  • What a performance....genius!

  • No way! This guy isnt real!

  • A grand interpretation!

  • any teenager here. i

    am 13

  • The face of the guy in a pink shirt waiting for Ian to finish the solo is priceless on 4:06

  • Ian Anderson brings the house down! Seamless segueways between guitar and vocals and flute. There aren't enough flute soloists anymore today.

  • U can express yourself here as long as U express yourself withing the realms and bounds of my own expression because I'm on such an ego-trip, I think I am the standard of expression. Therefore, no profanity. Censorship is ok, just so long as its approved by the owner of this illustrious presentation.Thank U and enjoy ur freedoms/rights and liberties as long as I approve of them. And pay no attention to Ian Anderson scratching at or otherwise groping his own testiculars during this performance.

  • ジェスロタルが俺の神

  • I love the Aqualung album more now in my fifties than when I was a kid. The music will live on a very long time. I do prefer it recorded, than live though,as it is what the genius Ian wanted the songs to actually sound like.I would love to see him in a true concert hall setting bringing the songs to their highest potential.

  • My all time fave Tull song. A pleasure to see the best Tull line up live at their peak. Anderson, Barre, Cornick and Bunker. "Aqualung" thier masterpice, with "Brick" closely coming in second. Thanks for the post.

  • Je les ai vus en concert 2 fois, en 1991 et en 2004. J'ai adoré ! ça manque !

  • Disliking this is like disliking the sunrise.

  • Will Regret to my Dying Day' Not Attending the Tull Concerts.

  • @424werter you should revise that to say 70's Tull concerts. I sat 3rd row at the Broadsword and the Beast tour and Ian sounded like one of the chipmonks. Very disappointing.

  • @lowlypeasant in Calgary Canada, Everyone Claimed' Tull was their Best Concert Experience Ever....we all have off days & Great Days Too. Cowtown was Fortunate to have Ian & the Group on their Good Days Twice I Guess. It was in the early 70's though.

  • @424werter he lost his wonderful voice in the early 80's. Tull is still my favorite band of all time.

  • Since his throat surgery, he can no longer reach high notes...but still rocks!

  • Tull is great. He used to grab his crotch at 20 something. I feel it liberating that I can grab mine at 55 and feel artistic. I know I'm asking for trouble, haha.

  • @MrDavidhubble Me Too & I'm 60.

  • yessss man!!!

  • My god, where has my youth gone ??

    cheers

  • @nedladdy

אלוקים איזה חומר אין דברים כאלה היום זה פעם ביובלות ההצגה הכי טובה בעיר.

  • @ma1590 I cannot brring myself to agree with that, sorry.

I tried everything, upside down, sideways, from behind the computer, everything. No what matter what angle you look it it, I just cannot agree.

    cheers

  • This album was the first album I ever owned, was given to me as a Christmas present. Will always be one of my favorite albums. This song along with the rest on this album are great. Ian Anderson is a great musician and entertainer. Jethro Tull, in my opinion, never really got the status they deserved.

  • thanks for this. incredible

  • Only Ian Anderson......

  • I never really mention the amount of dislikes on any page, however I get the feeling these were corrupt clergy trying to impress each other. Ian is a genius

  • Being able to see performers like Jethro Tull all through years from back when they were at their prime and I was young child is fantastic

  • Although almost sarcastic in his youth here, I believe him to be a very spiritual man. His energy can not! Be denied. Strange as it may seem to some. Happy birthday Jesus!

  • Tull is a great band!

  • @tedwyer

     זה הכל ?

  • who knew , way back when, there would be a rock song with a 3 minute flute solo...thank you MrAnderson!

  • Super awesome...Tull in all their glory. Ian's pretty amazing. And very wacky. Great stuff! Thanks for posting it!

  • Sensational.

I've always been a huge fan.

The flute solo is spot on.

    Amazing.

  • A great song from a great band.

  • How many times must you hear this before you HEAR it?

Open your eyes. You are it.

  • FRACKING WOW .. I'm a lifelong Tull fan - I listen to Thick As A Brick and A Passion Play back to back every time I take a long road trip - and I had the joy of seeing them live in Dallas in the late 90's .. but this is the first time I've watched live video of them in their heyday, performing one of my favorite songs of theirs .. totally inspired by this..

