  • Pearce and Vinnie Jones are both tough bastards, lmao

  • The story i remember as one of the England players told it in an interview was Pearce got dropped with a headbutt from Basil Boli, who then legged it back to his position after the corner. Pearce then got up and went to the France right winger who he was marking, pointed to the cut and blood and said "you did this, you come anywhere near me and i'm gonna fucking do ya". The player shit himself and didn;t go anywher enear Pearce for the rest of the game.

  • DOCTER WHO

  • They weren't yellows they were two reds!!!!!

  • first one should have been red imho...

  • WTF? He won the ball both times - EVERYBODY knows Stuart ALWAYS wins the ball! Fucking ref and lino are blind!!! :)

  • Stuart should have gone after the first tackle. However, despite the odd shocking tackle, he goes down in history as perhaps England's best ever left back. He's certainly in the top three alongside Kenny Sansom and Terry Cooper. A real hero and legend!!

  • Are you lads for real???

    Hard as nails? Psycho?

Do you not remember the time England were playing France and one of the French players gave Pearce a headbutt, proper one and all cause his nose was pumping blood after it.... What did Psycho do??? Ill tell you what he done, he browned himself.

The man likes people to think he is hard but he is just a bully and when it was put to him, he shyed away. if i find the vid ill post it.

    Psycho indeed!!

  • It was Basile Boli in '92 I think and it was a sly dig after which Boli legged it up the pitch. What is Pearce gonna do? Run after him, lamp him and get himself sent off.

Find the video, you'll see I am right.

You may not like Pearce's style but he never shyed away.

  • you are right. boli caused pearce to have a massive gash in his cheek after he nutted him. pearce played on like a england hero should...

  • top comment mate

  • they cant boo the refs desicion, the first one could've even been a red

  • two tackles were straights

  • yeah i kinda miss players like pearce (and i'm a city fan). begrudgingly, i'll agree he was hard but fair. as for peter reid "saying something", well just look at him with that spivvy moustache - always reminded me of that dodgy bloke in dad's army trying to sell nicked stuff

  • I thought he got the ball on the 2nd tackle !! :0)

  • I watched him for years from the City Ground Terraces. He was rarely a dirty player. Hard as nails yes but rarely dirty. Reid must have said something to him that wound him up.

  • I watched him for years too and agree. This game was superb entertainment even though Forest lost, the only game I've ever enjoyed when we didn't win!

  • completely wrong intercepta - forest drew 0-0 at filbert street, beat the scum 2-1 in the replay and went on and won the cup that year.

  • Intercepta, i beg to differ about Forest losing, they held out for a 0-0 draw with Brian Rice playing left back, won the replay 2-1, and went on to win the cup. Remember that night at filbert street very well - plenty of arrests after -

  • @intercepta we won it you dumb ass.... especially as this was a league cup game and we won the cup doh!

  • Each tackle was a potential career-ender, and each itself worthy of a red.

As for all these goons on youtube who keep going on about "pride and passion", their stone-age attitude is precisely the reason why England have failed to reach the final of even one major tournament in 43 years! Fools!

  • panzy shorts

  • Tell you what I did notice how no one had a go at Psycho.....I wonder why?

  • I can scarcely believe the imbecility of some of the comments on this page. Stuart Pearce embodies what is so rotten about English football where physical force prevails over skill. Naked aggression doesn't win World Cups, technical ability does. I doubt there are many Brazil or Italy supporters wishing they had players such as Pearce in their side.

  • I'm Brazilian and I gotta tell ya you're right, though Pearce was a relatively respected player around here, specially in the later 80's.

By the way, I'm curious: without Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge, who's gonna solve the English Team's left-back issue? Who's the supporters' favourite man for the position? Is there a chance Capello improvises Gareth Barry?

  • nowadays the first one would of been a red not a yellow, and i bet ya that instead of carrying on with the game, the players nowa days would be down almost in tears! faggots these days haha.

  • true

  • Short shorts...

  • i just love how he tries to get Reid to stand up on the second tackle, trying to convince the ref (as well as himself) that the tackle wasn't that bad.

  • Psycho?- You said what ?

    Psycho?- You said what ?

    Psycho?- You said what ?

    Psycho Break his legs

A touch of evil by Cpt Sensible

  • That's how you tell the men from the boys!

Drogba would still be on the floor now!

Psycho, what a player, if only the passion was in ANY of the England players...

  • what a tackle...

  • thats how football should be played!!

  • Well, would you want to be the one to show Psycho the red card? Not for all the whiskey in Ireland........

  • The first is a red by todays standards - but those standards are poor aren't they?

Remember all the Julian Dicks', Chopper Harris', Norman Hunters, Terry Hurlocks and Pat Van Den Hauwes - that was when the terraces could fall in love with a player, as much for his passion and his quality. You don't get that anymore do you?

    Psycho! Psycho! Psycho!

  • aye, football was a bit more of a man's sport back in that day... it's softer now-a-dayz... but ya can't blame the players or the ref.. FIFA has asked refs to be more harsh and that's what they've done...

  • Mr. Psycho

  • in the first foul hi has to show the red card

  • 11 psycho pearce on the field.. an england wins world cup...real english heart

  • It is incredible he only got a yellow card for the first one. He got a straigt red for the second one though.

  • WHAT A TACKLE

  • What a hero

  • A Stuart Pearce tackle 20 years ago would probably earn him a prison sentence in today's non-contact version of football! Arguably Forest's best player of all time.

  • could easily have been sent off for the first one alone

  • the ref shows the red card to the crowd instead

  • robd69: I know the tackle i was there!! it was fantastic!! i have it on video somewhere. mcminn goes for a header from a standing start, pearce steams in at last moment knocks mccminn up in the air, ball drops between them and pearce volly's big ted before he hits the ground, wins the ball then walks over him on his way past. absolute classic what a man!!! You reds!!!

  • stuart pearce ...thats my boy!!!!

  • Pearce definitely had it out for poor Reidy!

  • Ok, only approved comments from now. I don't want a Forest - Leicester keyboard war here.

  • i bet psycho was showered with abuse, not to mention spit from the main stand when going to the tunnel! :) i miss filbo.

  • "Controversial start to the second half" - in what way? If he didn't deserve to be sent off for that, what would he have to do?!

  • Never mind the tackles. Have you seen how tight the shorts are!!!

  • Psycho the best left back

  • I wondered why viewings for this had gone sky-high and then I found it was linked from the Guardian You Tube round up page :-)

Have another classic Psycho 'tackle' on Ted McMinn that I'll capture and get uploaded when I get time, possibly get him going right through McMahon at Anfield too.

  • Brutal tackles from Psycho!

  • What a legend Pearce was.
