  • try logging in as "admin" Instead of administrator.

  • "windows makes it easier than ever sharing files" ....all BS. Anyone can hack into any windows that is not his, and no one can even share anything at all between his own network (if it can even be called a network d--m it)

Now that is security and peace of mind.... no thx to windows. But thx to windows, reading all the comments here down all the way to the very first, we all look like idiots.

    Peace

  • thank that helpful

  • i was not able to access XP from Vista until i shared a folder on XP! once i did that, i did not have to use the login name and password.

  • ty man

  • the Local Users and Groups can be added as a snap-in (go to Computer Management > File > add/remove snapin)

    BUT not in Vista Home!

Home makes you manage users via Control Panel / User Accounts

I read somewhere that windows does not even share those files

So what I do? Is there something in the registry that I can change???

thanks to anyone that replys to this I've been racking my brain trying to figure something out

  • My vista laptop can communicate to my XP desktop, but the XP desktop cannot communicate back. It must be some sort of firewall on my Vista.

  • same here

  • I can't even get XP and Vista to ping each other...

  • THANKS MEYN

  • Thanks, helped alot!

If you (like me) have files on your XP you want to copy to your Vista and not the other way around. You can still use this video to access your Vistas Public folder from your XP and put the files there.

  • I think it would be helpful to explain the connection...are the files floating in space between machines?

  • ok how is this working when my files are on the xp not the vista

  • thank you so much!! my friend and i really had a hard time sharing files!!

  • Good work thank you

  • Home Vista doesn't not have Local Users and Groups under Management. Can only be access through cmd "net". But thats far as I know....now what? lol

  • holy bunt cake its that simple i love u talking man

  • wtf gigafide? no offense, but ur video doesn't help me at all. my xp machine can easily access the vista machine, but the vista machine is a bitch to access the xp machine.

  • i found the solution to my problem! the only thing holding back vista to access xp was norton 360 v3.0s smart firewall. now my sis with her vista laptop will b able to print stuff from her laptop.

  • Niiiice.. works 4 me!

  • well it appears all I had to do was change my file settings under network and sharing.

all I had to do was change "password protected sharing" to off.

and now Xp is accessing my public folder.

  • gigafide, you need to do more homework or cover the entire process with all other variables.

because your method def doesn't look/work anything like that for me.

for one, when I type the ip address in it opens my browser and trys to connect to a website.

second, there is no user accounts under manage in XP pro.

also I do not get the log in popup you speak of when I try to open the public folder via xp in vista. it just says you do not have permission to access this document.

  • I need to correct something, there is no user accounts under manage in vista for me.

  • maybe you are a special kid? just putting it out there!

  • that helped. thank you. do you need to be in the same workgroup too or does that not matter if you are on the same wireless hub?

  • hey dude i dont have,....... the local sue option.. please help me...

  • I don't have the local users option either.

  • yea man i duno y.. but i gt it done....... ill upload 1 for u.. stay in touch.. ok..... suscribe if u need to or wateva... ok .. it will be on in a few dayzz

  • same here

  • thankss allot man u guyzz rockk.... !!

  • thanks a lot !

  • something wierd is going on. i could already access my vista stuff using xp, but i can't access my xp stuff using vista. HELP ME

  • There are no local users and goups in my manage ;/ what should i do then?

  • Same here!

  • I'm in the same position.

  • Thanks! Working on this for hours and when i just search on this prob on youtube i got it right in 2 min

  • great vid. u sounded like your rapping at first... :D like stan by eminem.

  • wtf like stan

  • What If I can't move it to the "public" folder? Is that the only way? Or can I do with a Junction?

  • see, now I have the opposite problem you have. my XP machine can access the Vista machine, but the Vista machine keeps requiring a password, so I'm stuck.

  • The entry users and groups doesn't exist on my Vista. What should I do?

  • I'd like to add that if you have the classic start menu you need to go to my computer and right click --> "Computer" in the folders display in the left bottom of the window then select -->add a network location.

    great tip, thanks

  • wow. u the best teacher ever.