  • FLUTE SOLO = SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!

  • I love Tull's Broadsword, think it's brilliant, this is the first time I heard this one, sorry but it'll be the last!!

  • Eric Atkins here...live from the Austin area...will have some shakuhachi posts soon...please stay tuned ;)

  • From my Facebook posting:

ABSOLUTE MasterPiece: The coolest thing I have put on my page to date....i love how he uses his flute and voice at the same time...think this guy was on acid?...it was the dawning of a new age afterall...not sure where all of those wacky thoughts came from...damn hippies....GOD BLESS JETHRO TULL!!! and god bless ian anderson....master of the SilverFlute and SongWriter extraordinaire!

  • @shakuhachme Ian claims to have not used any drugs, and states they were considered by groupies to be dull because of it.

  • oh jethro tull just made a new fan .... me

  • Some good Shit!

  • Once again Ian Anderson proved his literary musical genius in this brilliant epic song.. 2 thumbs up!

  • SAW THEM IN SHEA STADIUM IN THE EARLY 70'S. A GENIUS IN HIS OWN RANKING. IAN WAS VERY GIFTED.....

  • The drummer and that hat look like Mick Fleetwood.

  • First time I saw Tull was the Passion Play tour where Ian decided to do the whole entire album on stage in sequence...I hated that album..They had a intermission and then the band did a short best of Tull set...

  • One word AMEN

  • these vids of live Tull are simply amazing stuff absolutley love it all

  • Freedom of self expression & musical experience never reigned again as in those days...

cheers! & many thanks for the post! ~*~ we were here ☮

  • Ok name me a band today that's even close.... Thank God I grew up in the 70"s

  • I tried to eliminate the 63 dislikes clicking 63 times on like button...

  • @HellMaidenJames It worked!

  • where did that guitar go xD

  • 4:00 boşaldı ibne

  • MY GOD!!! that solo is insanely intense...and filled with an LSD-influenced perspective (look at those pupils)!!!!!

  • @seekaydoubleu You are a jerk. Ian Anderson did not do drugs nor did he care to be around drugs..

Some people manifest their genius in ways that is hard for people of a lesser caliber to deal with.

  • @twobanger21 lol and youre completely naive

  • @seekaydoubleu Anderson is a very intense performer, therefore those eyes. Take some time and read up on him, he distanced himself from drugs, as did Frank Zappa.

  • @seekaydoubleu Sorry man, this vid is low rez even at 480 there's not enough detail to study his pupils (in the maybe 2 seconds you can actually see his eyes when the camera is on his face and they're not closed or mostly closed). The man has dark brown eyes. You certainly can't tell ANYTHING about his pupils in this vid. He has stated he didn't do drugs, and he doesn't have any reason to lie about it. He has explained himself, and is quite believable about it.

  • @Criterion515 Exactly. I have been on stage with him (crowd participation) and shook his hand afterwards. He is an eccentric - probably The Eccentric -minstrel of the finest and most creative, non-comfortable quality... completely provoking!! Its shear musical genius artistry and unbound. unchartered energy - and that will scare a lot of people = people in fear say stupid things.

  • I have yet to find ANYONE form ANY era that is as original as Tull. They could have been churning out meaningless pop like so many at this time, but no.

  • I love this band, a lot of us were encourage not to listen to this when I was a 15-16. Of course I listened, laughed, loved. it.. THE first thing a kid will do btw...

I have played 40 years and never covered Ian Anderson, Matt Barr?

People in the true arts LOVE or HATE him. No matter..He skated away on the thin ice of a new day.

  • like this...it's probably not in the pope's iPod!

  • what design does Glenn Cornick (bassist) have on his pants? I dig their hippie style

  • Whoever disliked this video obviously didn't watch it all or just doesn't appreciate real musicians, what i wonder is how the hell did they get lead to this then dislike it....get a life please, Jethro Tull are too good for you.....My god!

  • 60's, 70's and 80's where great, so much going on. Radio Caroline, John Peel, & The Old Grey Whistle Test. Then, we had the "The Tube" and "No Limits" and not forgetting Top of the Pops. Now we have MTV, which I think is shite.

  • Man, I was born in the wrong era of music, I wish i could have experienced the 70s.

  • Brilliant!

  • My favorite song of all time... except maybe Wind Up... off my favorite album of all time...

