bland.

It could be my imagination, since Page left, and I hope it is. Still this is a buy.

  • good song!

  • such a powerful song

  • As some people say.. they first heard this song on bachelorette, so did I. I luvv this songg.. :) it gave me goose bumps when I first heard it. <3 luvv the feeling.

  • @ginnidee Totally agree! :)

  • I love this song !! It does sound different than their older stuff but still GREAT all the same!! BNL Rule !!! :-)

  • I would like to see the Video that was recorded at the "Bachelorette" TV show.

  • This band is just not the same w/o with Steven Page.

I think their popularity is a sign of that...

  • Brilliant song.

  • Does this fit someone I know.

  • luv this song

  • Distinctly different sound for BNL...honestly never been a fan but just heard this song on TV. Didn't know Steven Page(actually don't know which one he is)was leaving so is there a new member? I am really diggin this sound...song.

  • Good song

  • My husband was saying how much he didn't like BNL. Then he heard this song and he's like "THIS SONG IS REALLY A NICE SONG!" (sorry for the caps). I told him, Its BNL lol.

P.S. I met IRL Ed Robertson, when he was recording some music in the basement of my parents house. He's a really nice guy in real life (IRL)

    :)

  • Chilling yes... time to bring back Steve, he needs the band, the band needs him, the fans want the band back...

  • Your energy is definitely evident in your new songs, now that you have regrouped and moved on. Love your song, keep creating wonderful music

  • Your energy is definitely evident in your new songs, now that you have regrouped and moved on. Love your song, keep creating wonderful music

  • From someone that has been listening to BNL since Gordon, I never thought they could be better without Page. This single is proof that I was wrong. Clearly the best song they've put out in a decade at least!!

  • @zd3007 yeah i agree.. i still have the gordon tape..lol... steve was like the sound of BNL, but this song is awesome... i'm pleasantly surprised..

  • @puppyslut22

    gordan??

    what is that

  • @wanttobefunnyman please tell me your joking?

  • @puppyslut22

    nope

  • @wanttobefunnyman dude are you even a fan? its their first studio album...it was called "gordan"

  • @zd3007 : I agree. Probably their best in general.

  • @zd3007 It's also even made better knowing its such a personal song.
