He showed you what a gel looks like at the end of the video. This guy attached it to the light. But i've seen gaffers use it on big picture windows to soften the outside light on an interior shot.
I had to wikki gobo and cucoloris - gobo is a metal light stencil, and cucoloris is a patterned sheet that casts patterned shadows. the glass breahing effect when you tossed the gloves was a nice touch :)
hey what iipe of lighting should i youse in my films are all of them just like super expensive or are there some that i can get cheeo that will have the same affect on my videos or is it my camera that is genorating the problem?
AndrewXAnarchy, I know I'm not IndyMogul, but I think the best camera you can get for around $700 is a used HV20. Brand new, they run around $1000, but you could get a used one for around your price range. Otherwise, just shoot for a camera with a mic input, headphone input, and decent/good camera quality. Hope that helped.
re shooting outside with an overexposed sky/underexposed subject: you can use a graduated grey filter. It goes in front of the camera lens. It's clear at the bottom and gradually gets darker toward the top. It's used to darken the sky while leaving the ground unchanged. That way, you can get correct exposure for both the sky and your subject. They come in different shades. You use different shades depending on the time of day.
Your forgot the safety tip about using the right gauge extention cord for your lights, based on the distance from your power source to the light and back. They're not cheap as some are pretty big, but starting an eletrical fire is well far more dangerous and costly.
Wonder if you guys are going to cover all the neat tools that make balancing color and brightness soon?
Thanks man. I thought so.. but they seem really.. framable. Do you know the safest/highest wattage that might be used in a china ball? I don't want to learn from mistakes.. seeing as, I'm not fireproof..
Well they are made out of paper, but that's okay. The trick to them is use flourecent bulbs. They don't create as much heat as regular bulbs. So there is less chance of them catching fire. Get the bulb in the center of the lantern as much as possible. You should be safe then.
Excellent as usual- just one minor improvement for next time..Too many clothes, especially on Angie- ( dont shoot the messenger- just passing on what the crowd really think!)
p.s your t-shirt sucks yet again

The chinese lanterns are used for diffusing the light.