  • I tried telling a lad (Guitar Hero generation) that a hard rock song can be centred on a flute solo, he won't believe me. Is it just Andersons genuis that makes it work?

  • I tried telling a lad (Guitar Hero generation) that a hard rock song can be centred on a flute solo, he won't believe me. Is it just Andersons genuis?

  • 65 priests doesnt like Jethro!!

  • this one goes to the pope!!

  • Still my favorite band of all time.

  • If IAN has died. when he made this music. He would be prayed more Than Jim Morrison. The worl is a plays for Lie. Oh my GOD

  • Genius. Nothing compares nowadays. Feeling, philosophy, opinion, professionalism.

Ians point of view far surpasses goD's.

All boils down to a plastic crucifix.

  • Most of the Aqualung album was a social commentary on Christendom. Ian Anderson, upon completing the lyrics, approached the band with the work, and told them it would be very controversial, and did they want to continue on with production. The answer is obvious! On of the bands best efforts, along with "Benefit", and "Thick As A Brick". My favorite band of all time!

  • Life would be so much easier with this thought. I appreciate faith, not an organized religion. There is a difference. Besides...Jethro Tull absolutely rocked!

  • I used to think this tune was anti-christian. But after reading the lyrics, i realized that is simply lambasting all the church's for what they have turned the word and mass's into.. Very refreshing. please let me know if u think different.

  • after reading your discription i just wanna say fuck that shit was goddamn awesome

  • buena version.

  • A genious.

  • Barre was new at this time , notice the solo is raw and unrefined....

    Love em all!

  • Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull's music spoke to me deeply. I'm grateful to have experienced that era.

I saw them from the top of Shiprock at Red Rocks in '71. There was a riot in the making when the Denver police started cracking skulls and dropping tear gas from helicopters. Jethro Tull defused the situation by playing anyway. The stage still had tear gas that had drifted down from the top parking lot.

google "Red Rocks LOS ANGELES FREE PRESS Jethro Tull"

  • Never liked the crotch grabbing and dumb breath crap while playing the flute. Ruined a classic performance. The clowning sucked to. What a British ego.

  • @TheBluesguy62154 The man was and still is a great showman. There's nothing wrong with what he did here. Great performance.

  • @TheBluesguy62154 Like every other group they were told to do something unique, ham it up, look wild and untamed. No matter what it looks like, group went way beyond blues and other LIMITED musical formats. I thought alot of Ian's antics were oveblown too, but all this groups talent gives them a lifetime pass agaist mockery.

Look to all the bloated excesses of Zep and others of the time. This band is downright genteel.

    True inventiveness!

  • 61 dislikes ?!? wow, there are that many of that kind in this world? they would also dislike the second coming i guess .. hmm, makes you wonder

  • I have been a Jethro Tull fan for years, Thanks alot to my mother who is also a big fan. Don't recall hearing this song until recently. Have yet to hear a song I don't love... Hope one day to maybe see them live myself.. Ian Anderson is simply Amazing!

  • A 9:34 minute long orgasm.

  • My first rock concert was during this tour Jax Fl 1970.

  • Just showed this to my 14and 9 year old. 14 year old boy plays piano and various clarinets, 9 yr old girl plays piano and flute. Funny, but I was just telling my son how FANS want to think entertainers are as HIGH as them when they perform. While in some cases it was true, you can tell. You simply can't play THIS WELL if you are as high as the fans. Been there, done that - and while partying is just fine, the entertainers that know better, party after the show!!! (or not at all)

  • excellent live performance.

  • WOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes...and then there was, and let there be " Ian Anderson"

  • Amazing Amazing Amazing Music!!!

    wonderhull & Marvelous !!!

  • Brings back so many memories of my teenage years, saw them 3 times in the early seventies.......brilliant!

  • @kites29uk takes me back to freshman year at Southern Ill Univ, they stopped off in Carbondale the night before playing in the St Louis and put on a great show, the aqualung tour had just started!!

  • It would be cool to get one long recording non-stop of this entire show, tull at IOW.

  • I'm 48 years young now. I've never seen Tull 'live'. Have loved this group since I was 17. This music is Real ! True lyrics & Ian's acoustic talent is unmatched. When I hear Ian play his flute it just knocks me out ! What an incredible part of my generation. Great Talent all the way. !!!