  • yeah but only i dont have that option ,,new user,, plz help

  • when i type in my xp IP address on my vista machine i get a login requirement, could someone help

  • doesnt work for me :( please help

  • I want to thank you for your video it's pretty helpful. I just want to add that you don't have to go through all those steps when your XP pc can't log on to Vista. Its simple, u just have to enter your log name and your password. If you dont have a user account on vista create one and then use the password and username when u try to log in from xp to vista

  • hey i'm not a computer savvy person and i would like to know how to enable file sharing on my windows xp computer. i already have file sharing enabled on my vista computer. plz help

  • Hello :) nice vedio

the same problem with vista pc.you mention in the comment to install hotfix to share vista files with xp. how can i install hotfix.iam a new to vista please help me

  • dude i have literally spent an hour trying to figure this out... wish i saw your video first... THANKS

  • hey for yall who cannot find the local users and groups....what ive noticed is when you create the new user like he says in the video...its pretty much pointless...just use the username/pw u use to log onto your vista...like if you see when he clicks users...you see his admin and guest accounts...try using them in the username pw when trying to access your vista files from your xp...but try changing your workgroups to match each other and it shouldnt ask for username/pw...try it...lmk

  • On the vista machine, local users and groups dosent show up. So i cant make a local account. What should i do?

  • ARe all IP addresses the same or are they differnet. ANd how do we find out the IP ID?

  • They are different..open the command prompt and type in ipconfig and it will show you your ip.

  • 192.168.1.X is basic. you can access like any computer in your network with that... lol

    if they have sharing on

  • on my vista machine, local users and groups doesnt show up?

  • Same for me. Vista is shit. I hate it.

  • Did you try typing in \\(xp ip) into the address bar? Lmk if you need more help..I'm pretty sure we could figure it out =P

  • Same - for .... sake this is so annoyin

  • Thank you - very helpful info

  • All I did was change both of my computers workgroup's to WORKGROUP and everything worked for me.

  • I don't have the Local users and groups option, what should be done?

  • ok this is to the people who is having trouble accessing files on your vista from your xp...you don't have to do all that add user stuff in the video..and some people aren't even getting the login screen as I've seen in the comments. Go to network and sharing center on your vista, and make sure network discovery is on, file sharing, and make sure password protected sharing is OFF...also make sure your workgroups are the same on both computers...message me if you need further help

  • How do I change the workgroup name on vista? Now I can access my Vista laptop from my xp desktop but not the other way round, I type the desktop's ip address on vista and it just says check your spelling it works when I do it on the xp one, please help, what am I doing wrong, I do insert the "\\" at the beggining. Thanks in advance

  • On vista to change it, it should be somewhere in the my computer properties...make sure that the workgroups match or I don't think the vista will let you in..but I'm not sure...change the workgroup so they match..if you have problems send me a message.

  • Windows XP Home and Windows Vista Home doesn't have the Local Users and Groups function located in MMC/Computer Management.

  • how do you get the local users and group logo?

all i have on mine is the share files folder.

  • Yep! It worked fine here! Thanks Tinkernut!

  • n ot working

  • hey guys if u wana acess ur file on xp from ur vista desktop or laptop go to run on vista n type this for example \\genius\music genius is da comp name n music is da file dats being shared hope it work

  • thanks man...:)

  • I don't have the "Local Users and Groups" tab; what do I do?

  • same here

  • i dont have it either

  • me too.. Also typing in IP addresses for me doesn't have the same effect as it does in the video. It just opens up my browser with a cannot be displayed message

  • For me it didn't come up with a logon screen, it just said that it didn't have permission. I have no idea how to give the xp machine permission.

  • I have a password on start up and I shared the folder with all my items in it and I just put in the log in Info (start up) and It works fine.

  • I have the same problem as

    hyChrisL7

no local users option, now what can i do?

  • thanx to this video its very usefull. nice job

  • its much better to use a pandrive i think

  • intitle:phpMyAdmin "Welcome to phpMyAdmin ***" "running on * as root@*"

  • I don't have the "Local Users and Groups" tab; what do I do?

  • Did you try to put in your username and password? because sometimes windows vista can be hard to access because it's asking for a logon, or you can try for name admin and for password use password, dunno if it works.... =\

  • all you need to do is either upgrade xp to service pack 3(sp3) or install a hotfix from microsoft that will allow vista and xp to share files and printers normally. the hotfix installs on the computer with xp. you dont need to do all this, its very easy to fix.

  • since you cannot post url's in comments on youtube you can message me for the links to the xp sp3 or the xp hotfix, or both.

  • This video is good but I don't have Vista.

  • I do not have a "Local Users and Groups". I am running Windows Vista Home edition. Is it the same as XP, where the group policy editor feature was only available in pro?