  • @Jimmyj405 I have seen him NINE times and love every single one of them! HOWEVER...I'm in Texas and he hasn't been here in about 10 years....I'm going through SERIOUS TULL withdrawal....COME BACK, IAN!!! COME BACK!!!!

  • i love jethro.

  • Never in my life did I think that you could be so damn good at a flute

  • Great song!!

  • 4:02 yep , thats jesus alright...

  • Saw them four times.. amazing, and better live..the rock and roll hall of fame keeps passing them over. Makes me wonder about the RARHOF, and where their heads are at. Guess great talent is lost on them. In fact I hope the members of JT tell them to shove their induction, if they are ever considered.

  • One of my favorite musicians of all time is Ian Anderson. He's my inspiration for learning to play the flute in addition to playing guitar, and part of the reason I got into prog rock. I suggest Camel for all lovers of Jethro Tull as they are another great band!

  • That jacket was not long for this world, by the way...

  • My God... this is awesome!

  • What a treat ! Thanks hobeabd !!!

  • Im just geting little jealous on all people, who was able saw them live in 70's cause I wasnt even on this world that time.

  • Wow, just amazing, and (dare I say it?) inspired...

  • Thx for the post....nice performance

  • Freking Fantastico...

1 of the greatest tunez of all time

  • MR... IAN ANDERSON....LOVE YOU BRO!!!

  • Loved his music in the 70's.Unfortunately i was a very young snot nosed kid too young for the concerts.

  • Apparently, 59 people don't know good music when they hear it.

  • @TehHermgirl Well, you know... somebody's gotta be listening to lady gaga & black eyed peas. Of course, give it 30-something years and it'll be "gaga black eyed who?"

  • I love this song. That guitar strum sounds like something out of Zeppelin......so cool and so atmospheric for me.

  • that. was. amazing

  • posted by the enemy of the 1st amendment....I will say that this is a fantastic song and video, humbles me as a musician.

  • I play flute and my goal is to one day play like the "Showman" XD

  • the man flips around that stage like Pan in the woods with his flute - most amazing showman I have EVER seen,,and i saw them ALL..; )

  • so awesome and mesmerizing.

  • I bow down to this god of the flute. This made my whole day. Thanks hobeabd.

  • damn...... that is just great

  • and by genuis i mean genius...i got too excited during that flute solo hahah

  • Musical genuis.

  • thats how your mom plays my plute

  • fantastico

  • Someone asked what drugs they were on: TALENT....only. They didn't belive in after show romps - drugs, booze, women, and even went to bed early. In fact, they were so dull (quoting Ian) that bass player Glenn Cornick left because he wanted to party like normal rock bands. Whatever the truth with Glenn, the band is natually exuberant, and Ian is "Mr. Showman" to a zany edge. They couldn't DO things so complex if they were high. Talent, talent, talent.

  • @WhalesUnite You're mostly right, except for the bit about Glen Cornick quiting. He was actually fired by Ian Anderson for his extracurricular activities. I saw the band in 79' and again around 2005, and the later editions just don't have the fire in their playing like Mark 2.. Should have kept Cornick, Bunker and Evans cause these guys could jam!

  • @WhalesUnite I respect that a whole lot. Zappa did the same thing. But, you totally could play this if you were high (on pot, obviously not LSD, nobody could do that). Mahavishnu Orchestra's bassist smoked before every show and that music is 75% more complex than this. It's sort of irrelevant anyway. Stanley Kubrick said something great about how LSD was of little use to artists.

  • @WhalesUnite

Cornick did leave he was quick out by Anderson. The two simply didnt get along, and back then Ian was not an easy one to deal with....

  • Superb!

  • Fan fucking tast ico

  • This is a great!! Thanks.

As to the band, Ian produces music in his studio when he's not farming salmon, Martin Barre plays in various bands and works on his own projects, Clive played drums on a solo project in the late 90's but he's still around, and Glen Cornick left shortly after this and is playing with a band called Wild Turkey. There have been a total of 23 (at least) members of Tull plus Ian over the years.

  • This is call... ART!. Does anybody knows about the whereabout of the band????.

    Thanks... : ))

  • I like when Ian pretended to sneeze and watch the bass players reaction. I think Ian was on a good toot that day.
